As a Supervisory Environmental Engineer GS-819-15, you will:

• Conceive, plan, organize, direct, and control, professional and technical engineering services and long-range programs and projects required to identify, evaluate, and control environmental hazards at the NIH due to physical, chemical, and biological materials.
• Evaluate, manage, and control general solid waste, hazardous wastes, medical/ pathological wastes (MPW), and mixed low level radioactive wastes generated at NIH.
• Conduct surveillance and analytical procedures to characterize potential environmental impact and develop necessary specialized equipment, technical systems and programs, and service contracts to comply with Federal, State, and local environmental, hazardous, and solid waste laws and regulations, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
• Serve as the primary manager for the NIH NEPA compliance program, performing assessments and making recommendations on Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements, and the final records of decision.
• Provide leadership and expert advice and consultation on environmental protection and enhancement issues to the Director, ORF and to NIH senior management and policy committees.
• Oversee and direct contract operations and coordinate the contract efforts within the DEP. Meet personally with professional staff of major contractors, visits contract facilities, reviews progress, and provides guidance to the DEP staff as part of the staff review on the technical efficiency and operational effectiveness of contract activities.
• Represent the DEP, ORF, and NIH in meetings and conferences with senior officials and representatives of other Federal agencies and private sector organizations as necessary, in order to plan, manage, coordinate, and oversee the programs and functions of the DEP.

As a/an Die Finishing Specialist, you will:

• operate and maintain a number of automated machine tools to auto-polish dies in the production of proof coins
• perform laser frosting operations and coating operations using the Particle Vapor Deposition (PVD) process
• perform automated and manual die finishing work for the production of proof coins.

The technologist must possess professional knowledge of the scientific principles, concepts and methodology of nuclear medicine technology to carry out a variety of diagnostic tests and verify results. He/She must be knowledgeable of multiple physical facts of radionuclides, their use and their effect on the different body organs being imaged. The technologist must possess multidisciplinary skills in order to assist with stress tests by starting IV's, placing EKG leads, taking blood pressures and ensuring all monitoring equipment is functional. In case of an emergency, the technologist provides oxygen, fluids, administers CPR and other life support when necessary while waiting for dedicated medical emergency staff to arrive.

Major duties include but not limited to:

General, Cardiac and PET/CT imaging duties.

The preparation, calibration and administration of radiopharmaceuticals under the direction of an authorized user (Nuclear Medicine Physician)

Performance of quality control procedures, the operation of imaging, laboratory, and computer instrumentation

Independently performs a full range of routine radionuclide imaging studies of various organ systems by planar, tomographic (SPECT) and PET/CT techniques.

Evaluates images and computer generated data and performs additional views as required.

Prepares proper instruments, computers and auxiliary equipment and acquires images as indicated by protocols.

Independently performs, evaluates and monitors quality control measurements of specialized equipment used in the performance of imaging studies such as gamma camera imaging systems by testing flood uniformity, linearity and spatial resolution with devices such as point sources, radioactive flood sources, bar phantoms, computers, dose calibrators, well/probe detector systems, and other ancillary equipment used on a daily basis.

Troubleshoots and makes judgments on the acceptable performance of the equipment prior to initiating studies on patients.

Performs, monitors and documents monthly, quarterly and annual quality control procedures on equipment.

Maintains inventory of radioactive sources used for quality control and associated documentation.

Assumes all the duties and responsibilities of a technologist in the operation and calibration of the PET/CT scanner and will be willing to receive the necessary training to engage in the daily operation of the PET/CT.

This announcement is for a position as a CORE (Cadre of On-Call Response/Recovery Employee). CORE employees are full-time employees hired to directly support the response and recovery efforts related to disasters. Employees are hired under the Robert T. Stafford Act and are excluded from the provisions of title 5, United States Code, governing jobs in the competitive service. They can be hired under a streamlined process instead of a competitive process. After three years of continuous service, Stafford Act employees may be granted competitive eligibility to apply for permanent full-time positions at FEMA.

• Participates in investigations involving electrical facilities, systems, and equipment at surface and underground mining operations, preparation plants, mills, and related facilities, including those that have their own power centers, where the equipment and processes are unique, where there have been persistent safety and health problems, and where the systems involved are extremely complex. The incumbent may serve as an electrical expert on teams investigating electrical-related accidents.
• Reviews, evaluates, and makes recommendations concerning the adequacy of mine safety and health, particularly on matters concerning electrical issues, for all types of mining operations (both surface and underground as applicable).
• Advises mine operators and other Federal and State inspectors of new or unusual electrical methods or other significant safety issues and technological developments. Evaluates and recommends approval or disapproval of requests for variance from electrical standards.

• Manages the facility Veteran Centered Complaint Resolution (VCCR) process, including complaint resolution, data capture and analysis of issues/complaints to make system improvements
