The Role

The Financial Management team is a centralised finance service within the Resources Directorate using the Business Partnering approach to provide business and financial advice, guidance and expertise across the Council. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Finance to join our Trust in the Central Finance Team, to lead the Finance transactional team, oversee KPIs and financial reporting, drive new finance projects, as well as play a key role in supporting new schools joining the Trust.

This role is expected to start in Spring term 2025.

Main purpose of the job:

The Head of Finance (HoF) for the Prospere Learning Trust will be a member of the Trust’s Strategic Leadership Team and will provide oversight and day to day support on all finance and resource matters relating to the Trust. They will work closely with the COO to ensure the smooth running of the Trust.

The HoF will lead on matters relating to finance for the Trust and provide oversight, advice and guidance to individual academies in the Trust; ensuring there is effective and efficient financial management across the Trust and that Trust mission and values are embedded in financial practices.

The HoF will play a lead role in the financial development of the Trust Strategic Plan and plan and lead in the design, development and implementation of systems, policies and procedures to ensure compliance in all relevant financial legislation relating to the Trust.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Acting as first point of contact for all users of the Integra software. This will include problem solving, providing user guidance within any finance applications, establishing if referral to the internal IT support or logging a service support request with the Managed Service Supplier (MSS). This will include providing supporting documentation and examples of system errors or malfunctions. Maintaining aspects of the Integra system by scheduling and reviewing system jobs, completing month-end processing and general system housekeeping. Maintaining procedures notes that are the responsibility of the financial systems team, ensuring that all processes and systems are documented and procedures are reviewed and updated on a regular basis in line with audit requirements. Vigorously test new solutions and report problems with evidence to the designated point of contact. Report faults in the software and follow through to fix Testing eForms, reports or other tools to enable process change as per agreed process flow. Continually review and support users on new system processes and reporting. Conforming to the monthly / annual timetables and external reporting deadlines, adhering to the system elements of the timetable, identifying issues and informing appropriate personnel as soon as these arise. Validating, approving and uploading system input files such as payroll, electronic purchase invoices and journals. Resolving queries and escalating issues where appropriate. Production of the NHS transparency reports, credit card expenditure journals and other ad-hoc reporting requirements. Creating and maintaining complex spreadsheet/databases in MS Access / MS Excel including the use of queries, pivots, macros and formulas Responsible for the provision and receipting of sensitive and confidential information and whilst adhering to regulations on internal and external data protection policy and information governance. Ensuring secure and relevant access to the Integra system through the set up and maintenance of appropriate security records and user group menus to ensure this meets the requirements of segregation of duties. Maintaining complex information by use of excel spreadsheets, as the post holder will demand a significant amount of time to be spent at a VDU using keyboard skills; the ability to concentrate on complex information/problems is imperative.
