About the Role

Sutton Council is seeking a candidate to fill the role of Senior Finance Officer in its shared finance service with Kingston Council. Whilst this role sits within the shared service, its focus is on Sutton Council only.
The role will focus its support on the capital programme and the council's revenue and capital budget setting processes. The successful candidate will take responsibility for:

Delivering support to budget managers to support core financial processes and activities, including planning and budgets, financial management and monitoring, and year end processes
Supporting the Strategic Capital Finance Business Partner to maintain accurate and useful capital working papers that safeguard financial resources and provide open, transparent governance over capital budgets
Preparing journals, virements and reserve movements
Assisting the Strategic Corporate Finance Business Partner in the completion of statutory returns or ad hoc requests for information.

About Us

This role is part of the Financial Planning and Business Partnering team that supports Sutton Council only, within the shared finance service. The team has 17 positions that combine to deliver revenue and capital financial planning and business partnering services.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

Part or fully qualified in relevant professional qualification (e.g. CIPFA, CIMA, AAT etc) or demonstrable equivalent experience of operating at that level
Capability to use digital tools and software to deliver effective finance support
Experience of working in a customer-focused environment and achieving successful outcomes in the delivery of services that meet customer needs
Strong numerical and analytical skills with the ability to provide detailed and accurate information at pace with little oversight
Strong communication skills, verbally and in writing, with the ability to discuss, analyse and present finance concepts and processes in a range of ways
It is desirable that candidates will have an understanding of capital finance.

This role sits within the Strategy and Delivery Strategic Business Unit (SBU) of NHIS. The main objective of the Strategy and Delivery SBU is the delivery of Digital Transformation, project support and business change aligned to local and National digital Strategies. We support digital transformation on all levels, from end-to-end delivery of new digital systems, processes, and functionality as well as routine upgrades and training on existing digital systems, we aim to ensure the continuation of normal service with minimal business impact to our customers. Our vision is to help transform care by being an integrated provider of ICT services and support, delivering a high-quality professional service that links strategy, innovation and technology for our local Health and Social care community. We aim to bring to life the local ICS ambitions of a joined-up health and social care economy that is not constrained by boundaries, a landscape where systems are integrated, allowing professionals to make fully informed choices within a digitally enabled culture that is efficient, safe, and secure.

The Digital Business Team’s main remit is to foster the relationship between the Nottinghamshire Health Informatics Service (NHIS) and its existing customer base, ensuring that the products and services provided, along with the associated performance is efficient, continues to remain effective and meeting the needs of the client organisations.

As a Senior Finance Business Partner, you will oversee the financial management for a number of Academy Hubs and support other Orchard Hill College Academy Trust ‘family’ financial management and strategic needs as required. You will be the key finance lead for the schools, seeking to add value to the development plans and any key financial changes that will impact the pupils and school. You will involved in the decision making process of all major projects and opportunities.

Requirements:

• Proven experience in a similar role, preferably within the education or public sector.
• Demonstrable knowledge of financial management, budget planning, analysis and reporting.
