Major Duties:
Physical Security Support: Performs alarm and access monitoring, tracing access patterns, programming, assigning or removing user permissions, updating databases, remotely opening and securing doors during routine and emergency operations and generating a variety of reports as needed. Assesses on-scene behavior and determines when it is appropriate to dispatch law enforcement or other personnel to investigate. Responsible for responding to alarm systems monitoring fire, access, intrusion, duress/panic, medical emergencies, psychiatric emergencies, medical assist teams, etc.; and emergency digital paging system. Monitors emergency weather alerts and transmits warnings system wide when appropriate. Maintains radio/alarm activity records/logs to include dates, times, and results of communications and activities and prepares completed reports. Implements policies, procedures, and methods for identifying and protecting information, personnel, property, facilities, operations, or material. Communications (Dispatcher): The position monitors and receives routine and emergency calls from a variety of sources that need police, fire, medical or other emergency services. Determines the nature and location of the emergency; prioritizes events and commits police resources appropriately; determines what notifications are necessary based upon event type, makes such notifications and coordinates follow-up communications. Receives and process emergency calls, maintains contact with law enforcement units on assignment, maintains status and location of Police Officers and coordinates communication between agencies as needed. Answers non emergency calls for assistance. Monitors and directs responses to security and life safety communications, radio dispatches, telephone calls, and other emergency communication circuits. Receives and compiles information from various sources related to police and emergency incidents, taking appropriate actions regarding intrusion, duress, and hold-up alarms. Directs response and/or modifies responsible personnel depending on the type of incident or request. Coordinates with various federal, state and local law enforcement officials for coordination of emergency situations. Responsible for the orderly flow of communications between the police dispatch center, agency leadership and the work force. Operates a variety of communications, computer and security equipment to support both routine and emergency operations.

Operations Support: Performs system checks on a variety of equipment used in the dispatch center. Troubleshoots systems when problems arise and resolves issues whenever possible. Conducts equipment inventories and completes records and other logs. Performs monthly alarm checks, submits reports documenting the operational status of each circuit tested. Initiates work orders for malfunctioning circuits and equipment. Enters, updates and retrieves information from a variety of computer systems and sensitive databases. Uses state and the National Crime Information Computer (NCIC) to access sensitive law enforcement information to support field operations and investigations. Queries for items such as criminal histories, arrest warrants, drivers record, vehicle registration, stolen property, firearms, etc. Enters or updates regional and national records and/or messages to support recovery of stolen property or missing/endangered persons. Gathers and relays applicable information to law enforcement personnel in the field. Uses the VA Police Software to research information, complete reports and logs, vehicle registrations, etc. Compiles and prepares reports related to events occurring in the operation of the police control center for dissemination of the completed products to various management officials. Generates police reports for routine, non-criminal cases such as: lost property, missing patients, etc. Processes Courtesy Violations Notices (CVN) and US District Court Violation Notices (USDCVN) in accordance with established policies. Accomplishes special projects and other duties as assigned.

As a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, WG-8852-5/8/10, duties include:

(1) Perform inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on assigned aircraft to include pre-inspection, daily inspection, pre- and post-flight inspections and such special inspections as required, including fuel contamination checks, oil sampling, an inspection of onboard emergency equipment. Conducts checks on hydraulic, electrical, transmission, power systems, etc.

(2) Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and performs unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft. Performs the full range of repair and testing of aircraft system, assemblies, and surfaces. Using a variety of methods involving test equipment, visual checks and instruments, diagnoses and identifies problem areas and determines the extent of repairs required. Removes components and assemblies, repairs or replaces defective parts and components and reassembles repaired items into the aircraft. Installs, aligns, and makes needed adjustments to major components and assemblies such as engines, propeller/rotors, transmissions, hydraulic systems, etc., assisting Specialists as required. Accomplishes adjustments to related systems which may be affected by repairs. Conducts ground functional tests of all aircraft systems. Inspects for conditions such as oil, fuel, and hydraulic leak, cut lines, tires and loose panels.

The Deputy Chief of Staff provides administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership for the Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Health Care System to ensure achievement of the clinical, research, and education goals of the organization.
