DT is a well-resourced and supported subject at Ralph Allen school, growing in popularity at both GCSE and A-level. We currently run A-level Product Design and GCSE’s in Food Preparation and Nutrition, Product Design: Textiles, Product Design: Resistant Materials, Art & Design; Graphic Communication and a Construction Vocational Qualification.
The role of the Technician is wide ranging from ensuring equipment and machinery is maintained and safe to use; materials are prepared, and stock maintained; through to assisting teachers and students in the classroom and workshop. An ability to pro-actively anticipate teachers needs would be advantageous, as would employing your expertise in developing new projects.
The department has a broad range of equipment, and the successful candidate will need to feel as confident using a 3D printer and laser cutter as they do a bandsaw and lathe. Full training will be provided on all equipment, as will DATA Health and Safety training, for the successful candidate.
An interest in DT is required and although a DT or technical background would be advantageous, it is not essential as full training will be given.

The Opportunity

EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is tasked with delivering the design for several nuclear island (NI) buildings, systems, and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project. This involves working through an integrated team, supporting HPC construction and commissioning efforts, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. As a result, a Technical Directorate is being established to oversee the engineering disciplines and technical expertise needed to successfully deliver these projects through EPR-E’s integrated teams.

As the Electrical Technical Lead, you will support the Power Transmission Engineering delivery managers and handle engineering activities for other buildings within the CI-BOP perimeter. Your responsibilities include coordinating design activities, managing technical interfaces, ensuring design consistency, overseeing technical progress, and engaging with stakeholders, while also updating system documentation and supporting contract-related tasks. For HPC projects, you'll also need to liaise regularly with the JDO team, potentially requiring regular visits to their office.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll support the Power Transmission Engineering delivery managers, handle engineering tasks for CI-BOP buildings and assist the Building Manager with electrical interface studies to ensure a coordinated and integrated design.

You’ll contribute to client quotation requests by identifying required resources and estimating workloads.

Additionally, you’ll analyse and verify technical input data, manage technical interfaces, address change requests ensuring design completeness and consistency using a 3D model.

You’ll produce high-quality design deliverables, conduct technical verifications, and lead progress meetings.

You’ll also write and update system documentation, including design manuals and safety classifications, identify periodical testing, and produce technical documentation for tendering phases while supporting contract organization and resolving technical issues.


Who you are

Being an Electrical Technical Lead at EDF means having a degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering and substantial experience with Power Transmission projects and components.

You should have a proven track record in producing high-quality design documentation and managing workloads to meet deadlines effectively.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be responsible for managing the lifecycle implementation of developing UK-Context subjects, including scoping, stakeholder engagement, development, testing, and training rollouts. You’ll oversee the delivery of technical solutions as outlined in the UK-Context delivery plan, ensuring progress and accountability are tracked and reported. You’ll also identify issues within the NSA Consortium that require UK-Context intervention and collaborate with Subject Best Athletes to provide effective solutions.

You’ll support the creation and delivery of UK-Context documentation, including templates, guidance, procedures, and training programs, ensuring they meet the needs of the NSA Consortium. In addition, you’ll deliver training sessions, workshops, and orientations on key UK-Context topics, such as ALARP and CDM, while developing formal training programs for wider group use.

You’ll play a key role in regulatory monitoring for the SZC project, producing quarterly and yearly reports. Collaboration with HPC, SZC Ltd, and NSA Consortium entities, including EDF and Framatome, will be essential. Occasional travel to France may be required to support the development and delivery of arrangements.


Who you are

Being a Technical Requirements Management Lead at EDF means bringing a solid educational background in engineering, along with in-depth knowledge of the nuclear industry, nuclear plant operations, and nuclear safety from both design and operational perspectives. You’ll have a strong understanding of UK law, regulations, and best practices, particularly in areas such as Health and Safety Legislation, including ALARP principles, CDM regulations, Nuclear Site License, and Environmental Permit requirements.

Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential, as you’ll be delivering training and facilitating workshops across various teams. Experience working on HPC or SZC projects is highly desirable, as is a proven track record in interfacing with regulators and entities across nuclear sites.

Ideally you should have knowledge of the Sizewell C NSA Consortium Organisation, and fluency in French would be an asset for collaborating with international stakeholders.

Role summary:

DX Warehouse Operatives are responsible to ensure the safe and efficient unloading and loading of freight from vehicles into, and from the site. They will also support the delivery operation to ensure the correct freight is loaded to complete the delivery routes.

Key responsibilities:

-Represent DX in a professional manner at all times

-Follow all aspects of DX Manual Handling and safe working policies, including the correct use of all PPE

You will work in close liaison with teachers and assist in the day-to-day preparation of teaching resources and maintenance of equipment. The role
As a Appian Developer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary you will have delivery responsibilities within a team of dedicated developers to ensure that you and the team deliver technical solutions for customers on time and to the expected quality standard provided by the Systems DevelopmentManager.

Day-to-day, you'll work with new and current software as you undertake requirements reviews, technical design, modelling, software development, unit testing and deployment of new applications as well as continual improvement to existing applications.

Main Responsibilities

• To ensure software development is undertaken in accordance with IT quality, plan and procedures.
• To undertake efficient software development using good design and implementation methodologies.
• To undertake unit testing to verify developed software performs in accordance with the supporting requirements.
• To attend workshops / reviews / stand-ups to discuss the development project, demonstrate progress to date and communicate with project stakeholders.
• To build and maintain software releases and patches in accordance with agreed Policies and Procedures - providing out of hours support during for these software releases and patches when required.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite a month.

Essential experience of the Principal Appian Developer

• Significant experience working as a Softare Engineer
• Demonstratable knowledge of Software Development Life Cycles (SDLC).
• Knowledge of waterfall, iterative and agile approaches to software delivery.
• Experience in Appian
• A good knowledge of database design and working SQL is desirable.
