This Clinical Fellow post is suitable for doctors who wish to pursue a career in Paediatric Surgery. The post is suitable for surgeons who have completed their Core Surgical Training and are looking for experience in Paediatric Surgery. The post is based at the Queens Medical Centre campus of the Nottingham University Hospital with responsibility for the care of in-patients, out-patients and emergencies admitted during day time hours and when on-call. Out of hours the post holder will work on the SpR rota including prospective cover.

Paediatric Surgery & Urology is based at the Queens Medical Centre and comprises of eleven Consultants Surgeons (7 General Paediatric Surgeons and 4 Paediatric Urologists) supporting general and tertiary paediatric surgical and urological services in addition to providing local outreach services. All paediatric surgical emergencies are admitted to the QMC usually via the Paediatric Emergency Department. The surgical wards comprise of D34, D35 and E17 in addition to jointly managed patients on PICU and the Neonatal Unit. Main Theatres are located on C Floor and have dedicated afternoon emergency lists as well as access to the Childrens Day Case Unit on B Floor.

The Nottingham Children's Hospital is situated in East Block on D and E floors with 2 Outpatient Departments on B Floor and comprises. Eight wards - 121 beds including critical care. An Oncology Day Case Unit with Anaesthetic facilities. A Short Stay Unit for observation of the acutely ill child. A large hospital school. An Academic Division of Child Health (University of Nottingham School of Human Development). Neonatal Units on both City and QMC campus. A separate Children's Emergency Department.Paediatric Urology service is supported by four urology nurse specialists and seven paediatric nephrologists.

There will be exposure to all aspects of Paediatric Surgery which will include ward rounds, theatres and outpatients. The post holder will work at Specialty Registrar level. The post provides the opportunity for hands on operative experience working with highly experienced Consultant Surgeons

Non Clinical Training Responsibilities

In addition it would be expected that the post holder would gain transferrable skills in leadership, management, guideline development, clinical governance, research and gain an understanding of service development

This post allows the clinical fellow to gain a broad experience in the sub-specialist training in Paediatric Neurosciences within a department providing a comprehensive, tertiary paediatric neurology service.
Nottingham Children’s Hospital. It is designed for a candidate who is post CCT in paediatrics and is planning a career in paediatric neurology at consultant level.

The post provides in-patient and outpatient experience in a busy tertiary centre. There are close working relationships with the Departments of Neuroradiology, Neurophysiology, Neurosurgery and Paediatric Intensive Care. To assist with raising the profile of safeguarding children and adults, domestic abuse, childrens act 1989/2004 and Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018. The Offender Health Care Group is one of the largest and most successful providers of prison healthcare in the UK. The Care Group provide physical, mental health and substance misuse healthcare services in prisons across the East Midlands, Lincolnshire & Leicestershire. Cleaning Service Duties Ensure a timely and accurate response to all cleaning requests. Work in partnership with the Ward Team, Facilities Team Leader/Assistant Facilities Manager. Assist in monitoring and maintaining cleaning standards and infection control practices in the department as appropriate. Maintain the integrity and reputation of the department by effective communication and harmonious attitudes with patients, staff and visitors. Ensure patient dignity and privacy is respected at all times and report where you feel this has been breached. Safe use of cleaning equipment/assemble and dismantle cleaning equipment; order stock. Use effective and efficient cleansing/decontamination techniques across a range of skills. Suction clean/dry mop floors, spot clean floors and remove spillages. High dusting, damp dusting furniture, fixtures, fittings and ledges. Spot clean internal glass as necessary. Cleansing of wash hand basins, sinks, showers, WCs and fittings. Replenish supplies. Cleansing of beds, bedside lockers. Cleanse and refill soap dispensers and paper towel holders. Removal of waste from wards and departments to designated collection points. Use of polishing/scrubbing machines for maintenance of hard floors. Use of extraction machine for carpet/upholstery cleaning. Routine curtain changes (bed/window/screen curtains). Making up of on-call and relatives overnight stay beds. Use of ride on cleaning equipment; sweeper, scrubber dryer and burnishing equipment. Undertaking any other relevant duties which are delegated from time to time. Safe handling of cleaning agents and dilution ratios. Hazardous chemicals to be kept securely in storage areas when not in use. All cleaning equipment must be decontaminated daily and maintained in a safe usable condition - faults must be reported to a Facilities Team Leader immediately. Attend training courses including on the job training and training in the use of specific machinery as required. Cleansing cupboards are to be decontaminated and kept tidy at all times. Cleansing of infected room/bays in accordance with NUH Infection Control & Prevention Policy. Close liaison with the cleaning services and team leader and ward manager in identifying additional cleans, such as isolation rooms and bed space terminal. To act as a buddy to new starters (after training). To ensure that a clean protective uniform is worn at all times when on duty and to use relevant Personal Protection Equipment in accordance with the policies provided by the Trust. Demonstrates cleaning procedures to new starters. Completes timesheets or similar work records. Ensure concentration while using cleaning equipment. To undertake isolation cleansing when required following Infection Control Isolation Policy and Procedures. To work in accordance with the Trusts Policies and Procedures including COSHH, Manual Handling, Health and Safety, Infection Control and attend annual training. Descale baths, toilets, showerheads, tiles using specialist chemicals. Carry out specialist cleaning when required / with relevant training in: Theatres, Pharmacy, Laboratories, Labour Suite, Bioquell Training (Decontamination).
