Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral neuronal cell biologist to work on a project to target calcium channels in Parkinson’s disease. The project, funded by the Michael J Fox Foundation and in collaboration with Lario Therapeutics, represents an exciting opportunity to undertake translation work at the interface between academic research and pharmaceutical target and drug discovery in an exceptional setting. This work will develop new inhibitors of calcium channels as a neuroprotective strategy to protect vulnerable dopamine neurons in Parkinson’s working with induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived dopamine neurons generated from Parkinson’s patients.

Duties include growth and differentiation of iPSC lines; leading on design and implementation of experiments and cellular assays in neurobiology (eg: calcium imaging, multi-electrode array (MEA), biochemistry, immunocytochemistry, cell and molecular biology; interpretation of data; preparation of data for publication; contribute ideas for new research projects and develop ideas for generating research income; manage own academic research involving small-scale project management; supervise a Research Assistant on the project; and act as a source of information to other members of the group.

You will have excellent knowledge relating to neurodegenerative disease and practical experience in neuronal cell culture and in techniques relevant to molecular and cellular neuroscience. The ability to innovate, trouble-shoot technical problems, be meticulous in practical work and in record keeping is also essential. Applicants must hold, or be near completion of, a PhD/DPhil in a relevant area of research and have experience in cellular neuroscience, and molecular cell biology relevant to analysis of neuronal phenotypes.

Be responsible for assisting site management in operational technical cleaning activities. This will include, assisting in the management of labour and resources, plant and equipment operation and maintenance, Health & Safety, Quality audits using the company IOS platform & administrative duties. Applications are invited for a Research Assistant to work on a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary project to develop transgenic rodent models of Parkinson’s disease. The work will support projects seeking to use rodent models of disease to understand the earliest stage of neurodegeneration at a point in which neuronal dysfunction precedes neuronal loss, offering an early therapeutic window for therapy. The post will be based in the Laboratory of Molecular Neurodegeneration in the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics, and is supported by the Wellcome Trust and an international consortium funded by an Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s (ASAP) grant.

Duties include colony management, breeding and maintenance of lines of transgenic rodents; collection of brain tissue for gene expression analysis; general laboratory management, preparation of data for publication; contributions to wider project planning and determine the most appropriate methodologies to test hypotheses. You will have a good working knowledge of molecular and cellular biology, excellent practical experience of working with animal models and an interest in pre-clinical in vivo models of neurological disease. Previous experience of the management and maintenance of transgenic rodent lines would be an advantage. The ability to innovate, trouble-shoot technical problems, be meticulous in practical work and in record keeping is also essential.

Applicants must hold a BSc/MSc in a relevant area of research and will have excellent practical experience of working with animal models.

The fixed-term post is available immediately and until 30th April 2027. The post will be based in the Laboratory of Molecular Neurodegeneration, Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery, New Biochemistry, Phase 2, Parks Road, Oxford. Are you an experienced theatre practitioner with enthusiasm for education? We are currently looking for a Practice Development & Education Lead (RN/ODP) who is credible, dynamic, motivated and well organised to lead the provision of high quality clinical practice and education in theatres.

This is a great opportunity to join our diverse and dynamic teams. We have 19 theatres in two departments where you can gain a wide variety of experience. TheJohn Radcliffe Main Operating Theatre Departmenthas five theatres where routine and emergency surgery takes place. The West Wing Operating Theatre Departmenthas 14 theatres and provides specialist surgery for adults and children. Specialties include E.N.T., Ophthalmology, Neurology, Children’s (Orthopaedics & General), Plastics and Max Fax’s surgery. You will have overall responsibility for one area but work across other theatre departments as required.

We have a dedicated Education team in place with a comprehensive education strategy, to underpin the development of all grades of staff within theatres, facilitating career development and progression. You will share clinical skills and knowledge in collaboration with educational plans, to ensure on-going clinical competency validation, alongside core skills and essential education for clinical staff. In addition to delivering classroom based education, there is an expectation that the successful candidate will work with clinical staff in the operating theatre department to ensure that competency assessments are carried out in a timely manner to improve patient care. A key role will be supporting and facilitating placements for a variety of healthcare students and their supervisors/assessors in co-operation with Oxford Brookes University and Bucks New University. Experience of teaching, supervising and assessing healthcare students in the practice setting and excellent communication skills are essential for this role.
