Main Areas of ResponsibilityAs our Academy Counsellor, your responsibilities will include:

To provide a counselling service within the Academy, responding to social, emotional or educational concerns.
To assess the appropriateness of counselling as part of the referral process.
To promote a caring and supportive environment where concerns can be explored, thereby promoting mental and emotional health at the academy.
To uphold good practice as described by the BACP ethical guidelines.
To fulfil professional supervision requirements.
To maintain adequate records of clinical work and to keep these secure.
To maintain training and continue professional development.
To attend and participate in Complex Needs Panel meetings as appropriate.
To liaise with relevant staff within the Academy making them aware of problems experienced by students and to make recommendations as to how these may be managed/resolved, as appropriate.
To liaise with other professionals, including attending meetings within the Academy and with outside agencies, as appropriate.
To be alert to trends and patterns of problems and be willing to identify causes and recommend corrective action.

Assisting ALG in the management and development of attendance and punctuality policies
Daily monitoring and follow-up of attendance and punctuality
Participating on late desk and follow up detentions
Contacting parents/carers of students absent at agreed time and recording reasons for absence if given
Daily monitoring and early calls on the attendance of children in care or students on the vulnerable list
Making home visits with the Academy welfare manager as required
Sending letters to parents regarding attendance matters as requested by the Academy Welfare Manager
Ensuring the smooth operation of the computerised registration system
Ensuring daily attendance information is entered accurately onto the system
Establishing the reason for absences including telephone calls, letters and home visits
Preparing and distributing attendance and punctuality certificates
Following up on poor attendance or punctuality
Signing students in and out of the Academy outside normal start and finish times
Liaising with the Educational Welfare Officer to ensure prompt, consistent and rigorous intervention with poor attendance

Professionally welcoming and receiving all visitors to Head Office in accordance with safeguarding and Health and Safety procedures
Telephone switchboard services, including maintaining employee records to update the system
Ensuring reception area and meetings rooms are inspected, kept tidy and returned to original state following meetings, reporting any issues to Office Manager
Assisting Office Manager with facilitation of office maintenance processes
Ordering and preparation of refreshments for meetings and events
Receiving and distributing incoming and outgoing mail and parcels and maintaining the franking machine account
Managing couriers and associated accounts
Maintaining an up to date academy contact sheet of Principals/PAs

Being the first point of contact and named responsible officer for first aid for students and staff

Oversee Educational Welfare across the academy
Manage a caseload of ‘at risk' students where attendance falls below 85%, and implement strategies to improve attendance
Have responsibility for monitoring the attendance of most vulnerable students at the academy, including Looked after students, those on the child protection register, and children identified as being in need
Manage the process of addressing poor attendance across the academy
