We are seeking an experienced and successful Bid Writer to join our Fundraising and Development Office, to lead and coordinate high quality proposal development. As well as responsibility for researching and writing complete proposals, the bid writer will work as part of a bid writing team coordinating larger proposals with our dedicated and passionate research fellows across varied specialisms from agriculture to social change.

Applicants should ideally have experience in one of the following areas: business development, income generation, fundraising, research, communications or a commercial sales-oriented business but we are open to applications from experienced candidates from other backgrounds.

The Knowledge for Development and Diplomacy (K4DD) programme at IDS is an evidence and learning service that supports the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to respond to complex development and diplomacy challenges, improving the impact of policy and programmes. We are seeking to recruit a Research Officer with experitise in the private sector and development, to support the evolving programme of research, learning and policy engagement work being carried out under the K4DD programme, as well as working across a range of other research and evidence impact programmes.

The position of Research Officer within K4DD is exciting and unusual, providing a bridge between academic experts and those working in donor agencies and government policy and research departments. One of the flagship services offered by K4DD is the rapid response research helpdesk where FCDO advisory, policy and research staff can submit short research queries on any topic. Delivering high quality, policy-relevant evidence syntheses within very short timeframes is the majority of the work of the Research Officer role within K4DD.

Applicants will have a postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject area alongside excellent knowledge and understanding of current issues and debates in one of the areas listed above. The ability to assimilate complex research or other relevant material quickly is essential and should be demonstrated through experience of undertaking literature reviews, evidence syntheses, semi-structured interviews and data analysis.

The Institute of Development Studies (IDS) is a global research and learning organisation for equitable and sustainable change, based in Brighton. The Resource Politics and Environmental Change cluster at IDS are seeking to appoint a Project Research Officer.

The role of the Project Research Officer will be to contribute to a European research project, entitled ‘The Great Green Wall and Sahelian Environmental Imaginaries’. The Research Officer will be working under the guidance of the Principal Investigator Professor Jeremy Allouche.

Applicants must have at least a postgraduate degree in social sciences/humanities (PhD desirable), with a good knowledge and understanding of current issues and debates in political ecology and African politics and society. Fluency in French is essential.

The Project Management Unit (PMU) at IDS is seeking to recruit a Project Support Officer to provide project support for a number of projects; duties include assisting with project planning at all levels within the PMU, providing support for project managers and project teams, communicating with stakeholders, collating, light formatting and proofreading, preparing documents and reports, working with partners and setting up subcontracts, coordinating day-to-day operational aspects of the project(s), work closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient implementation of the project(s), coordinating and monitoring budgets to support the project being delivered within budget, supporting the development of project proposals, and supporting the administration of specific events, such as workshops, seminars, or short courses. Applicants should have previous administration experience and an understanding and experience of financial spreadsheets in Excel.

The Fundraising and Development Office (FDO) provides a strong platform for implementing fundraising and development activities. The FDO leads a number of critical functions for the Institute, including: building donor relationships; fundraising and horizon scanning; engaging with High Net Worth Individuals (HNWIs) and private philanthropy; providing large and cross-cutting bid support and proactive engagement in bidding processes and calls; building systems; managing frameworks and consultancies; facilitating partnerships management; and engaging alumni.

We are seeking to recruit an Alumni Relations and Engagement Manager (on a fixed term basis) to join the vibrant and friendly FDO team to lead on the diversification of IDS revenue (specifically focusing on alumni relations, and (UK) trusts and foundations) to bring in additional funding support for IDS's strategic priorities. The Alumni Relations and Engagement Manager will lead IDS's alumni relations work, including leading the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Alumni Relations. Working with other colleagues, the Alumni Relations and Engagement Manager will coordinate alumni engagement activities.

Applicants should have a good attitude to learning new systems and have excellent organising and engaging skills. Applicants should have well-developed project management and interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communications, expertise in conducting effective surveys and engagement data analysis. Applicants should also demonstrate an ability to nurture and strengthen relationships with alumni.
