The Role:
Reporting to the Director, CDO Business Analytics & Operations Management, the Associate Director, CDO Clinical Financial Planning will collaborate cross-functionally on the development and implementation of cost management tools and processes within Clinical Development Operations (CDO). The ideal candidate will bring experience in analyzing and reporting clinical trial financial data, with a primary focus on clinical trial costing, scenario planning, and exploring trial optionality.
This role is pivotal in rapidly driving financial decision making and requires a candidate who is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and has a knack for transforming complex data into actionable insights. The successful candidate will have a proven ability to communicate complex financial information to diverse teams and stakeholders, and to collaborate effectively across the organization.
This position will also play a key role in clinical study financial risk management and process improvement. They are expected to identify and advise study teams on financial risks and impact to budget, continuously enhance study financial planning processes, ensure compliance with standards and internal processes and procedures, and provide training and guidance on financial planning related to clinical trials.
Here’s What You’ll Do:
Ensure accuracy of clinical trial budgets and forecasting, including modeling clinical study spend and supporting or developing system to support cost models with related assumptions
Develop, implement, and support financial planning tools and models focused on costing clinical trials and identifying cost-efficient options
Facilitate predictive analytics related to the cost of clinical trials, enabling rapid decision-making and efficiency
Collaborate with key stakeholders to transform business questions and data into cost-effective solutions for clinical trials
Lead initiatives and projects related to Clinical Financial Planning, ensuring solutions are scalable and follow best practices
Deliver accurate, innovative, and timely insights (ex. creation of dashboards and monthly reports providing transparency into clinical trial costs and trends)
Collaborate with CDO functions and R&D Finance to establish best practices, processes, and training for the financial planning of clinical trials
Provide subject matter expertise to teams on financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting related to clinical trials
Support teams in generating data around costing to allow for a financial assessment and impact for new studies, programs, and/or amendments to existing studies
Identify potential financial risks for clinical trials and propose mitigation strategies
Continuously evaluate and improve the planning process and systems used within role to increase efficiency and accuracy
Provide input as needed to financial aspects of contracts and agreements with third party vendors providing services on clinical trials
Liaise between R&D finance and CDO to ensure alignment and understanding of financial data on clinical trials
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:
BA/BS required, advanced degree preferred
Minimum of 10+ years of experience in a clinical research environment within the pharmaceutical, CRO and biotech industry
Minimum of 7+ years of direct experience in clinical trial financial planning, reporting, and analysis
Proficiency in financial modeling and forecasting, with a strong understanding of financial systems and databases
Experience with ClearTrial or similar software/tools preferred
Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with a demonstrated ability to transform complex data into actionable insights
Record of establishing effective business relationships with internal and external customers, demonstrating strong collaboration skills, commitment to relationship building, and a relentless focus on delivering on commitments
Ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic, cross-functional matrix environment
Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders
