- Duties described below are at the highest grade advertised. Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
- Responsible for programmatic, technical, and organizational integration within the NESC in conjunction with major Agency programs. Incumbent will integrate essential NESC activities and facilitate communication among and within NESC assessments.
- Provides technical integration for assigned programs and missions, specifically Space Operations Mission Directorate (SOMD); Commercial Crew Program (CCP).
- Leads NESC involvement with SOMD related NESC assessments and ensures communication of program-related activities through program boards and panels, NESC Review Boards, and other technical meetings.
- Partners with the local NESC Chief Engineer in providing a focal point between SOMD Programs and the NESC.
- Coordinates, leads, and reviews independent systems engineering reviews and analysis of NASA programs, projects, and activities
- Serves as a senior consultant on the most challenging problems in aerospace and aeronautical engineering to an agency having responsibility for an engineering program of national or international scope and impact.
- Performs internal NIO systems engineering tasks including preparation of NESC submissions of assessment lessons learned to the Lessons Learned Information System, preparing NESC response to critical flight readiness and safety mission reviews.
- Develops, analyzes, and evaluates long-range plans for the NIO. Develops and implements policies improving internal operations of the NESC.
