We have a great opportunity for a Principal Procurement Manager. This role will report into the Head of Procurement and Contract Management and lead on providing comprehensive procurement support to development and construction activities for solar and battery storage projects. As a key figure of the procurement team, embedded within EDF R’s Central Technical Office Procurement Department, this is a key position in delivering end to end procurement support principally for Solar and Battery Projects.
What you’ll be doing
In this role you will balance a busy workload and ensure objectives are achieved on time without compromising governance, safety and quality standards.
The key challenges for the role will be to define, agree and execute value-driven commercial strategies (in conjunction with your business partners and wider stakeholders) whilst ensuring adequate procurement and commercial management resource is in place to play a key part of project delivery.
Principal accountabilities include:

- Developing and leading a team of procurement professionals .
- Initiating and implementing Solar and Battery project procurement/sourcing strategies and plans including obtaining buy-in from key internal stakeholders.
- Assessing and evaluating procurement risks (political, environment, technical, economic and legal) and developing appropriate procurement/commercial mitigation strategies.
- Leading procurement of goods and services for new projects and associated activities to agreed project and commercial objectives in line with governance and approved procedures.
- Develop category management expertise in consultation with key stakeholders to identify and promote new procurement opportunities for the business (e.g., new entrants, innovations, cost savings etc.) that generates improved commercial insights and value.
- Able to use and interpret market research/market intelligence.
- Identification, pre-qualification and qualification of suppliers.
- Lead on the evaluation of bids and co-ordinating inputs from the wider evaluation team (technical, legal, HSE).
- Negotiation and timely award of high value contracts for goods, works and services in consultation with the wider project team in in accordance with best-value and approved procedures.
- Auditing/reviewing compliance with approved procurement procedures, including participation in key supplier audits (where necessary).
- Performance management of supply chain to drive continuous improvement and optimal performance, including compiling and evaluating periodic procurement KPI reports.
- Managing procurement processes on business systems (e.g., SAP, iValua) and acting as a single point of reference for your business users.
- Promoting sustainable and ethical procurement in line with EDF R’s sustainability ambitions.
- Provide support to wider team objectives and technologies in the EDF-R portfolio, such as business planning, Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) and procurement systems development.

What do you need to be great at this role?

You’ll have considerable procurement experience coupled with Proven ability to conduct successful commercial negotiations with suppliers and educated to degree level or equivalent.

- Comprehensive knowledge of the principles of procurement, sourcing and contract management and a proven track record
- Experience of leading teams and support team development (e.g. towards CIPS or equivalent qualification(s))
- Experience in the renewables and/or construction industry would be advantageous but is not essential
- Experience in commercial administration of development and construction contracts and cost management.
- Good working knowledge of category management techniques.

Hiring a Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Manager on a full-time permanent basis for our client, a family-owned steel fabrication business, based in Stockton-on-Tees. Known for producing bespoke solutions across a range of industries including renewables, petrochemicals, nuclear and construction.

The position will cover all health, safety and environmental activities and is anticipated to have significant interface with all aspects of the company. A key part of the role will be to help define, drive and mentor HSE standards throughout the business.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

- Participating in policy and procedure reviews
- Leading and participating in formal risk assessments
- Training, mentoring and influencing all members of the business on all HSE matters, to encourage a safety conscious culture
- Ensuring compliance with HSE legislation
- Conducting site safety audits

Qualifications/Requirements:

- NEBOSH Diploma
- Experience as Lead/solo HSE representative
- Experience in a steel fabrication setting
- Experience working with lifting and slinging equipment and hot works
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong organisational skills

The Role and Department

Durham University is lead partner for Northern Accelerator, an ambitious research commercialisation initiative involving Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland, Teesside and York Universities. The core delivery team are based in Durham's Research and Innovation Services (RIS) department, which provides guidance, expert advice and hands-on support for all aspects of research and research-related work, including undertaking knowledge exchange, demonstrating impact, and commercialising outputs.

provides support that accelerates and enhances commercialisation and knowledge exchange outcomes (specifically including spinout creation), that are based on research undertaken at our partner universities. It has helped deliver a step-change in spinout activity - in support of individual institutional strategies as well as the local strategic economic plans of the relevant Combined authorities and the Government's UK Innovation Strategy. We have secured funding from Research England's CCF-RED Fund to pilot a range of activity that complements and enhances Northern Accelerator's established offer. We are looking for a Network Development Manager to take responsibility for delivering key elements of this activity, engaging with partners and wider stakeholder networks to:

* Support the recruitment of experienced entrepreneurs to our 'Executives into Business' candidate pool, promoting the opportunity through engagement with targeted sector and entrepreneurial business networks and maintaining engagement with registrants;

* Facilitate spinout networking for executives and founding academics of partner university spinouts providing opportunities for peer engagement and support;

* Collate and curate a network of contacts in support of programme delivery (e.g. expert panellists), broader commercialisation activity (e.g. specialist consultancy), and to aid spinouts' access to specialist professional services support (e.g. accountants/tax advisors); and

* Support Northern Accelerator engagement with target clusters and sector bodies, the wider innovation ecosystem and university commercialisation communities.

The role holder will work as a key member of a small delivery team that engages with colleagues from across the university partnership. There will be scope for flexible and hybrid working arrangements to be agreed.

Please note that this role is being advertised as a fixed term position, aligning with the end of our current CCF-RED funded pilot project. If it proves successful our intention is to seek to secure funding to continue these network activities, alongside other elements of the Northern Accelerator model.
