The post holder will support and usually lead on all aspects of work in radiology physics. Supporting the quality assurance and optimisation of diagnostic radiology systems. The post holder will be expected to lead MPE input into multidisciplinary optimisation working groups, setting up procedures for utilising a dose management systems, and give advice on equipment purchasing decisions. The post holder is expected to be an accredited RPA although applications from candidates with a short timeline to achieving RPA status are encouraged. Work will include acting as appointed RPA for at least one major contract and acting as a deputy RPA for GSTT. This will include all aspects of RPA work such as audit, shielding advice, attending radiation safety committees, advice on risk assessment etc. The post holder will prepare MPE dose reports for ethics submissions. Participation and leading in research and development work will be expected, including presenting at meetings and publication in peer reviewed journals, giving formal lectures, and participating in our journal club. The post holder will have a leading role in managing our radiology equipment QA service and this may include a limited role in performing QC when needed. While this is primarily a radiology focused role, the radiation safety team also provide scientific support to nuclear medicine, PET and radiotherapy and give laser safety advice to clients. There may be the opportunity for some work in these areas although the primary focus of this role will be on diagnostic radiology physics. RWA and LPA accreditation would be welcomed but are not fundamental to the role. Additionally the post holder will take line management functions for several members of the radiology physics part of the team. This will include regular one-to-one meetings, undertaking annual performance development reviews, managing sickness/absence etc. The postholder will be expected to deputise for the head of section as required for internal and external meetings.

DUTIES OF THE POST Provide senior leadership on the shopfloor during scheduled clinical shifts in order to coordinate the delivery of safe and excellent clinical care to all patients attending the Emergency Department and Urgent Treatment Centre. Supervise junior doctors and nurse practitioners in the assessment and management of patients and provide senior clinical review where appropriate. Work closely with multidisciplinary colleagues and inpatient specialty teams in order to ensure care is delivered in a streamlined and timely manner across the acute pathway. Lead clinical rounds in all areas of the Emergency Department in order to review patients and management plans, and to ensure safe handover. Promote a strong focus on achieving and maintaining national and local quality and performance standards. Participate in an on-call rota to provide consultant cover to the department during the out of hours period. Participate in the administration and management of the department and attend the monthly Senior Team meetings. Support and develop the departmental clinical governance strategy and take part in Patient Safety and Clinical Governance meetings. Participate in departmental clinical meetings including the Paediatric and Adult Safeguarding meeting. Liaise with in-patient specialty teams in order to smooth interface across disciplines and provide integrated and patient centred care. Build relationships and collaborate with General Practice and Community colleagues to ensure integration and innovation between primary and secondary care. Develop guidelines in order to ensure systematic delivery of evidence-based care. Participate in departmental and Royal College audit programmes and work with the multidisciplinary team to devise and implement quality improvements. Act as a named Educational or Clinical Supervisor to Foundation and Specialty Trainees in the department. Participate in the Emergency Department teaching programmes for medical students, junior doctors, registrars, ENPs and Advanced Clinical Practitioners. Support teaching and training within the wider organisation and across the region, including participation as faculty in resuscitation and simulation courses. Support academic Emergency Medicine activity in the department and region and take part in research with the local network. Support and the medical, nursing, and administrative workforce in the department. Promote and inspire Clinical Excellence in Emergency Medicine at the Whittington.

As a Senior Programme Manager in the Hospital Policy Team within the Integrated Urgent and Emergency Care Team, the post holder will lead on the development of hospital policy, best practice guidance and products to support improvements in the delivery of care to patients in the UEC hospital pathways. To work within and between the adult CHD and Aortopathy teams, to provide expert care and consult services for inpatients with Aortopathy (with Drs Pandya and Von Klemperer). He/she will also provide outpatient care for new and follow-up patients with CHD and also provide Aortopathy clinics and echo clinics for these patients. He/she will also participate in the care of outreach CHD OPD provision developing a new outreach hub within Barts & The London NHS Trust. There is also an in-patient care commitment for adults with CHD with daytime ITU / ward cover on a weekly basis (1:6) and He/she will join an on-call rota, which provides 24/7 CHD cover on a 1 in 6 rota. He/she will also provide a consult service for Aortopathy inpatients on a 1:3 in-hours basis. The out of hours rota requires a commitment based from home, which includes phone call availability and consult for acutely sick admissions. Time off in lieu can be considered for out-of-hours attendance at the hospital. OP clinics have typically 10 patients with 1-2 new patients per list. The in-patient workload is around 5pts but can vary. Participation weekly MDTs attending the CHD and Ao MDT alternating weeks. The post holder will fully contribute to the administrative, teaching and research activities within Barts Health and the Heart Hospital. All consultants represent the department on various committees within the trust as well as taking responsibility for particular delegated areas according to their interests and availability. The Clinical Director is responsible for delegating these responsibilities.
