Responsibilities:

• Shadowing/supporting Operating Technicians

• Monitoring process conditions, equipment and control systems.
• Performing tasks under the direct supervision/direction of an experienced operator.
• Participating in troubleshooting unit upsets and abnormalities.
• Witnessing the work permit system, learn about Environmental, Health & Safety systems as well as emergency preparedness.

As a Fleet Technician I, you can expect to:

• Inspect equipment brought to shop for structural integrity and other potential safety and maintenance problems.

• Conduct routine and annual inspections and performs preventive maintenance on all vehicles

• Participates in mandatory snow removal and emergency operations

• Repair or replaces worn parts not requiring major mechanical work. Identifies and reports to supervisor any major problems requiring mechanical attention

• Inspect primary and auxiliary operating systems for loose and worn parts, hydraulic systems for faulty cylinders, hoses, or fittings, and air systems. Inspect equipment for proper fluid levels, adds fluid as necessary, and replaces filters.

• Lubricate auxiliary attachments, suspensions, moving parts, and wearing surfaces on equipment. Replace air compressor filters and air lines. Remove, repairs, and replaces wheels and tires on equipment

• Respond to emergency road service on tires, tubes, and wheels of specialized and heavy-duty automotive equipment, utilizing hydraulic jacks and lifts

• Remove and replaces sealed beam lighting units, light bulbs, light bars, and fuses. Operate all types of vehicles and equipment to servicing and storage areas. Wash and steam clean equipment and cleans work area

• Assist higher level technicians on routine to complex shop duties and repair. Observe all common safety practices

• Any one position may not include all the duties listed. However, the allocation of positions will be determined by the amount of time spent in performing the essential duties listed above

About You

What You’ll Bring

We are looking for a candidate with some or all the following skills and experience:

• An Associate Degree (or Trade School Certification) in automotive maintenance or similar a plus

• 1-2 Years of full-time experience in an Automotive or Heavy Truck repair within a maintenance shop

• 1-3 ASE certifications in Automotive or Medium duty/Heavy Truck a plus

• Basic electrical diagnostics and understanding of battery, starting, and charging systems

• Basic understanding of resetting vehicle maintenance service reminders including TPMS sensors

Required Minimum Qualifications

• Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.

• Experience Requirement: One (1) year of experience in the maintenance of gasoline, diesel, and/or alternative/hybrid powered equipment or one year of experience in the repair of tires, tubes, wheels, hydraulic brakes, air brakes, and/or parking brake systems in an automotive repair shop or fleet department.

• Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

• License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.

• Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements by the end of probation.

Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.

[What you will be working on]

• Conduct research on various design solutions for NL Building infrastructural projects such as NL L1 Place Making, L5 Arts Collection Library, ad hoc fitting out works for offices and LKCRL gantries activation; which will commence in early 2024 and are to be completed before end 2024.
• To pitch ideas/proposals to relevant stakeholder, write minutes, document process and approvals as well as monitor timeline.
• To manage contractors for ongoing projects to ensure that requirements are being executed as per expectations.
• Other administrative support for the above projects and weekly project updates for Project & Space Management Department.

Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

To assist in servicing and supporting manufacturing operations in the form of maximizing production output via expedient machine repair, procurement of repair parts, preventive maintenance, safety and maintaining building systems.

SCHEDULE: M-F, 1st shift with the potential to grow into full- time employment working on a 2-2-3 12-hour rotating shift schedule.

COMPENSATION: $20/hour

DUTIES:

• Work safely and maintaining a safe work environment; following all plant and department specific safety rules, procedures, policies and programs;
• Attend required training; identify and report hazards; wearing all required personal protective equipment for all plant, department, and task specific requirements; and is accountable for self as well as co-workers safety.
• Assist in performing necessary repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment and facility.
• Creates and understands the work order process using SAP.
• Problem solves issues concerning equipment operation and manufacturing processes where these relate to maximizing output.
• Involvement in developmental project work including working with R&D, manufacturing and outside equipment and parts vendors.
• Functions as part of the technical resources for the on-site staff.
• Participates in and supports World Class Operations Management (WCOM) teams.
• Performs other projects/duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Good communication skills – written, verbal and interpersonal
• Experience with shop tools.
• Basic understanding of Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems.
• Must be able to read electrical schematics and Ladder logic diagrams.
• Preferred ability to troubleshoot PLC’s. (Allen Bradley 500 and 5000 software)
• Must be able to assist with wiring both the control and high power for Industrial machinery.

WHAT WE WANT FROM YOU:

• Enrolled or completion of the two-year Electro-Mechanical degree or similar major/applicable experience

RESPONSIBILITY:

• Responsibility for Assets and Operations.  This position has a shared responsibility for major assets in the form of manufacturing and building equipment and maintenance shop tools and equipment.  A considerable impact can be made on equipment uptime, the quality of our products, equipment, and employment safety, minimizing the dependency of outside contractors.
• Responsibility for methods and Procedures.  This position has a responsibility to communicate the status of down equipment repairs and priorities.  Responsibilities also include upgrading and improving PM tasks and schedules to maximize PM effectiveness and efficiency.
• Frequent contact with office staff, supervisors, production employees, engineering and other maintenance personnel.

The Relay Construction and Maintenance department executes the design packages developed by the Transmission Engineering department for the construction of substation and transmission facilities throughout the Duke Energy service area.

Program Internship Work Location for 2024: Potential opportunities at locations across our footprint; North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Indiana, and Ohio

This department is also responsible for:

• Ensuring grid reliability by executing the day-to-day operations
• Maintaining the protective relays and SCADA control systems in compliance with state and federal regulations
• Relay Technician Interns will work alongside Journeymen and Apprentice level Relay Technicians to get exposed to the technical skills and safety focused work behaviors necessary to be proficient in this profession

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develops understanding of the fundamentals of relaying, protective schemes, controls, alarms, distribution SCADA, communications

• Develops basic isolation procedure writing

• Develops understanding of how to utilize print reading, red mark process

• Develops understanding of RTS and its use

• Develops understanding of NERC compliance and importance for accurate data and timely completion

• Develops basic trouble shooting skills

• Develops the ability to think methodically and arrange activities in logical order

• Develops basic understanding of CT and VT circuits 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Currently enrolled and pursuing EITHER a TWO-YEAR or FOUR-YEAR degree in ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY or an ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY related major

• At least 18 years of age prior to beginning employment with Duke Energy

• Cumulative GPA of at least 2.75

• Valid driver’s license

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

• Students must have completed 12 credit hours with specific courses: Introduction to Electrical Utilities, Electrical Utility Print Reading, Physics/Trig for Relay Technicians, Introduction to CAD

• Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills

• Demonstrates ability to provide the quantity and quality of work necessary to reach an accomplishment

• Demonstrated leadership qualities through effective decision making

• Works effectively with others from diverse backgrounds to achieve a common goal

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Onsite Mobility Classification – Work will be performed at a company facility

• Student is required to complete a minimum of 20 hours of work per week on site at various work locations but can complete a maximum of 40 hours of work per week

• Depending on work location, may be required to meet requirements for unescorted access/security clearance
