About the Role:

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated team at a thriving SEMH Secondary School in Lewisham.

Your role will be pivotal in supporting students with a range of emotional and behavioural needs, helping them to achieve their full potential in a safe and nurturing environment.


Key Responsibilities:

Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs.

Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behavior support strategies.

Work closely with teachers to create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.

Foster positive relationships with students to encourage engagement and participation.

Support the development of social skills and emotional resilience in students.
Monitor and report on student progress to ensure tailored support is provided.


Requirements:

Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is highly desirable.
A patient, empathetic, and resilient attitude.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.
Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ, or equivalent) are advantageous but not essential.

As a SEN Behaviour mentor, your day-to-day tasks will include assisting teachers in delivering engaging lessons, implementing behaviour management strategies, facilitating activities to promote social skills development, and supporting students in their academic and personal growth.



Must Have:

- Skills at building rapport with challenging young people

- Effective communication and interpersonal skills

- Able to support students with academic subjects at basic levels

- Availability to commit to Monday to Friday 8.30am-4.45pm

The role – SEN Teaching Assistant

This role is to support pupils with Special Educational Needs as a Teaching assistant in a primary and/or secondary setting. You will be responsible for working with pupils who have a mixture of special educational needs and disabilities. Working with them on a 1:1 or small group basis and providing direct support along their learning journey. Adapting their work to cater to a mixture of abilities and needs.


You will be responsible for safeguarding. creating a safe learning environment, encouraging positive and good behaviour, supporting the class teacher and other staff, supervision of children, reporting and welfare checks, communicating with others.

You need to be proactive and supportive as well as hard working, energetic and ready to learn each day. You must be empathetic, professional and want to work with young people to make a difference in their learning journeys.
