A leading Professional Services firm based in Belfast is currently recruiting for an experienced Legal Secretary.

You will be working as a team to act as a point of contact for fee earners and the completion of their work, the role with undertake all aspects of the Legal Support Assistant role, and where appropriate, manage the workflow by utilising Administrative Assistants and Document Production, retaining ownership and accountability of all tasks through to completion. Provide a high quality, comprehensive workflow management and organisational service to fee earners in the group and exceptional client service

Duties:

• Manage the production of documents and check returned work produced by the Document Production team
• Taking and making client related calls, dealing with and handling message taking as appropriate.
• Manage Interaction and ensure new prospects, clients and contacts, activities and business development information are added.
• Responsible for keeping up to date with client specific protocols and processes, implementing, providing guidance and training to others where necessary and ongoing monitoring.
• Support fee earners in business development activities including the involvement in preparation of pitches and presentations, scheduling meetings e.g. tenders, directories, internal clients.
• Manage diaries, ensuring they are up-to date, anticipating requirements e.g. associated travel /accommodation bookings, meeting rooms, drafting itineraries, preparing agendas, preparing and circulating papers.
• Produce and maintain Excel spreadsheets as required.
• First point of contact for the team, dealing with queries and acting on initiative to provide exceptional client service, promoting and developing ownership within the teams.
• Arrange for the preparation and collation of internal sector newsletters and briefings.
• Arrange photocopying, printing, organising couriers, sending out letters, faxes etc.
• Receiving instructions via digital dictation for tasks and acting upon the same.
• Key point of contact for fee earners and clients to maintain relationships and ensure a high level of support is always provided by the team.
• Assisting fee earners with billing related tasks.
• Minute taking, following up designated actions to ensure completion ahead of the next meeting.

Requirements:

• Proven experience of managing client facing tasks and priorities, with a hands on, practical approach.
• Effective at investigating issues and seeing a problem through to conclusion.
• Conscientious, taking personal responsibility for own work and accountability for its delivery and quality.

Based in Omagh, working 36 hours per week Monday to Friday 9-5pm, the successful candidate will work at an Executive Officer grade on a temporary basis, for our client's Pre-School Education Programme and support for the Pre-School Education Group (PEG).

The successful candidate will have excellent MS Excel skills including use of Pivot tables, graphs, look-up functions and formulas. They will also provide administrative support, follow set procedures, and exercise some independent judgement in carrying out instructions under general supervision.

The rate of pay for this role is £12.94 per hour.

Duties will include:

• Supervise staff including the allocation of tasks, checking output, quality and quantity of work, rotation and reallocation of duties or workload
• Ensure staff are appraised in line with the Education Authority's Staff Appraisal Procedures and assist in compiling a staff development plan for the team in accordance with the Education Authority's Staff Development Policy to maximise the potential of staff
• Provide administrative, clerical, and confidential secretarial support
• Arrange and service the PEG meeting and other relevant committees and working groups and draft minutes thereof
• Develop, maintain, and operate manual and computerised information systems in support of the service reviews and pre-school education
• Gather information from a variety of sources including schools, voluntary organisations, Department of Education and Health and Social Services and other organisations as required
• Use information technology systems and devise appropriate methodologies for the effective recording of data
• Use appropriate information technology to analyse data
• To be the first point of contact in the receipt of telephone calls; to receive visitors to the Section; deal with routine queries; and to record messages accurately
• Provide ICT administration, filing, faxing and photocopying in support of administrative processes including the use of email and internet

• Full UK driving licence

Desirable Criteria

The Role and Department

The Directorate brings together pan-institution specialist student support services within the Colleges and Wider Student Experience Division and incorporates the Student Support and Wellbeing Office, Counselling and Mental Health Service, the Disability Support Service and the Student Conduct Office.

The Student Support and Wellbeing Office seek to recruit a Public Health Advanced Practitioner who will be responsible for key elements of the University's Health and Wellbeing Strategy. This will be delivered through effective collaborative working with University students and staff, plus wider stakeholders including the local authority, local NHS providers, the third sector and independent/private sector. Through consultation, collaboration, coproduction, developing, implementing, monitoring and leading key public health programmes across the University, the post holder will help us reduce health inequalities and improve health and wellbeing for our students [and staff].

The postholder will play a key role in forging partnerships with, and influencing all key stakeholders, including public health commissioners and providers, to ensure the widest possible participation in the public health agenda to support the development and delivery of strategic objectives. The post holder will report performance and progress to the Head of Student Support and Wellbeing and governance committees within Durham University.

The post holder will also benefit from a partnership agreement with Durham County Council's Public Health Team who will provide professional mentorship for the role and identify relevant training opportunities. This will also help to ensure our excellent working relationship between the two organisations is maintained and further strengthened.

Durham Law School seeks to appoint a Professor in Climate Law and Sustainability (Research & Education) as part of a strategic investment in Durham's Centre for Sustainable Development Law and Policy: Just Transitions to a Net Zero World (JusTN0W). The ambitious and interdisciplinary initiative JusTN0W is funded by a £5 million investment that will see seven academic staff appointed to lead Durham's commitment to a better and fairer world in the face of climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental degradation. Our initiative brings together academic colleagues across Law, Economics, Computer Science and Natural Sciences to advance the knowledge and the implementation of just transitions to net zero at international, national and local levels. The work programme comprises four strands of work. Each strand sets forth a range of objectives, including grant capture activity and engagement with different partners. You will be joining an interdisciplinary team of colleagues at an exciting moment where we are shaping and developing cutting-edge research and impact agenda to attract sustainable research funding and leverage research capacity. We build on existing links into international governance frameworks such as the Conferences of Parties (COPs) under the umbrella of the international climate change regime. By collaborating and harnessing expertise across disciplines, the JusTN0W initiative will support your groundbreaking solutions to address the climate crisis.

This position offers the candidate the opportunity to focus on research and grant income generation. All Professors are encouraged to focus on quality and innovation throughout your research and educational activity. But we'll also look to you to provide genuine leadership and citizenship - not just in your field, but across the University environment, and in the way your department functions administratively.  The candidate should have a well-established international network in academia and beyond, which can be used to develop pathways to impact. It is important for the success of JusTN0W that the team grows and works together towards achieving the objectives of the project.

Assistant Professors on the Education and Research track are encouraged to focus on research and teaching but are also expected to engage in wider citizenship to enhance their own development, support their department and discipline, and contribute to the wider student experience.  Applicants must demonstrate high quality research in the field of law and/or economics, with the ability to research at the intersection of these areas and to teach our students to an exceptional standard and to fully engage in the services, citizenship and values of the University.
