Transition Project Manager

Are you an experienced project manager with a strong background delivering complex mobilisation and transition projects? Serco, a global leader in public service delivery, is seeking a skilled Transition Project Manager to join our UK&E Growth team. In this role, you’ll take ownership of end-to-end project management, from bidding through to go-live, ensuring rigorous planning, effective programme controls, and successful project delivery. This is an ideal opportunity for a seasoned project manager looking to bring their expertise to impactful projects within a supportive and high-performing team.
As a Transition Project Manager, you’ll work closely with Principal Transition Leads and Transition Directors, guiding projects from the sales lifecycle through to delivery. This includes defining scope, setting standards, and developing plans for projects and workstreams. Your responsibilities will include programme control, RAID management, and quality assurance, as well as engaging with multiple stakeholders, from senior leaders to external partners. You’ll drive successful project outcomes while supporting continuous improvement across Serco’s portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
Working across both bids and contract mobilisation & transition programmes, you will:
- Scope Definition and Planning: Set the standard for defining scope and developing detailed plans for projects and workstreams, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and Serco’s best practices.
- Risk and Issue Management: Proactively manage RAID (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies) to mitigate potential challenges and support successful project outcomes.
- Programme Control and Governance: Establish and oversee programme controls, including change control, financial tracking, and progress monitoring, ensuring consistent governance across projects.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including senior executives and partner organisations, to ensure alignment and facilitate smooth delivery.
- Delivery Assurance: Lead deliverability and assurance reviews, ensuring all projects adhere to quality benchmarks and contractual standards throughout the lifecycle.
- Operational Readiness: Provide expertise in operational readiness and cutover planning, supporting projects in the transition to operational stages.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive the improvement of methodologies, tools, and templates, contributing to Serco’s knowledge base and enhancing the team’s effectiveness.
- Quality Management: Ensure high-quality information and deliverables are provided consistently, using data-driven insights to support governance and decision-making.
What We’re Looking For:
- Significant experience delivering medium to large-scale projects, ideally within an outsourcing environment.
- Proven track record in mobilisations, programme control, and high-pressure project delivery.
- In-depth knowledge of project and programme management methodologies, including PMO setup, governance, and assurance.
- Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams to achieve shared goals.
- Proven experience in bidding, mobilisations, and transitions.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio); familiarity with Smartsheet, SharePoint, and Power BI is advantageous.
- Ability to manage and influence multiple stakeholders, including senior executives.
- Practitioner-level qualifications in APMP, PRINCE2, or MSP are highly desirable.
