- Prepare experimental setups for all lab activities and trial the experiments and modify the experiments, when required, prior to the Science curriculum/enrichment lessons and Science CCA.

-  Prepare additional apparatus for teachers who wish to carry out additional Science activities and be on hand to help out during Science Workshops conducted by the school.

- Assist with the purchase of materials required for experiments for both Science curriculum lessons/enrichment and Science CCA in alignment with budget requirements.

- Ensure and maintain the cleanliness of the two Science Labs

- Conduct stock-taking of all apparatus and resources belonging to the Science department at least twice a year.  Maintain a logbook for entry of classes into and out of the Science labs.

-  Maintain a logbook for entry of any broken/condemnation of apparatus and chemicals for the Science labs.  Preparation of the Outdoor and Indoor Hydroponics/Urban Farming Facility for planting and harvesting followed by cleaning of the facility in preparation for the next harvest.

-Monitoring of the Science Ecological Gardens and assist in replacement of plants where required.

- Maintanence of the Laboratory Aquariums (which includes the change of water and assist in replacement of plants and livestock where required).

Makerspace

- Prepare materials and tools required for makerspace recess activities and workshops

- Manage and maintain makerspace equipment, including 3D printers, digital cutters and other tools.

-  Provide technical support and assistance to makerspace users regarding equipment operation and troubleshooting.

-  Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment within the makerspace.

- Support in miscellaneous administrative school matters required by the HOD/LH Science/School Admin. 

The National University of Singapore invites applications for research assistant/associates in the Multimodal Neuroimaging in Neuropsychiatric Disorders Laboratory (MNNDL), Centre for Sleep and Cognition, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The MNNDL group at NUS studies the human neural bases of cognitive functions and the associated vulnerability patterns in aging and neuropsychiatric disorders using multimodal neuroimaging and psychophysical techniques. We are interested in the large-scale brain structural and functional networks in healthy developing and aging brain and symptoms-related changes in diseases such as neurodegenerative disorders and psychosis. Statistical, computational, and machine learning methods are developed to analyze and fuse multimodal neuroimaging data. By integrating longitudinal behavior, neuroimaging, and genotype data, our long-term goal is to investigate the interactions among brain network dynamics, behavior, diseases, and genotypes to develop non-invasive biomarkers for early detection, differential diagnosis, progression monitoring, and treatment design.

Key attractions are access to a high-performance computing cluster, two 3T Prisma MR scanner and a MR compatible digital EEG system as well as collaboration opportunities with an excellent network of domestic and international scientists and doctors. Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant (RA) will work closely with the Principal Investigator, lab members, and collaborators to ensure successful completion of research projects (including neuroimaging, behavioral, and digital tracking experiments), smooth operation of computing and neuroimaging equipment, and efficient management of neuroimaging database in the lab.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The research assistant will support the effort in conducting cutting-edge neuroscience and machine learning research and development. He/she has the opportunity to learn state-of-the-art neuroimaging techniques, data collection and analysis, with healthy participants and patients with neuropsychiatric diseases. He/she will be primarily engaged in all neuroimaging and behavioral experiments such as subject recruitment, behavioral testing, digital tracking, image data collection, and data analysis. He/she will also be able to learn how to conduct fMRI scans with EEG recording, interactions with patients, quality control, behavioural assessments, neuroimage processing using automatic or semi-automatic scripts, and implications in neuroscience and disease. The research assistant is expected to learn neuroimaging softwares and assist researchers in IRB application, data preprocessing and database management in various research projects. He/she will be exposed to ongoing research work in machine learning and statistical analysis in the context of neuroimaging, cognitive neuroscience, and neuropsychiatric disorders. The research assistant/associate will have the opportunity to liaise and work with other clinical collaborators across the institutes/hospitals in Singapore on research projects and contribute to the presentations and publications of research work. Job Description:

Science

• Prepare experimental setups for all lab activities and trial the experiments and modify the experiments, when required, prior to the Science curriculum/enrichment lessons and Science CCA.
• Prepare additional apparatus for teachers who wish to carry out additional Science activities and be on hand to help out during Science Workshops conducted by the school.
• Assist with the purchase of materials required for experiments for both Science curriculum lessons/enrichment and Science CCA in alignment with budget requirements.
• Ensure and maintain the cleanliness of the two Science Labs.
• Conduct stock-taking of all apparatus and resources belonging to the Science department at least twice a year.
• Maintain a logbook for entry of classes into and out of the Science labs.
• Maintain a logbook for entry of any broken/condemnation of apparatus and chemicals for the Science labs.
• Preparation of the Outdoor and Indoor Hydroponics/Urban Farming Facility for planting and harvesting followed by cleaning of the facility in preparation for the next harvest. Monitoring of the Science Ecological Gardens and assist in replacement of plants where required.
• Maintanence of the Laboratory Aquariums (which includes the change of water and assist in replacement of plants and livestock where required).

Makerspace

• Prepare materials and tools required for makerspace recess activities and workshops
• Manage and maintain makerspace equipment, including 3D printers, digital cutters and other tools.
• Provide technical support and assistance to makerspace users regarding equipment operation and troubleshooting.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment within the makerspace.

Others

• Support in miscellaneous administrative school matters required by the HOD/LH Science/School Admin.
• May also be deployed to help other departments in the school or school events/activities, should the need arise.

Job Requirement:

• An ‘O’ Level qualification and basic knowledge of IT applications (e.g. MS Word and Excel).
• Must be proficient in English.
• Able to multi-task and able to handle a fast paced environment.
• Preferably at least 3 years of working experience in a school environment and have some basic knowledge of laboratory, chemicals and apparatus.
• Candidates without relevant school experience but who possess comparable skills and qualifications will also be considered.

• Monitor and manage stock-taking of equipment and Science resource materials.

• Prepare lab materials/resources to ensure experiment is carried out effectively.

• Maintain a catalogue of lab resources to assist teachers in planning of their activities.

• Assist in product specifications and sourcing of teaching apparatus, posters and furniture to enhance lab’s appearance and functionality.

• Assist teachers when experiments are carried out.

• Keep a log on loaning and returning of apparatus.

• Assist in the preparation of apparatus and equipment for lessons.

• Maintain general cleanliness and functionality of equipment.

• Sit in during Science Olympiad lessons.

• Any other jobs assigned by the department - administrative work which include collation of teaching and learning materials and preparation of resources necessary for teaching and learning in Science, helping during Science Practical Assessments.

Job Requirement

• At least 3 passes at GCE ‘N’ level

• Relevant experience as a Lab Technician in a school setting is highly advantageous

• Possesses good communication skills to liaise with teachers, students and other stakeholders.

• Meticulous and detailed in carrying out tasks.
