This position serves as a vital part of the JJP VA Medical Center Police and Security Services often serving as the face of the VA and as the first person a Veteran or visitor encounters when entering a VA facility. The position provides security and assistance to Veterans, patients, employees, contractors, volunteers, affiliates, visitors, and others who frequent VA facilities daily. Major duties and responsibilities include:

• Provides physical security support for Veterans Health Administration, Veterans Benefits Administration, National Cemetery Administration and Veterans Administration Regional Office (VHA/VBA/NCA/VARO).
• Assists in evaluating risk and developing procedures and physical security measures designed to safeguard personnel, property, and operations from unauthorized access, espionage, terrorism, sabotage, damage and theft.
• Ensures security requirements, including appropriate safeguards, cameras, panic and intrusion alarms are implemented.
• Performs law enforcement assignments to prevent or resolve offenses: books the accused; takes the accused before the appropriate District Court or magistrate; confers with the prosecutors; appears before the grand jury upon request; appears at preliminary hearings; and/or testifies at trial, if needed.
• Responds to reports of a crime in progress and/or calls for police assistance.
• Initiates appropriate actions to pursue and apprehend offenders who are leaving the scene of a crime or who attempts to resist arrest. Subdues individuals causing disturbances. Identifies and arrests violators based on eyewitness accounts. Takes charge at crime scenes restricting access to only those persons required to be present.
• Performs bomb search functions as required. Coordinates such search activities with the local bomb squad.
• Assists in managing the Security Program for the Medical Center/Health Care System which ensures that individuals requiring access have been vetted.
• Collects information and prepares reports on the facilities compliance with VA operations, regulations Physical Security and Physical Access Control Systems (PACs).
• Meets with key customers and coordinates with officials to assess customer satisfaction, explain organization policy and procedures, and resolve problems that arise.
• Develops various physical security-related documents, spreadsheets, graphs, reports and presentations using various automated systems and software packages, including the Veterans Health Information and Technology Architecture (VistA) System, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint to enter, access and retrieve information in the medical center computer system.
• Maintains a Physical Security Tracking report to ensure physical security surveys are followed up promptly.
• Monitors and evaluates existing present and planned security projects to ensure timely and quality service conforms to statutory, contractual and technical requirements.

Implements a comprehensive counseling program for the education department.

Leads, advocates and collaborates with the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) and outside agencies to promote equity and access to education for offenders.

Provides guidance and support to offenders to assist them in navigating and successfully completing the mandatory Literacy Program.

Creates and documents the progress of the offender’s counseling plan and provides assessment results analysis with summary to reflect the offender’s progress toward individual goals.

Provides a multitude of services to offenders both indirectly and directly and regularly assesses the counseling program itself to determine its effectiveness in helping offenders meet educational, career-technical, and reentry goals through utilization of the School Counseling Program Assessment tool and Bureau-based program review. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

The fitness program includes, as a minimum, group exercise classes, incentive programs, special events, for all customers and fitness improvement programs for military members not meeting Air Force fitness or weight standards. The sports program includes, as a minimum, self-directed and intramural sports. As customers request and resources allow, provide enhanced fitness programs and enhanced sports programs, e.g., extramural and varsity sports.

1. Plans, develops, organizes, manages, and supervises diverse and comprehensive physical fitness and sports programs which include group exercise classes, self-directed fitness and sports programs, incentive programs, special events, intramural, extramural, and varsity sports, and instructional programs.

2. Performs first level supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Supervises apprentices and fitness and sports specialists (GS-06 and below) in the Fitness Center.

• Collect and tabulate hydrologic and meteorological data required for the proper daily, monthly, and annual water accounting for water stored in and released from Reclamation dams, canals, wetland areas, and reservoirs within the Projects areas for the purposes of irrigation use by various irrigation and conservancy districts.
• Perform maintenance and inspection program to ensure proper operation of all mechanical and electronic facilities of two dams, (Heron and El Vado) under the control of the office.
• Participate in a maintenance program for approximately 11 miles of improved channelization works, including roads, bridges, side slope rip rap, and other structures.
• Assist with or performing minor dam site maintenance (basic facilities and equipment) including rock work, canal work, structure repairs, minor road repairs, weed control, Pump House housekeeping, painting, snow removal, etc. using hand and power tools.
• Prepare and finalize monthly water accounting reports for reservoirs and assists higher graded personnel in the preparation of major monthly and annual water accounting reports and annual operating plans.
• Acquire a variety of data such as streamflow (stream gauging; wading into river or off cable car) daily reservoir data, snowpack, weather data, and coordinated runoff forecast information.
• Operate the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to facilitate reservoir elevation and downstream release and gathering of information.

Major Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Operates a multi-trunk console located within telecommunications section of the Police Service
• Handles a wide variety of calls - local, long distance, overseas, and facility emergency calls
• Disperses callers rapidly and professionally to proper party or service within Medical Center - all callers must be treated courteously and assisted in a timely manner
• Responsible for the monitoring, testing, and recording the results of varying alarms and systems
• Responsible for the proficient operation of several complex computerized functions which include, multi-channel radio systems, closed circuit television system, and fire alarm system
• Handles incoming calls approximately 50% of the time, identifying location of clinics, units, and staff members
• Monitors a complex security closed circuit camera system that focuses on numerous locations
• Performs other related duties, including clerical, as assigned

Major duties include, but may not be limited to the following:

• Pull stock inventory and material for delivery; replenish stock inventory; interact with clinical and administrative customers and maintain records on stock levels.
• Communicate to the Lead or Supervisor any concerns related to supplies, equipment and procedures.
• Provide information to customers regarding medical supplies.
• Monitor expiration dates, rotate stock to limit outdates and remove items from use as required by outdates.

The Registered Nurse (Women's Health) duties include:

Providing competent, evidence-based gender-specific primary care to patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the setting.

Providing direct gender-specific Veteran care and care coordination, as it pertains, to Veterans and their care within the Primary Care Department.

Managing assigned panel(s), utilizes registries, and ensures appropriate evaluation and access is provided to patient panels. This nurse provides gender-specific health promotion, health education and coaching on wellness, disease prevention, and chronic care management.

Assisting in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization.
