Major duties and responsibilities include:

• Receiving work assignments and direction regarding work methods, procedures and schedules from either the Transportation Coordinator and/or the Mobility Manager.

• You will operate multiple types of hydraulic boon cranes to load, unload, move, and position heavy material and equipment.
• You will work from hand, radio, and other approved types of signals to position items where is there restricted maneuverability.

Performs a wide range of warehousing activities, including receiving, storing, and shipping a variety of supplies, materials, equipment, and resale merchandise. Operates one or more motor vehicles including platform trucks, and van trucks, which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight (GVW) of no more than 26,000 lbs.    Vehicles are driven on the basis of either specific trip assignments or regularly established schedules over public roads at highway speed. Adheres to all state, local and installation traffic laws and ordinances.  Ensures cargo is protected from weather and is properly distributed and secured to prevent damage or loss during transit.  Complies with applicable safety requirements.  Checks material loaded or delivered against various documents for accountability.

1. Operates gas and/or diesel-powered tractor drawn and tractor powered mowing equipment, including back-hoe, front-end loader, fairway mower, rough mower, a gang real mower, off-set counter-balanced rotary mower, aerator, fertilizer spreader and rod cutter on level or rolling terrain.

2. Operates a dump truck and other types of heavy-duty equipment, such as brush hog, rotary mowers, trim mowers, greens mowers, collar mowers, tee mowers, aerators, plows, chippers, diggers, and backhoes needed to do daily maintenance, make special repairs, and to do pruning, trimming or planting.

• Responsible for the general care and upkeep of golf tees, fairways, bunkers, hazards, putting greens, golf flags, sand traps, and other facilities on golf courses, lawn bowling greens, and other special lawn areas.

This is a bargaining unit position. This position is represented by AFGE. The incumbent operates a tract-mounted excavator, a front-end loader, backhoes and 124 HP diesel engines and other miscellaneous industrial tractors with attachments. Operator must be skilled in the safe economical and efficient use of specialized equipment such as buckets, blades and other attachments to accomplish interment and renovation activities. The incumbent has the responsibility of acting work leader. The incumbent is responsible for performing task to control and eliminate damage as well as wear and tear to equipment. Performs a variety of tasks relative to interment. Occasionally operates 5 ton dump trucks at 30,000 GVWR and below, forklifts and other equipment. May be required to layout gravesites using cemetery layout maps and perform other related duties as assigned in keeping with the overall operation of the cemetery. Performs some equipment and facilities maintenance. Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.

Work schedule: May be required to work Monday through Friday to include occasional weekends. Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Occasionally staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work.
