Senior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine (ST4+) –80:20Research

The senior clinical fellow posts include 80% time working in the adult emergency department and 20% paid time to develop in a specialist interest of the successful candidate’s choice. The posts are open as OOPT/E for EM HSTs and as stand-alone posts for non-trainees, and can be 100% EM if required. We are also open to SAS and Specialty Doctors if that suits.

The posts provide an ideal opportunity for the successful candidates to develop their own specialist interests while working in a busy inner city university hospital, with teaching and research responsibilities and are based in the adult side of the department.

Applicants should hold a relevant postgraduate qualification (MRCEM, MRCP, MRCS, FRCA or equivalent), and should be ST4 + or equivalent, having completed a minimum of 3 years in approved SHO posts (Post Foundation Medicine) or equivalent in relevant acute specialities including at least 1 year in Emergency Medicine.

The post will be a combination of service provision including out of hours and paid time to develop a specialist interest. The candidate to combine a job in Emergency Medicine with a 20% time allowance for a specialist interest. Specialist interests may include but are not limited to education (SIM/FOAMed), global health, expedition medicine, leadership and management, advanced airway management, research (with Professor Jonathon Benger), ultrasound, resuscitation, toxicology and paediatrics. If an applicant has a particular specialist interest they would like to pursue not listed above then we will accommodate. Open to trainees and non-trainees. For those trainees who already have a UK National Training Number in Emergency Medicine, these posts are eligible for OOPT or OOPE.

Clinical

The reception, diagnosis and emergency treatment of patients presenting to the adult Emergency Department. The successful candidate will be given supervision and support from senior medical staff to develop competency in the autonomous clinical management of these patients whilst ensuring patient safety. This post is based in the adult Emergency Department and no sessions will be undertaken in the paediatric Emergency Department.

There is close liaison between ED and ICU at BRI. Patients referred to Specialist Units within the hospital are the responsibility of that specialist team, who will see the patient in the Emergency Department and arrange appropriate care. However, medical and nursing staff in the ED are responsible for any emergency care necessary. This shared care is seamless and collaborative.

Managerial

The management responsibility of the post holder will be to the Clinical Director who is responsible to the Chief Executive and Trust Board.

Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance

The post holder must be aware of clinical governance and clinical risk management and take an active part in their implementation, including audit. Clinical audit is established at the BRI. They will participate in at least one supervised audit project during the 12 month post and will be encouraged to attend interdisciplinary clinical governance meetings

On-Call Commitment

In ED the roster is a full shift system. Shifts are a balanced mix of earlies, mids, lates, and nights. The post’s pay will be calculated by HR and will be compliant with the new regulations set in Aug 2017.

A full-time substantive role, has arisen for a suitably qualified enthusiastic person to join our team of physiologists in the Sleep Unit within the Respiratory Medicine Department at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.

The ideal applicant will have a BSc in Clinical Physiology or equivalent qualification and have successfully completed ARTP Parts I & II or Practitioner level exam. They should also have relevant experience in sleep studies.

As well as carrying out clinical investigations the role will involve deputising for the Lead Clinical Physiologist, assisting with service development, providing supervision and ongoing education for other members of staff and students on placement within the department. You should have the ability to work flexibly, be able to work with your own initiative and enjoy working as part of a team. A keen eye for detail and accuracy is also required. You will be expected to work closely with other healthcare professionals, including respiratory consultants, nurses and physiotherapists.

This role is for 37.5 hours per week. There can be some flexibility regarding the exact hours to be worked, although there is the requirement for some evening (late shift) working.
• Responsible for providing an efficient and high quality service in the field of Sleep Studies and to provide the very best care and efficient treatment of patients during their stay in the department.
• To work collaboratively with colleagues and other professionals to ensure services meet changing healthcare needs.
• To deputise for the Sleep Unit Clinical Lead, covering all aspects of the role, when required.

Job description

The focus of this role is to ensure the smooth running of the Household Energy Services (HES) team by providing team-wide administrative support and taking responsibility for coordination of daily and weekly tasks, maintaining accurate and detailed records, whilst overseeing processes and procedures that ensure HES is compliant with GDPR and Health and Safety requirements. You will work across our fuel poverty and retrofit projects supporting project managers and key staff to ensure administrative tasks are completed to a high standard.

• The role is full-time however part-time will be considered, (minimum of 22.5 -
37.5 hours per week).
• The salary for the role will be £29,864 - £32,816.

Specific responsibilities

An applicant appointed to the role will be expected to:
• Importing batches of client information into our client management system and
ensuring uploads are working correctly. Addressing errors on our client
database: merging data where it is held across multiple client records, deleting
incorrect enquires and deleting duplicate client records.

• Make outbound calls to clients when required, such as booking home visits,
and keeping client records up to date.

• Support HES team annual leave process, checking managers have approved
internal team requests and updating allocations against projects on the staff
planner.

• Manage and keep track of HES subscriptions to services or packages and
coordinate payments and purchase orders with project managers. Make sure
any details and logins are GDPR compliant.

• Responsibility for HES complaints handling procedure – providing guidance to
managers handling complaints to ensure adherence to policy and tracking and
recording responses.

• Support senior HES managers with recruitment work; liaising with appropriate
teams within CSE in producing HES recruitment materials; onboarding new
HES starters including providing thorough team specific information for line
managers.

• Support senior HES managers with probations and interim review meetings;
tracking progress towards probations. Tracking progress towards appraisal
SMART objectives with support from the line manager.

• Be a GDPR champion for the HES team. Working with CSE’s GDPR officer
and project managers to ensure procedures are compliant.

• Take a proactive approach to problem solving. Influence and contribute to
improving HES systems and processes.

• Supervise and mentor the HES Project Administrator, support their learning
and taking ownership for ensuring consistency of HES admin provision.

The Post holder will:
• Act as an expert resource and is responsible for ensuring all elements of set up are completed in accordance with UK and EU legal requirements, Trust policies and ICH-GCP or IS0 14155, as appropriate, whether conducted personally or through appropriate delegation.

Day-to-day, you'll look at MOD policy for maintenance and optimise requirements into packages of work to maximise efficiency.

• Providing in-service support to the Royal Navy's fleet of submarines.
