The role of the Advanced Practitioner is as a non-medical practitioner, working as part of the Clinical Haematology team, under the supervision of a Consultant Haematologist.

The post holder will provide clinical expertise and advice for haematology oncology chemotherapy patients. They will demonstrate a sound understanding of the issues related to the identification, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of non-malignant and malignant haematological conditions and pre and post chemotherapy patients. Be involved in consultant clinics and assist in pre chemotherapy assessments and planning, and emergency attendance avoidance. They will have a key role within the MDT acting as a liaison between all members of the multi-disciplinary team, to allow for seamless and efficient care.

They will monitor and improve standards of care through supervision of practice, clinical audit, evidence-based practice, teaching and supporting professional colleagues and the provision of skilled professional leadership. They will participate in clinical governance within the service by undertaking audit and research as part of the MDT.

Under the direction of a Consultant Haematologist and following a programme of training and competency assessment the Advanced Practitioner will;
• Provide advanced levels of clinical practice, knowledge and skills in Haematology
• Undertake Pre-chemotherapy assessment and physical examination as directed by the Haematology team
• Assess the need for and order investigations within scope of practice
• They will have a clear understanding of their boundaries and know when to involve the Consultant Haematologist
• Manage medications including assessment, review and non-medical prescribing where appropriate and in accordance with legislation.
• Manage own caseload with decision-making responsibilities e.g. fitness for treatment
• Undertake the process of gaining informed consent
• Prepare accurate and concise reports both verbally and
• Some technical and invasive procedures according to their scope of practice g. bone marrow biopsies
• Facilitating the continuity of care of patients
• Arranging appropriate pre and post chemotherapy investigations as part of the multidisciplinary team
• Liaising with accident and emergency for haematology emergencies and arrange admissions if required to maintain coherent service provision
• Providing ACP-led medication and review clinics

Leading on the preparation of learning environments including layout, setting up equipment and learning aids. Coaching of new staff on all systems in preparation of training delivery. Designing of training databases to reflect live environments conducive to training. Develop training courses to accommodate differing skill levels and learning styles. Set up/upgrade of user accounts after training delivery, conforming to correct levels of role based access. Undergo annual appraisal and be responsible for evaluating the currency and sufficiency of own knowledge and practice against KSF outlines. Agree and develop personal development plans and maintain a PDP to provide evidence of development and performance against KSF outlines. Be responsible for own personal educational and experiential learning, keeping up to date with changes in local and national trends and policies, undertaking training as required for the development of the post. Participate in the induction/training of new Junior Doctors as part of the induction process. Share information relating to own are of work within the team, actively promote and support the sharing of knowledge and skills and the professional development of those engaged in administrating educational delivery.

1.Ensure the safe removal of clinical waste and contaminated items including blood products. 2.Send equipment for repair with appropriate documentation 3.Undertake daily checks of Endoscopy equipment and report any faults to relevant dept or person 4.Taking charge in absence of more senior staff 5.Prepare and arrange transportation of equipment to other hospitals 6.Organise loan equipment 7.Ensure equipment is available prior to start of list 8.Check equipment into dept from external companies/hospitals 9.Perform Intra Venous cannulation and venepuncture
