The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (ROH NHS FT) is the largest provider of elective orthopaedic surgery in the UK and provides routine and specialist orthopaedic services. It is also the leading specialist centre for bone and soft tissue cancers and provides a regional spinal service.

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of a high quality and clinically robust service to wards and other clinical areas, with a focus on achieving clinical excellence. As a highly specialist clinical pharmacist the post holder will be responsible for:

The Estates Department at Birmingham Community Health Care NHS Trust is seeking to recruit a Multi Skilled Craftsperson

The post is primarily a mechanical maintenance position, therefore flexibility, self-motivation and a thorough knowledge of engineering building services are the key attributes along with the ability to diagnose and repair faults on various electrical installations, plant and machinery

You will have successfully completed a recognised mechanical craft apprenticeship.

You will also have suitable relevant maintenance experience (previous NHS experience would be an advantage but not essential as full training will be given) and be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation and Safe Working Practices.



To principally provide a comprehensive mechanical maintenance service for the repair, maintenance and minor installation of mechanical and mechanical – electrical systems. Maintenance requirements will be located at Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHC) owned, leased properties and properties where BCHC provide an estates maintenance service, via a service level agreement or management agreement.

· Ensuring mechanical (and other) safety of tradespersons and craft assistants working on systems under direction as a competent person for mechanical (and other) activities, and at all times to ensure the safety of patients, public and staff.

· Unblocking of sluice machines, toilets, sinks and drains.

· Wheels, castors, wheelchairs lubrication, cleaning and repairs.

· Touching up paintwork and making good of floors walls and ceilings.

· Minor carpentry repairs and making safe.

· Minor building repairs and making safe including windows and boarding up.

Further to the above technical duties the post holder shall also deliver the following:-
• Notify a Team Leader or Estates Officer of any anomalies or deficiencies within the Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) system.
• Ensure all repairs are carried out without undue delay and that a Team Leader or Estates Officer is informed of expected delays in carrying out this work. Maintaining communication with the end user providing progress reports, details of work and general update of work in progress and to advise of any undue delays in carrying out work
• Provide advice, instruction and training to maintenance assistants and other staff (including end users) where the subject matter is straightforward i.e. new equipment, new installations.
• Work independently to clearly defined policies with minimal supervision or support when required (freedom to act) and be able to make and justify decisions based on clear and rational analysis of the risks and requirement of the post.

· Interpret and work from instructions, drawing and specifications with minimal supervision and using own initiative.


• Manufacture, assemble, erect and install new work, using various tools, machinery and general workshop equipment including acceptance testing of new equipment participates in surveys & audits as necessary

Clinical
• To work on a six monthly rotational basis in the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital undertaking rotations in out-patients, gymnasium rehabilitation, hydrotherapy, orthopaedic in-patients, orthopaedic oncology and out-patient paediatrics

• To perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse and complex presentations, using manual assessment techniques, analytical skills and clinical reasoning to determine a diagnosis
• To formulate and deliver individual treatment programmes based on evidence-based practice, using clinical reasoning and a wide range of manual physiotherapy techniques. To evaluate and modify treatment plans according to assessment and patient needs, discharging them when appropriate
• To communicate effectively and gain informed consent from patients, carers and other professionals to maximise rehabilitation potential and ensure understanding of condition and/or surgery. • To maintain accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date documentation in line with departmental and CSP standards, including communication of assessment and treatment results to appropriate disciplines in the form of reports and letters
• To represent the physiotherapy service and/or individual patients at ward rounds, clinics and case conferences where appropriate. Liaise with members of the multidisciplinary team regarding patient care and progress to ensure co-ordinated service delivery
• To act as professional advisor to other hospital staff where appropriate, providing specialist advice, teaching and instruction regarding physiotherapy
• To provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to relatives, carers and other professionals to promote understanding of the aims of physiotherapy and to ensure a consistent approach to patient care
• To be an active member of the evening and weekend on-call physiotherapy service
• To work at weekends and in the evening as part of contracted hours depending on rotation

Professional
• To maintain own clinical professional development and portfolio by keeping abreast of any new trends and developments, incorporating them into current clinical practice as necessary
• To be an active member of the in-service training programme, through attendance and presentation at tutorials, training and peer review sessions within the physiotherapy department
• To provide clinical experience and supervision for undergraduate physiotherapy students appropriate to your rotation
• To undertake the measurement and evaluation of work and current practices through the use of evidence-based practice, audit and outcome measures, either individually or with more senior physiotherapists
• To demonstrate a sound understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management and apply to work situation, following department and Trust Policies.

Organisational and Managerial
• To deputise for the Team Leader in their absence, taking responsibility for daily team management, allocating and organising the work of staff to meet service priorities on a daily basis
• To maintain high professional standards with respect to patients, colleagues, the service and the environment. Encourage staff under your supervision to follow your example
• Liaise with senior staff as appropriate, with all issues relevant to service delivery and development
• To be responsible for the safe and competent use of equipment within your current area of practice by patients, colleagues and student physiotherapists through teaching and supervision
• To comply with all Health and Safety standards of the Department and the Trust, including prompt reporting of accidents and incidents and ensuring that equipment usage is safe
• To remain up-to-date and attend all mandatory training provided, in line with Trust policies

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team. The role will involve supporting the qualified staff in the rehabilitation of patients following orthopaedic surgery, or with musculoskeletal conditions, with a large involvement in return to sports rehabilitation.

Applicants must have suitable experience and relevant qualifications for the role. You must have the ability to work with your own initiative and to manage your time effectively. As a major part of the role will include leading rehabilitation classes and formulating individualised exercise programmes for patients, excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills are essential.

Support and training will be offered where required, and we have a comprehensive in-service training programme for all outpatient staff.

Flexible working hours apply - the physiotherapy outpatient and gymnasium services operate extended hours, and you may be required to work at weekends.

JOB PURPOSE

-To perform routine assessment of patients requiring therapy intervention, as directed by a qualified Physiotherapist (PT).

-To independently formulate, implement and progress treatment programmes for individual clients and groups, assessing progress and modifying to achieve set goals.



MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1 To be responsible for own caseload providing treatment to patients with a variety of conditions which require therapy intervention, as delegated by a qualified physiotherapist.

2 To assess patient progress and modify treatment programmes as necessary within the physiotherapy outpatient department

3 To lead designated rehabilitation classes within the gymnasium.
