The Unit Manager will be responsible for the direct clinical management and leadership of the team and patients within the Acute Medical Unit .
AMU is a busy 24-hour unit comprising of a 50 in-patient beds. The unit accepts patients presenting with acute medical conditions who require short term acute medical care covering a variety of specialities.

We work closely with our ED colleagues, assessment areas within the division of Urgent Care and our Medical Division colleagues to ensure a safe patient journey from hospital to home.
The Unit Manager will ensure effective managerial and clinical leadership of the Acute Medical Unit. To always act as a role model and contribute towards the provision of nursing expertise and specialist knowledge within the area of practice. The Unit Manager will guarantee the team are delivering, a high standard of care, ensuring all local and trust polices, and guidelines are being adhered too.

A. Exercise effective managerial and clinical leadership of ward/department staff
B. Demonstrate effective use and deployment of ward/department staff.
C. Undertake individual performance review and the identification and implementation of personal development plans for all staff.
D. Be responsible the effective management of the ward/department pay and non-pay budget.
E. Ensure compliance with all Trust policies and national guidelines.
F. Deal personally with patients, families, and carers to aid resolution of complaints.
G. Hold regular ward/department meetings and represent the ward/Directorate team at other meetings as and when required.
H. Facilitate open and effective communication within the ward team.
I. Manage the selection and appointment of ward staff.
J. Manage sickness and absence of staff within ward team in accordance with Trust policy.
K. Ensure that duty rotas are prepared; reflecting skill mix against patient workload using agreed methodology and comply with European Working Time Directive as appropriate.
L. In conjunction with the Head of Nursing Service, monitor the registration status of all professionally registered staff within the ward/department.
M. Demonstrate responsibility for reporting all accidents/untoward incidents and ensuring relevant documentation is completed.
N. Undertake delegated responsibilities from the Head of Nursing Service.
O. Act as the team leader for a group of patients
P. Actively promote and monitor the safety, well-being and interests of the patients, staff and all visitors to the clinical area.
Q. Be conversant with and lead the ward/departmental contribution to local, corporate, regional and national performance objectives.
R. Be responsible for the monitoring of quality and performance standards of services provided to the ward by external agencies.

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months. Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.
