Acorns Childrens Hospice are now looking for a Family Practitioner to join our Family Services Team in Our Walsall Hospice. Our Family Practitioners provide specialist psychosocial support to families both pre and post bereavement.

About the Role

At Acorns Children’s Hospice we offer specialist palliative care and support for children and their families across the West Midlands. We are there wherever and whenever they need us, in the hospice, community and at home. Our aim at Acorns is to help families feel equipped to cope at every stage of their child’s life with dedicated teams offering psychological, emotional and practical support.

As a Family Practitioner, you will:

Provide ongoing holistic psychosocial, bereavement and end-of-life support to families at home, hospice or other appropriate environment.
Carry out initial holistic needs assessments
Provide a range of face-to-face therapeutic work (including group work)
Co-ordinate additional support for parents, siblings, and relatives as they face the grieving process
Work collaboratively with other professionals to ensure an integrated approach
Maintain your own professional development and professional registration
The role is as wide reaching as it is rewarding. You’ll liaise extensively with external providers and experts across Acorns, supporting families from diverse cultural and social settings across the region. Some, you’ll get to know over several years. Others could be suddenly admitted for an all-too-brief stay with us. Irrespectively, meeting their needs will be professionally invaluable and personally unforgettable.

About You

This is an ideal role for someone in family-centred social care or nursing in the community. You may have experience of working as a social worker, Bereavement Counsellor, Psychologist, Nurse, or Family Support Worker. You must:

Be professionally registered with a degree
Have experience of managing caseloads in a complex multi-agency environment
Have a broad, varied background or work in a community setting
Have up-to-date child protection knowledge, good assessment skills and the emotional resilience to support families going through loss and bereavement
We’re driven by children’s needs, so you should be able to travel independently across the region, be flexible about hours and ready to join an on-call rota.

We are looking for an Events Manager to develop and deliver the Acorns calendar, identifying fundraising events across the year. This role is offered on a 12-month fixed term basis (maternity cover).

About the Role

Acorns is currently the UK’s largest children’s hospice charity, in terms of both numbers of children and families supported and annual expenditure on our care work. We need to raise more than £11 million each year to run and support our care services and we rely heavily on the goodwill and generosity of our local community.

As Events Manager, you will:

Lead, coordinate and organise both Acorns events and third party events
Attend organised events, managing the day and attendees
Create event project plans, reviewing feasibility and budgets and producing post-event analysis
Work with the Marketing team to develop marketing plans
Ensure the highest levels of customer care to all event participants before, during and after events
Provide line management of the Events Officers

Acorns Children’s Hospice Trust are now looking for a Community Shop Manager for our Dudley Shop to lead a team of volunteers, achieve set targets and to maintain standards. You’ll work 37.5 hours per week, including some weekend working.

About the Role

Acorns have a network of shops across the West Midlands and Gloucestershire. Our shops generate a substantial level of income and goodwill to enable us to care for children and their families.

Our focus is around empowering volunteers to maximise their potential within our shops. The Community Shop Manager has the freedom to make local decisions to drive their business within their community, to encourage volunteer and donor support, and to act as an entrepreneur to maximise every sales opportunity available. The role of Community Shop Manager is at the forefront of Acorns role within the community.

As the leader of your shop, you’ll create an exciting shop floor experience that makes Acorns stand out from our competitors. You’ll make local decisions about the quality of stock, levels of pricing and style of merchandising, leading a team of volunteers to uphold these standards. You’ll review sales reports from the EPOS system, analyse and make decisions based on the data and trends these reports show.

You’ll provide inspired leadership and motivation for a team of volunteers and maximise the potential of every individual within your shop by understanding their skills and experiences, and utilising them to reach their full potential. You will grow and develop volunteers, including any appropriate ‘Key Volunteers’ to take responsibility for different departments and shop activities.

About You

You will be experienced in working towards targets and will strive to beat your agreed target for donated sales and gift aid. You’ll be IT literate as you’ll need to understand the data from our sales reporting system and analyse sales reports. You’ll have proven experience of leading and motivating a team of people. Previous experience of working with volunteers would be advantageous.

We want our Shop Managers to firmly embed their shop into the fabric of the local community by being proactive in assessing opportunities within the community for the shop to get involved in, so ideally you’ll be based in the local area.

You’ll be happy to work weekends and enjoy a role that involves significant levels of manual handing. You should have the ability to travel independently throughout the organisation to cover shops and attend area meetings

Stock Drivers support the stock logistics process for both core and furniture shops to drive income and to provide support when necessary to stock management processes.

Location: Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre (B37 5TS)

Hours: 22.5 hours per week

Main Duties:

To support the distribution of stock from shop to shop
To collect and deliver stock from donors and customers
To support your line manager to manage processes for the effective collection, delivery and processing of goods associated with the shops
To manage a team of Driver’s Mates that is safe, and customer-focused within a supportive environment
We are looking for persons that are:

Are physically fit and able to lift items that may at times be heavy
