Summary of the role
The Business Development Manager role leads on the development of collaborations with industry, organisations and government partners within the BioPharma sector. The post holder will support the Sector Head to deliver opportunities for partnership development and impact in line with Exeter Innovation’s Business Engagement Strategy and the University’s Strategy 2030.
The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities to deliver in the role:
Identify, develop and manage opportunities for income generation from internal and external sources towards the institutional target of £200m in 2030, limiting exposure to risk and maximizing benefits to the University.
Develop detailed market research and insights using specialised data bases, analysis of market trends, government strategy and by networking with external advisors, specialists, consultants, potential customers and competitors.
Develop sustainable partnerships with new and established partners with a view to these partners collaborating and/or funding projects with academics across the research and commercial education portfolios.
Management of up to 7 people. May be responsible for supervising associated resources that form part of flexible, cross-university sectoral teams.
Provide the Exeter Innovation interface with one or more Faculty departments. Work closely with Department Directors of Business Engagement and to develop and deliver the BEI strategy and income targets embedded within Faculty plans.
Undertake the role of relationship manager for one or more Strategic Partners, working with the Corporate Partnership team. In addition, identify and liaise with internal and external sector facing networks and organisations
Support a portfolio of Impact Case Studies aligned to sector specialism, through working closely with the academic leads and Research Services.
Advise and lead on the development of applications for economic development, knowledge exchange research and innovation and commercial education; working with colleagues in Exeter Innovation and other Professional Services.
Development of complex costings (and pricing where appropriate) of projects ranging from £10k - £3MM+ using the systems and resources available in the Division.
