Materials Specialist-(Ordnance Services)

Administers production control, inventory control, shipping and receiving of ordnance type materials/ assets. Checks materials for damage and verifies DODIC, Lot number,  quantity, national stock number, and serial number of shipped ordnance items. Records and prepares status reports of requested and received items. Under general supervision, and occasional direct supervision, performs assignments requiring experience and knowledge of standard concepts within their field. Displays core job competencies by analyzing possible solutions using standard Operating procedures while developing advanced skills. Skills required for this job are typically acquired through the completion of an undergraduate degree and 5+ years of experience, or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree.

Must have or be able to obtain a U.S. Secret Clearance.

Additional requirements:

• 3-5 years of experience in various Ordnance or Ammunition roles performed while assigned to Navy / Marine/Army or Air Force, munitions /ordnance organizations.

Job Summary

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will analyze malfunctions and repair, rebuild and maintain power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors and pneumatic tools.  This includes duties such as…

• Operate and inspect machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmission, and test overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency.
• Weld broken parts and structural members may direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment, and may repair, adjust and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines.
• Monitors work of less experienced mechanics
• Provides technical assistance in diagnosing problems beyond the capacity of assigned personnel

Title:

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Performs the most technical and complex duties involved in the maintenance and repair of diesel engines and gasoline and diesel driven material handling and construction equipment such as 50 Ton hydraulic cranes, container handlers, 10k forklifts, tractors, power shovels, road machinery, air compressors, concrete mixers and other engine driven or towed construction equipment. Trouble shoot and repair to MVAC system.  Must be able to lift 50 pounds.  Performs operator, intermediate and limited major rebuild levels of maintenance which includes spot painting. High school graduate or equivalent.  Six years of directly related work experience.  Complete the Basic Engineer Program Mechanics Course, or equivalent.  Complete MVAC course and hold a valid certificate. Accurately records/reports maintenance actions using applicable maintenance data collection. Resolves group and customer issues, seeks to improve the overall productivity of the department, anticipates problems and initiates appropriate actions to eliminate them.

Ability to create calibration procedures when required.

Tactically supports the responsibilities of Property that impact the Aero site's business system compliance, which affects the ability of the site to qualify, perform, and invoice Government contracts.

Roles and Responsibilities

Actively support the sites Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) audits, and Self-Assessment

requirements in accordance with the Property Outcomes and Requirements identified within the Federal

Acquisition Regulation (FAR), specifically FAR 45 and 52.245-1.

Support Property objectives, work plans, and delivery schedules of Property Functions.

Actively build relationships and depth of knowledge within the Government and customer asset management communities.

Actively support and ensure execution of corrective action plans.

Support the tracking and compilation of metric data and Property Management Self-Assessment data.

Support cross functional groups to assure Property Compliance Practices, Policies and Standards are

adhered to.

Actively participate with site stakeholders to implement process changes affecting cross functional

groups.

Basic Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED. 
  • In lieu of formal education, 5 years of directly related experience.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Professional Property Specialist (CPPS) certification from the National Property Management Association (NPMA) or ability to obtain within 1 year from your date of hire.

• Familiarity with Asset Tracking databases, e.g., and/or eQuip.
• Strong PC skills especially with Microsoft Office Applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

The Automotive Worker (Mech II) will:

• Perform a variety of minor repairs and services to maintain motor vehicles.

• Place and maintain decals on vehicles

• Check and replace batteries.

• Rotate, repair, and replace tires.

• Wash, polish, and clean interiors and exteriors of vehicles.

• Drain, flush, and replace engines, transmissions, and differential grease and oils.

• Check, clean, calibrate, and replace spark plugs.

• Clean and replace oil and air filters.

• Replace windshield wipers, and similar minor parts.

• Assist on major overhaul jobs by disassembling and cleaning parts.

• Maintain maintenance records and documentation in accordance with government regulations and local policies.

• Properly use, store, account for, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste used and generated in the performance of duties.

• Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations and procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous materials.

• Handle movement of materiel and assets with forklifts and dollies.

• Upon notification from the government, deploy to support issuing or receipt of equipment.

• At times wear personal protective equipment such as, hearing and eye protection, hard hat and steel-toed boots as well as Individual Protective Equipment (IPE) which may include but not limited to Level III plus/IV Individual Body Armor with both front and back ballistic plates, ACH helmet, clothing (undergarments, shirts and pants and/or coveralls), reflective vests/belts, sound suppression devices, etc.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Work on this schedule: Monday - Thursday, 6:30am - 5:00pm (OT/weekends as required during ship cycle).

REQUIREMENTS

• Must be a U.S. Citizen with a valid U.S. Passport.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC)

• Must meet deployment qualifications and maintain deployable status.

• Must obtain and maintain local base access.

• Requires at least 4 years of directly related work experience.

Responsibilities

Responsible for supporting and maintaining all USAP temporary and permanent infrastructure and equipment. Allocation of offices and furniture, food services, janitorial, painting, structural floor coverings, interior and exterior finishes, electrical services, locksmith services, plumbing, move services and maintenance or repair activities.

For maintenance projects, the candidate shall be familiar with project performance analysis, cost and contract management, and risk analysis/mitigation for the purpose of general management, as well as detection and notification of problems.

Ensure facility operations and maintenance activities are performed in a safe manner through proper job planning, identification and supply of PPE, and routine inspections.

 Provide site coordination with construction contractors executing capital projects on the ice to minimize impacts to operations.

Maintain and update a technical library including O&M technical manuals, facilities descriptive books, and a submittal register of NSF-approved materials and finishes. Provide pertinent information for timely updates to facility as-built documents.

Support Master Planning for McMurdo and major logistics platforms on a ten-year rolling basis. Including identify deferred maintenance, changing requirements and technologies to reduce life-cycle costs, and evaluate alternatives and cost estimates related to infrastructure recapitalization to guide NSF decisions.

Support planning, design including risk identification, and execution of major construction projects in the Antarctic Infrastructure Recapitalization (AIR) program, as well as additional MREFC-scale projects as assigned. In executing construction projects, the candidate shall support the team in minimizing negative impacts on science support to the extent possible.

Support pre-deployment verification and validation to ensure that infrastructure components, hardware/software, and equipment are appropriately verified as functionally ready to perform under the austere and potentially harsh conditions of the Antarctic.
