Enitial (a division of Cawood Scientific) currently have an opportunity for a regional based Environmental Technician working within our Field Services Team. This role will conduct routine monitoring cross-functionally across Enitial services and activities and is predominantly site based.

Reporting to the Area Manager, the individual undertaking this role will be competent across a range of services and encouraged to specialise in certain areas with the view of becoming a Senior Technician following extensive training and exposure on site.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct routine environmental monitoring across our three service areas of Water, Construction and Compliance in accordance with company protocols, quality assurance requirements and our client’s contract specifications.
• Conduct routine checks and maintenance of environmental control systems and client infrastructure.
• Provide a reliable, efficient and professional level of service to our clients at Enitial.
• Liaise with clients on-site building a level of trust that leads to dependable, long term and positive relationships.
• Maintain Enitial’s credibility by being the face of Enitial in the field and always portraying a positive image by keeping equipment, vehicles and PPE clean. 
• Respect company equipment and vehicles ensuring routine calibrations and maintenance is completed in line with company protocols.  
• Work as a team within regions building and maintaining morale and actively offer help and assistance wherever possible.    
• Report any deviations from methods or non-conformances through to Area Managers, Data Analysts and Account Managers that could impact upon data integrity or data gaps.
• Manage time efficiently, reviewing own schedules and reporting through to the Scheduling / Project Controller ways in which works could be conducted more effectively.
• Manage data accurately and in line with client / company requirements. Report data through to the Data Analysts timely and in the correct format.
• Responsible for keeping safety at the forefront of field works and being proactive ensuring accidents and near misses are always reported straightaway to the Area Managers and client in line with our company accreditation and policy.
• Always compliant with the ‘Stay Safe’ remote working application when working out on-site
• Liaise with laboratories and couriers ensuring samples taken in the field are always, to the best of your ability, compliant.

• Assist with on-site training of new employees providing proactive support ensuring there onboarding into the company is friendly, engaging and inspiring.
• Provide routine company admin through to central systems including expenses and vehicle checks on a monthly basis.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

• IT Literate and proficient in Microsoft Office
• Fluent in written and spoken English.
• Full UK Driving License
• Passion and experience of working outdoors and prepared to work in all weathers.
• Proven track record in problem solving and being proactive.
• Ability to work on own and manage own time proficiently.
• Exemplary communications when working remotely.
• Willingness to engage with clients and stakeholders.
• Flexible working hours, happy to work weekends, travel and overnight stays away from home.
• Some experience in environmental monitoring would be an advantage but not necessary as full training is provided.

Job Description

• The Job entails performing but not limited to wet chemistry, physical chemistry and Combustion analysis.

• A flexible attitude to work is essential and you will be expected to help out in other areas as both volume and type of work varies on a seasonal basis.

• The jobholder is required to analyse samples and to provide accurate, precise and quality data using the analytical techniques as described by Standard Operating Procedures within the specified time limits and adhering to all safety criteria.

• This involves completing allocated analytical work on time and to the required standards, working efficiently and effectively to minimise waste and time used, therefore maximising the efficiency and profitability of the laboratory.

• It is expected that the work and its interpretation will be carried out competently with a large degree of independence.

• Where applicable, work must be carried out to meet the current requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 as laid down by UKAS.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES AND MAIN DUTIES

• To ensure that all the operations, procedures, policies and equipment within the Job Holders area of responsibility are maintained to the highest standards and conform to all UKAS requirements where required. To monitor the allocated work and interpret data generated and to alert management to any actual, or anticipated deviations from key objectives or timelines.

• Ensure that all analyses are completed within agreed time scales, to all quality criteria and in the most cost-effective manner. To ensure that work is fully, accurately and promptly recorded and reported, for example on data sheets in the computer database and other documents to support the work programme. To communicate problems, results or progress to the management as required.

• To check and validate where necessary all analytical work undertaken to ensure only the highest quality analytical data is presented for reporting. To make verbal reports to Section Management and other senior staff on a regular basis and as necessary, to continue efficient working.

• To ensure all instruments used are cleaned, maintained and record books are kept up to date.

• To observe stock control of chemicals and consumables and to order or alert supervisor of inadequate stocks.

• To understand and follow Company policies and to ensure good standards are maintained for UKAS, safety and environmental standards (e.g. accident reporting, waste disposal). To alert Section Management of any deviations or deficiencies with work, equipment, safety or compliance.

Technical/Work-based Skills

Understanding of ISO, UKAS, audit procedures and methods.

Good laboratory skills and practices as well as food/feed chemistry and microbiology techniques

General Skills/Attributes

Must be able to work effectively and collaborate within own team and other sections.

Must take initiative and have the ability to conduct hands-on work.

Strong communication and influencing skills

Must possess the ability to handle multiple tasks with high attention to detail.

Highly organised and excellent time management skills.

Exciting opportunities are currently available in the East Midlands area for trainees looking to begin a career in the environmental sector. Trainees will chiefly undertake aspects of soil sampling and logging across the agricultural sector with a view to expand their skillset in groundwater, surface water, and air quality monitoring in time.

A fully expensed company vehicle will be provided as travel is essential - candidates must hold a full UK driving licence with the expectation to travel daily across the region and to various sites in order to carry out duties. 

Previous experience of fieldwork and working with electronic devices is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided.

Key responsibilities include:

· Answering queries from customers via the phone or email professionally and efficiently.

· Responding to customers requests for analysis results, invoices and other general enquiries.

· Updating customer details when requested by the customer or internal team member.

· Booking, and then tracking, couriers to ensure samples are collected on time from customers and sample boxes are returned. Ensuring all courier and sample paperwork is accurate.

· Working alongside the Customer Services Manager and Accounts to submit invoices, purchase order numbers and reports.

· Receiving and distributing the post, whilst also ensuring the external post is franked.

· Build and maintain good working relationships with team members.

· Assisting with storage and collection of samples from the laboratory.

• Accurately inputting information from other companies to ensure the production of certificates.
• Creation of forage packs to be sent to customers for their return of samples to the laboratory for analysis.
• Greeting new and existing customers and building relationships to develop the business.

Requirements for the role:

· Previous experience in a customer service and office environment

· Excellent organisational skills, including organising own workload

· Good Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel and Outlook.

· Transport - Due to our semi-rural location, a personal means of transport will be essential.

Job Description

Cawood currently have an opportunity for a Soil Technician to be based out of our site in Bracknell on a full time, permanent basis.

Responsibilities

• Unload and move heavy batches of samples to the Grinder room.
• Handle samples and place them into drying trays as preparation for grinding.
• Prepare and grind samples to required standard into batch trays ready for extraction.
• Sort samples into order and manually stamp with unique ID number.  Attention to detail is essential to ensure no errors in sorting.
• Empty heavy sample bags and extraction buckets into allocated bins on site.
• Perform maintenance on the equipment when required.  
• Weigh dry samples and record data onto LIMs system and calculate the Dry Matter Percentage.
• Understand and follow the Standard Operating Procedures provided.
• To work in other preparation roles within the company as the workload dictates.
• Maintain Cawood credibility by always portraying a positive image, keeping equipment and PPE clean. 
• Respect company equipment and use as per guidelines. Report any damage to management as soon as possible.
• Work as a team and maintaining morale and actively offer help and assistance wherever possible.
