We are looking for a highly motivated nurse, interested in helping to improve patient treatment outcomes for patients affected by lymphoma. Research nursing is an exciting and developing role, supported through the R&I division with a good education and development package in place to ensure that staff reach their potential.

This post presents an excellent opportunity to join the establishing and Lymphoma Research team with a varied portfolio of early and late clinical trials.

Central to this role is the responsibility of assessing and managing the care pathways including the delivery of all specified treatments for participants in research within a multidisciplinary team. Key responsibilities of the post include the co-ordination of the trial protocols and support for patient affected by lymphoma.

A background in oncology, flexibility in working, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Experience in clinical research and/or haematological malignancies would be desirable.

This advert is currently for a 12-month fixed contract as a maternity cover with a view to extend at the end of the post according to staffing at the time. This will be a band 5- 6 progression post. Competencies to be achieved for progression from band 5 to 6 will be focused on research delivery in oncology. This will include training sessions and work-based assessment.

As a Clinical Research Nurse (CRN), you will be providing patient-centred insights to the research delivery team by supporting both the patients and the team through all aspects of clinical research of the Lymphoma portfolio.

You will be involved in every stage of the portfolio activities including feasibility reviews and set-up of and new trials. Patient recruitment and management is a key part of the role, including the administration of complex treatment regimes. You will be supporting team with data query resolution and reviewing protocol amendments.

You will be required to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, possess strong motivation and have the ability to work independently.

With support from the team the CRN will ensure that the safety and wellbeing of the patients is maintained within the requirement of the multi-regulatory frameworks for clinical research ensuring compliance with ICH/GCP standards and Trust SOPs.

You will be able to raise the profile of the clinical research nurse and clinical trials within the trust by engaging in promotional events relating to clinical research with attendance and contributions at local, national and international meetings. As part of the role, you will need to demonstrate awareness and contribution to divisional, Trust and national objectives and strategies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Clinical Research Co-ordination

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Research and Innovation Division at The Christie. We are looking to appoint a Senior Clinical Research Nurse to the Lung research delivery team within The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

This post presents an opportunity to join an established research team with a varied portfolio of clinical trials as a Senior Clinical Research Nurse (sCRN). The Lung cancer research team is responsible for a varied portfolio of academic and commercial clinical trials.

Key responsibilities of the post include supporting the coordination of the patient’s pathway through an agreed portfolio of clinical trials across Lung. Excellent communications skills in all forms are required for this role for difficult clinical conversations with patients and their families. Experience of line management and excellent leadership skills are required.

The successful candidate will be someone with excellent organisational, time management, leadership skills to be the key contact for patients and wider MDT who are being considered for Lung clinical trials.

This position involves leading and managing a group of research nurses while supporting the Research Nurse Team Leader. are 4 plastic surgeons, 2 clinical oncologists, 4 medical oncologists and a large clinical research team.
The oncology team covers a population of > 3.5 million and sees approximately 2250 new patients a
year with high risk primary or advanced disease. The team is a major contributor to clinical research
at a national and international level. We work closely with colleagues in the CRUK Manchester
Institute, one of 3 CRUK Super Centres in the UK, and with colleagues at the University of
Manchester (, Dr Adam Hurlstone). Manchester Cancer Research Centre has prioritised melanoma
as one of six areas in which it will be internationally leading in research.
The post will offer experience in cutting edge research in personalised medicine and
immunotherapy, Early Phase trials methodology and conduct, and experience in managing complex
cases in an academic tertiary care centre with an international reputation. In addition, there are
ongoing projects inn toxicity management, late effects and on the use of big data and interrogation
of national data-sets. It is expected the successful applicant will publish a number of papers as a
result of their attachment, and there will be an opportunity to develop novel research projects.

3. Clinics: the Clinical Fellow will be required to support research and NHS clinics, typically 4
clinics per week: examples - Monday am (treatment and research), Monday pm (new and
follow-up), Wednesday pm (new, FU and treatments), Thursday (new). .
4. Protocols: the post holder will be expected to revise and develop evidence based protocols
for patients. He/she will be expected to undertake the administrative duties associated with
the care of these patients.
5. Professional Development: He/she will maintain a level of continuing professional
development consistent with the recommendations of the Royal College of Physicians.
Appropriate arrangements for study leave will be made in conjunction with colleagues. A
fund, administered by the Director of Service for the support of study leave exists within the
Trust. The post holder will also be required to undergo an appraisal.
6. Junior Doctor Training: the post holder will be expected to contribute actively to the training
of ST1 & 2s in medical oncology and of medical students form the University of Manchester
The post holder will also be expected to help in the training of nursing and multidisciplinary
staff in both inpatient and outpatient departments.
7. Clinical Governance: the post holder will be expected to participate in all relevant aspects of
clinical governance, including maintaining up to date protocols, guidelines and clinical audit,
under the supervision of the other consultants in the unit.
8. Audit: the appointee will play a full role in clinical audit as a member of the Christie Hospital
Medical Staff.
9. Research: there are excellent opportunities for research within the department. The
appointee will be encouraged to contribute to current research projects within the unit
and/or set up new projects in consultation with supervisors. Successful candidates will be

We are looking to appoint a Clinical Research Nurse (Band 6) in the Renal and Oesophagogastric Research team within The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will have either oncology or research experience.

The successful candidate will be working with an established research team with a large and varied portfolio of phase I to phase III studies. The post holder will care for patients with gastric or oesophageal cancer who are receiving systemic anti-cancer treatments and/or radiotherapy within a clinical trial and work alongside a team of consultants, clinical fellows, clinical research nurses and clinical trial administrators.

While we are looking to recruit a full-time (37.5 hours/ 5days) Clinical Research Nurse to support our busy team, we would consider applicants wanting part-time hours.

As a Clinical Research Nurse working within the Renal and Oesophagogastric team, you will be the lead research nurse of your own portfolio of clinical trials as well as acting as the key point of contact for patients. Your day-to-day role will include supporting clinical trial recruitment, co-ordination of care and organisation of treatment, supporting patients while they receive treatment within a clinical trial, acting as key point of contact for clinical trial sponsors and clinical research organisations and data entry.

The Renal and Oesophagogastric team works on studies including early phase, biomarker trials, real-world data, IMP trials, radiotherapy trials and will eventually be involved in innovative proton beam trials. We're looking for a full time Band 5 Clinical Research Practitioner to coordinate and deliver clinical research studies at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who can contribute to the development of clinical research for people with cancer within the Rare Tumours Research Team. Our team work with Teenagers and Young Adults (TYA) and an interest in TYA would be an advantage. We look after patients with rare cancers including patients with CNS tumours and Sarcomas.

We have an extensive portfolio of trials, NIHR academic and commercial clinical trials, covering these disease groups. The role of the CRP will involve recruiting patients to these clinical trials, obtaining informed consent where appropriate, supporting patients enrolled in clinical trials, and ensuring study interventions are completed according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Trust standards.

The specific responsibilities will depend on the requirements of each team, but may include:

Clinical Research Delivery & Co-ordination

· To act as a primary contact point for the clinical trial patients for defined clinical trials and act as adviser to other health care professionals.

· Interview, recruit, take informed consent and support patients and carers in clinical trials/studies. This involves educating patients on the trials involved, explaining the advantages and disadvantages of taking part in trials, whilst always remaining unbiased.

· Ensure the provision of optimal patient care by alerting appropriate clinical colleagues when referral to other members of the MDT may be required.

· Be responsible for the safe and accurate collection of research samples and data, through clinical procedures such as venepuncture, and history taking, standard observations and other assessments including questionnaires, rated scales, qualitative interviewing as required by the protocol.

A 1- year fellowship has been created to allow the successful candidate to gain specialist training in advanced radiotherapy. The particular emphasis of this fellowship will be towards the technological advances in Radiation Oncology. The fellowship will allow the candidate to gain in depth experience in advanced radiotherapy techniques such as IMRT (intensity-modulated radiotherapy) and advanced image-guided radiotherapy using the MR-Linac. They will play a part in improving treatment-decision making for patients with locally advanced Non-Small Cell Lung cancer (NSCLC) by identifying biomarkers that can be used to stratify patients in future clinical trials. A range of high- quality data has already been collected in the VIGILANCE study including ctDNA patterns, radiomics features from imaging and electronic patient reported outcome measures (ePROMs). Their role will be part of our overall strategy to make more use of routinely collected data to personalise treatment approaches and improve patient outcomes for all.

This position is suitable for individuals who wish to gain specialist training in advanced radiotherapy research. The post holder is required to have obtained a FRCR qualification or equivalent prior to commencing this post.
This post is for 40 hours per week to provide support for the appropriate clinics and research that is taking place in the department of Radiotherapy Related Research Group.
The post holder will also play an active role in the recruitment of patients onto lung cancer clinical trials and in all aspects of care for patients enrolled on these trials. They will work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary teams and will support the consultants, clinical fellows, specialist registrars, and clinical research nurses in managing the clinical trial portfolio of the Lung Cancer Research Team.

It is anticipated the post-holder will attend appropriate clinics per week (a maximum of one research and one NHS clinics), and multidisciplinary meetings. In addition, they will participate in clinical research meetings and any other relevant trial planning or trial set-up meetings. The post-holder will also spend time analysing clinical data, writing abstracts/manuscripts, planning new studies and attending educational meetings.

The Lung team comprises 9 Consultants, 2 Sub-specialty Trainee and 2 Clinical Fellows. We are supported by a team of 4 Clinical Nurse Specialists. We have a team of 8 research radiographers led by a team leader who implement radiotherapy (RT) clinical trials including access to advanced technologies such as MR-Linac and protons.
On average, the team can be managing 20 recruiting studies and 20 studies in follow-up with Principal Investigators across clinical oncology and surgery.
We have access to a National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Facility on-site. This facility gives us access to a dedicated unit to treat patients on trials and a research laboratory to process clinical
The Radiotherapy Related Research department has world-leading collaborative researchers in RT immunology, radiobiology, biomarkers, pre-clinical drug RT combination studies, RT physics, computational oncology and Proton Beam Therapy. Its ambition is to drive Phase I-III clinical trials with state-of-the art radiotherapy, alongside imaging and biological prognostic and predictive biomarker development including genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics.

Duties

1. Recruit patients for the VIGILANCE study, analyse the data and present the findings. This role also involved conducting translational research in collaboration with CRUK National Biomarker Centre.
2. Work with other clinical oncologists, physicians, radiotherapy planning specialists, physicists, methodologists, and statisticians to ensure a collaborative working
3. Be involved in the clinical management of lung cancer patients receiving radiotherapy environment.
4. Interact with allied research activities.

Clinical Research Fellow in hepatopancreaticobiliary and neuroendocrine neoplasms

This role will allow senior medical trainees to work within the hepatopancreaticobiliary and neuroendocrine neoplasm disease group at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. This coordinated research expansion plan sits under the umbrella of the Systemic Therapy Research Group, which aims to substantially increase research output within the Department of Medical Oncology, through increased delivery of innovative investigator-led studies driven by The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. A key part of this process is to encourage education and empowerment of research staff at all levels, which includes training the next generation of cancer research leaders.
• These positions are suitable for enthusiastic and research-motivated applicants with a Medical degree, who are pursuing a career in Medical Oncology and have an interest in gaining further research and clinical trial experience in Hepatopancreaticobiliary and neuroendocrine neoplasms.

Candidates must hold full General Medical Council (GMC) registration and have International English Language Testing System (IELTS) proficiency at the time of post commencement, as appropriate. This Fellowship is a two year, full-time position, to support clinical research in this disease group and to provide specialist experience and training in the relevant disease areas for the successful applicants.

The disease sites treated by the hepatopancreaticobiliary and neuroendocrine disease group include hepatocellular carcinoma, pancreas cancer, biliary tract cancers [cholangiocarcinoma and gallbladder cancer] and neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs). The group has an active clinical research programme (Phase I-III), with close links with basic research laboratories in the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute. There are around 500 new patient HPB/NEN referrals received per year and approximately 25% of all patients are entered into clinical trials.

This group has an international reputation in the treatment of patients with NENs and is accredited as a Centre of Excellence by the European NET Society (ENETS). The fellow will have the opportunity to gain clinical experience in the management of patients with a HPB and NEN diagnosis in this world-leading specialist centre. In addition, the candidate will be encouraged and supported to become actively involved in the research activities of the unit and to undertake audits, service evaluation or quality improvement projects, develop proposals for grant applications and become involved in on-going clinical and translational research, and will be encouraged to develop their own projects and clinical trials, with the goal of presenting this work in abstract (national and international) and manuscript form.

Key accountabilities

Clinical Research fellows will have the following opportunities within the Department of Medical Oncology:
• Audit:Fellows play a key role in Clinical Audit as a member of The Christie Medical staff.
• Clinics: Research fellows in Medical Oncology usually attend a number of outpatient clinics per week (seeing new referrals, follow-ups and patients on clinical trials) and are expected to undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of these patients.
• Clinical Governance:Fellows are expected to participate in all relevant aspects of clinical governance, including maintaining up-to-date protocols, guidelines and clinical audit, under the supervision of the Consultants in the disease group.

• Professional Development: Fellows should also maintain a level of continuing professional development consistent with the recommendations of the Royal College of Physicians. We are looking for highly motivated nurse to join the Experimental Cancer Medicine Team (ECMT) at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. ECMT supports a growing portfolio of early phase research studies both commercial and investigator led, including first in human drug trials.

The post holder will work alongside a team of physicians, research nurses & clinical trial administrators on a portfolio of trials providing support to patients, administering trial treatments & carrying out trial assessments for patients on study.
