Our opportunity

A vacancy has arisen for an experienced Systems Engineer with the Spearhead project, you will primarily help to introduce new capabilities for an operational system using a novel, dynamic and fast-paced approach. This is an exciting opportunity in an area of the business currently undergoing rapid and sustained growth, both in domestic and export areas.

The individual is expected to be capable to take on the role of Systems Engineer for parts, or the whole, of a Sonar Design. This will entail acting as a technical leader for a capability integration team reporting to the Solution Engineering Manager & Project Design Authority.

Day to day you will:

• Work with solution architects to analyse proposed capabilities against declared Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and reporting outcomes.
• Create design artefacts to support the integration of capability sub systems into S2087 domain in accordance with Thales process.
• Create assurance artefacts, in accordance with Thales and customer processes, in preparation for technology demonstrations on land and sea going platforms.
• Manage requirements analysis activities to track the performance of capability candidates against customer specified metrics.
• Reviews the technical risks and opportunities and the related mitigation plans throughout the bid or project.
• System definition activities – requirements definition, functional and physical definitions
• Preparation and presentation of system level design reviews
• Monitoring of emerging detailed design within various implementation teams – acoustic, hardware, mechanical, software etc.
• Ensure, with the support of Specialty Engineering experts & Safety/HSE stakeholders that Solution design takes into account contract requirements and applicable legislation, rules & regulations, including product safety & security and Environmental/HSE requirements & standards, and that related certification activities are performed correctly.
• IVVQ planning and execution, including platform trials from time-to-time
• Requirements sell-off and contract acceptance with customer
• Customer and end-user liaison
• Analysis of system performance
• Alignment of Product vs Project - Contribute to business strategy and product development as required.
• Sound understanding of the development lifecycle and lifecycle products.

Software Function Lead- Military

We are currently looking for a Software Function Leader to join Thales UK Avionics Division based in Crawley, United Kingdom.

As a Software Function Leader you will have the opportunity to lead software delivery teams across a range of projects, operating systems and development environments.

Primary Purpose of Role

The Digital Platform team provides the software infrastructure (runtime software) to all the sonar systems that Thales Underwater Systems deploy. These sonar systems cover navies worldwide, but we have an especially strong relationship with the UK Royal Navy.

This position is a challenging and rewarding one within a dynamic and continually improving manufacturing environment. Our opportunity

We are seeking a forward-thinking Head of Sub-Contract Management. Reporting to the Procurement Director in this leadership role, you will lead and support the business working with our suppliers in under water systems both domestically and internationally.

• Thorough understanding of engineering drawings, including geometrical tolerancing to BS8888.

• Fully competent with the use of inspection equipment.

• Familiar with working within an ISO9001 environment and maintaining system procedures.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Engineering Manager within Thales Optronics and Missile Electronics (OME). The successful candidate will initially undertake the role of an Engineering Manager in the Sea business.

This role will be on one of the largest development and production projects within OME. This role will be part of a large delivery team focussed on specific development and support projects within the Sea business.

As an Engineering Manager you will work in collaboration with the overall Programme Director, the Programme Managers, the Engineering Delivery Lead, the Head of Engineering Delivery and the wider engineering team to ensure delivery of the engineering development projects.

In this role you will be responsible for:

• leading high performing, multi-discipline engineering teams to generate engineering solutions that meet the Customer needs
• the definition of the engineering delivery strategy and resource profile based on the engineering estimates to ensure the delivery of the project
• managing the interfaces with the overall delivery strategy for the wider programme
• work with the Programme Manager to define the organisation and work breakdown required to deliver to the Customer needs
• defining the engineering team’s work packages in terms of resources required, budgets assigned to each task, risks and assumptions on these and the timescales to deliver within
• the planning and prioritisation of activities required to deliver the solution to the contract schedule, costs and quality
• day to day management of the engineering team’s activities ensuring proactive management of issues, opportunities and risks
• managing and reporting of the engineering efficiency for the project
• the identification of re-use opportunities across the project
• act as the People Manager for the engineering team on the project and provide feedback into the people manager reviews with the functional discipline leads

The successful candidate will have a strong background in engineering with experience in successfully defining and leading the delivery of multi-disciplinary engineering projects. They will be highly customer focused with excellent communication skills and have the ability to work in a fast moving environment with multiple parallel objectives. Knowledge and experience of naval products would be beneficial to this role.

• Escalating security issues directly to the Site Security Manager in the first instance, ensuring coms to and from site are controlled.

• Complete Protective Security Advisory Visits (PSAV) provide Site Security Manager with reports clearly defining outcomes and recommendations, adding recommendations to the Forward Action Plan (FAP)

• Implementing policies and processes in accordance with corporate governance in relation to security as defined in Chorus referential system

• Manage and Maintaining the site security risk register, Secure document remediation plan, Monthly LSC KPI’s and FAP

• Providing advice to, PSO’s, IAOs and employees on security matters including Security Grading Guides (SGG) incoming and flow down SAL’s and the F1686 process

• Communicate information management and security awareness campaigns to all employees and contracted staff.

• Attend site meetings and report to Site Security Manager outcomes and requirements

• Promote awareness of the latest HMG and company security requirements and implementation as necessary

• Support site security and CSO teams with routine security office administrative activities, to ensure continuing compliance with HMG, MoD and Thales UK policies.

• Manage and Maintain RFV,/ IVCO process, work with Mitie to ensure visitors to RED areas are appropriately identified and cleared, produce KPI and metrics

• To act as Crypto Custodian/Alternate, complete assurance reviews and audits

• Run and maintain the Sites security internal assurance regime.

• Matrix line management responsibility.

About you

Ideally, you’ll:

• Be able to demonstrate relevant experience working in a similar security related role/environment OR have an interest in developing your career in this area

• Have knowledge and understanding of List X(FSC) and the UK MoD cryptographic procedures.

• Experience working as a Crypto Custodian/Alternate or possess equivalent certification/qualification in Security.

• Possess good organisational, communication, presentation and report writing skill

System Architecture - UWS - Under Water Systems

Primary Purpose of the Role:

To develop and implement solution architectures for maritime systems (including sonar and combat management systems). To design systems to meet the project needs, optimising the design through trade-offs to maximise customer and Thales value. • Can manage a complex project through a defined design process and is able to tailor CHORUS2 to project needs.

• Can define and use metrics as part of Quality assurance & control to change and re-model a System Engineering process.

• Working knowledge of project plans.

• Has knowledge of Engineering Safety Management in the context of architectural design

• A sound understanding of naval system architectures

Experience:

• The Solution Architect is the technical focal point for the solution design and framework, and must be able to resolve all issues, problems, questions and conflicts in the entire system. This requires frequent handling of new and unusual issues therefore a proven record of working in combat systems is required.

• Experience of collaborative working with cross-industry/customer teams, desirable for this to be multi-national.

• Sound knowledge of combat systems deployed in UK maritime fleet, with detailed knowledge of at least one combat system equipment.

• The post holder should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate at all levels in the spoken and written word. A good outward appearance, self-motivation and the ability to work under pressure are vital.

• The success of the Systems Engineering job family relies on the interaction of its engineers at all levels, therefore evidence of team working is required.
