An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Revenues and Benefits Section for two individuals to join our exciting work in an everchanging environment.
1 x 35 hour post, fixed term to 01/03/2026
1 x 17.5 hour post, permanent
Benefits & Council Tax Section
This team manages over 45,000 properties for council tax. This front line service provides advice and administration to the public on registration, exemptions and discounts, issues annual bills to customers and reminders if the tax is not paid on time.
Specific duties will include:
• Maintain Council Tax register in line with legislation and guidance
• Answer enquiries, whether by telephone, in person, in writing or by email, from customers and/or their representatives within agreed timescales
• Process application forms for discounts, exemptions and disabled person reduction using the Council Tax system and DIP and Workflow system
• Take appropriate recovery action on council tax accounts under the statutory enforcement scheme in line with legislation
• Take telephone payments and set up payment arrangements
• Promote Direct Debit take up
• Process transfers on overpaid accounts
• Assist in the implementation of initiatives to maximize the income of the council by promoting the take up of HB / CTR and by maintaining close working relationships with Housing, Benefits, Scottish Welfare Fund and Advice services
• Attend and contribute to service working groups on policies or working practices in relation to debt collection
• Review and respond to correspondence and enquiries received from customers and their representatives
Workstyle/Location:
Enjoy the flexibility to work remotely with the expectation that you attend the office in Church Street, Dumbarton for ad hoc meetings and training.
Requirements
The preferred candidate will be required to complete a Basic Disclosure check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.
Responsibilities
The employment for which you are applying is excepted from the provisions of section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exceptions) Order 1975.
