The Medical Management Specialist, GS-0301-9 a developmental position, The Medical Management Specialist, GS-0301-9 will serve in a developmental assignment, to provide the individual with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the full range of routine and non-routine assignments independently at the next higher grade. Assignments given may initially be of limited phases but will increase through the full range of tasks as the incumbent acquires skills and knowledge through experience, on-the-job training, and formal training.
The Medical Management Specialist, GS-0301-11 position,
Program Evaluation, Planning Reporting, Data Analysis and Operations Management-The Medical Management Specialist is responsible for the administration of all patient support activities including registration, enrollment, eligibility, emergency transportation (ambulance), after-hours administrative and emergency operations, data integrity and validation, outreach, decedent affairs, beneficiary travel, administrative and technical support in direct patient care areas, telephone and information reception operations, bed management, and Health Information Management (HIMS) including Release of Information, Medical Coding, Clinical Documentation Improvement, Scanning, and Medical Records throughout the entire facility and four CBOCs. The Medical Management Specialist performs key duties in the areas of program management analysis, administration, and coordination of these programs/activities as well as to the lower supervisory and lead positions. Responsibilities primarily encompass strategic planning and directing, as well as management and coordination of all Business Office activities involving front-line interaction with Veterans and the public in accordance with all established federal, legal, regulatory, and policy directives at the VAMC. S/he will analyze trends and processes, coordinate with process improvement specialist(s) and/or teams to improve processes, and ultimately improve patient care programs in the organization. The Medical Management Specialist provides a high level of administrative support to Business Office, senior leadership, and clinical services.
Managerial Responsibilities- The Medical Management Specialist has responsibility for organizing, planning, directing, and controlling all the programs aligned under Business Office, and may provide direct supervision to subsection chiefs, including the Business Office Program Application Specialists, Program Analysts, and Clinic Profile Team, and Secretary in the absence of the Business Office Chief/Assistant Chief or as delegated by such. S/he is delegated the responsibility for formulating plans, evaluating, and coordinating the day-to-day administrative management of all Business Office functions which directly support routine interaction with Veterans,their families, and the general public.
