European Trading Desk - Student Support Analyst Internship
Base Location: Perth or Edinburgh (with a requirement to be based in the office 2-3 days per week)
Salary: Circa £23,422 per annum (pro-rata) + shift allowance + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

About the Role
We are looking to recruit for an entry level role within our Front Office which would allow a full-time student looking for a career path within Energy Trading the opportunity to learn about SSE's trading arm and the markets we trade in a practical way. We are looking for hard working, dynamic thinking individuals who have strong analytical skills to provide support to our trading teams predominantly during evenings and weekends, with the potential to join during the weekdays as time allows.
The role would work alongside our European physical operations desk who are optimising our asset portfolio as well as trading real time gas and electricity from the day ahead stage until delivery 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.
We would be looking for you to learn our asset portfolio and study the energy market to provide analysis to our traders showing opportunities for creating value within markets we trade. Alongside this we will train you to manage some of our operational portfolio and submit nominations.
This is an incredible opportunity to work in a front office trading environment, to learn electricity and gas markets and understand a large asset portfolio. The EMC, which supports our business by managing real time energy balances and market exposures from SSE's assets and customers and short-term trading teams are at the forefront of the green energy transition.
Your key accountabilities will include:
- As part of a team, you will look to continually evaluate the changing energy markets and develop short term strategies to manage the complexities of our portfolio.
- You will work on pieces of analysis that study the markets we trade as well as the global energy markets to show opportunities for trading value creation.
- You will work alongside our operations, shift and short-term traders to grasp energy market principals and develop a strong market understanding to support your analysis.
- You will assist the European EMC Shift traders to optimise the energy portfolio and submit relevant nominations.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have;
- You will be a full or part time student - undergraduate.
- Strong numerical, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Great communication / teamworking skills and a strong work ethic.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Advanced Excel.
- Coding skills advantageous: eg DAX, Python etc.
