We are inviting applicants for the post of Clinical Research Fellow in Urogynaecology. Candidates should be highly motivated to undertake a postgraduate degree and they will be expected to register (and self-fund) an MPhil with the University of Manchester, with the potential to convert this to an MD degree, depending on academic progress. These are also clinical posts and candidates should be at a level expected of an ST3+ trainee. The split between academic and clinical time is 60%/40%. Candidates who are successful at interview will be expected to apply for Out of Program Research (OOPR) if they are currently in a training post.



This post is ideally suited towards candidates considering future subspecialty training in urogynaecology, whilst maintaining clinical skills through working in busy tertiary and secondary care settings.

The Research post will involve a mixed methods evaluation of women who have sustained complications of polypropylene mesh. There will be a qualitative study to understand their lived experience of mesh complications. There will also be an observational study which will investigate the potential cause of the pain some women experience following polypropylene mesh continence procedures.

The Clinical Research Fellow will be supervised by a team of consultants. The Clinical Research Fellow will need to respect the roles of others within a multidisciplinary team and communicate with them appropriately.

The weekly timetable will vary from week to week. The clinical component may include sessions in Urogynaecology outpatients, urogynaecology theatre and ward rounds, or other specialist sessions. Research days are usually fixed.

We are looking to appoint a Clinical Research Nurse (Band 6) in the Renal and Oesophagogastric Research team within The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will have either oncology or research experience.

The successful candidate will be working with an established research team with a large and varied portfolio of phase I to phase III studies. The post holder will care for patients with gastric or oesophageal cancer who are receiving systemic anti-cancer treatments and/or radiotherapy within a clinical trial and work alongside a team of consultants, clinical fellows, clinical research nurses and clinical trial administrators.

While we are looking to recruit a full-time (37.5 hours/ 5days) Clinical Research Nurse to support our busy team, we would consider applicants wanting part-time hours.

As a Clinical Research Nurse working within the Renal and Oesophagogastric team, you will be the lead research nurse of your own portfolio of clinical trials as well as acting as the key point of contact for patients. Your day-to-day role will include supporting clinical trial recruitment, co-ordination of care and organisation of treatment, supporting patients while they receive treatment within a clinical trial, acting as key point of contact for clinical trial sponsors and clinical research organisations and data entry.

You will work closely with and be supported by the Senior Clinical Research Nurse as well as the other Clinical Research Nurses on the team. You will be provided with a comprehensive training and supernumerary period to support your learning for this role.

The Renal and Oesophagogastric team works on studies including early phase, biomarker trials, real-world data, IMP trials, radiotherapy trials and will eventually be involved in innovative proton beam trials. The Christie’s research teams contribute towards pioneering research and innovation and we constantly work towards improving cancer care and patient outcomes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Research Co-ordination

· Work autonomously in all areas of practice relating to clinical research.

· Understand and deliver care in accordance with regulatory approved clinical research protocols.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 12 month fixed term contract or secondment for an experienced Healthcare Scientist/ practitioner to join the team in the Sleep Service, Trafford General Hospital, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

The role is to support the sleep service in its delivery of a high-quality service both in the main sleep service and at our Community Diagnostic Centre based at Withington Community Hospital.
The Sleep Service is a modern dynamic unit servicing a large area of the North West. It has a CPAP user base of over 8,000 patients and provides a wide range of services including diagnosis and treatment of non-respiratory sleep disorders. It is actively involved in the teaching of students on the PTP and STP courses at Manchester Metropolitan University.



The position will involve:

Performing, analysing and reporting on in-patient and outpatient sleep studies (including respiratory polygraphy, full video polysomnography, multiple sleep latency testing, maintenance of wakefulness testing and actigraphy).

Initiating treatment with CPAP and the follow-up of these patients using agreed protocols in both face-to-face and telephone clinics.

Teaching, training and mentoring of students and junior staff.

The service encourages and supports flexible working but the successful applicant will be expected to cover evening shifts on a rotating roster. The successful applicant will also be expected to travel to work at either Trafford General Hospital, or the Community Diagnostic Centre based at Withington Community Hospital (WTWA) as service demands require.

We're looking for a full time Band 5 Clinical Research Practitioner to coordinate and deliver clinical research studies at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who can contribute to the development of clinical research for people with cancer within the Rare Tumours Research Team. Our team work with Teenagers and Young Adults (TYA) and an interest in TYA would be an advantage. We look after patients with rare cancers including patients with CNS tumours and Sarcomas.

We have an extensive portfolio of trials, NIHR academic and commercial clinical trials, covering these disease groups. The role of the CRP will involve recruiting patients to these clinical trials, obtaining informed consent where appropriate, supporting patients enrolled in clinical trials, and ensuring study interventions are completed according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Trust standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The specific responsibilities will depend on the requirements of each team, but may include:

Clinical Research Delivery & Co-ordination

· To act as a primary contact point for the clinical trial patients for defined clinical trials and act as adviser to other health care professionals.

· Interview, recruit, take informed consent and support patients and carers in clinical trials/studies. This involves educating patients on the trials involved, explaining the advantages and disadvantages of taking part in trials, whilst always remaining unbiased.

· Ensure the provision of optimal patient care by alerting appropriate clinical colleagues when referral to other members of the MDT may be required.

The Radiotherapy Related Research department has world-leading collaborative researchers in RT immunology, radiobiology, biomarkers, pre-clinical drug RT combination studies, RT physics, computational oncology and Proton Beam Therapy. Its ambition is to drive Phase I-III clinical trials with state-of-the art radiotherapy, alongside imaging and biological prognostic and predictive biomarker development including genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics.

Duties

1. Recruit patients for the VIGILANCE study, analyse the data and present the findings. This role also involved conducting translational research in collaboration with CRUK National Biomarker Centre.

Clinical Research Fellow in hepatopancreaticobiliary and neuroendocrine neoplasms

This role will allow senior medical trainees to work within the hepatopancreaticobiliary and neuroendocrine neoplasm disease group at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. This coordinated research expansion plan sits under the umbrella of the Systemic Therapy Research Group, which aims to substantially increase research output within the Department of Medical Oncology, through increased delivery of innovative investigator-led studies driven by The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. A key part of this process is to encourage education and empowerment of research staff at all levels, which includes training the next generation of cancer research leaders.
• These positions are suitable for enthusiastic and research-motivated applicants with a Medical degree, who are pursuing a career in Medical Oncology and have an interest in gaining further research and clinical trial experience in Hepatopancreaticobiliary and neuroendocrine neoplasms.

Candidates must hold full General Medical Council (GMC) registration and have International English Language Testing System (IELTS) proficiency at the time of post commencement, as appropriate. This Fellowship is a two year, full-time position, to support clinical research in this disease group and to provide specialist experience and training in the relevant disease areas for the successful applicants.

The disease sites treated by the hepatopancreaticobiliary and neuroendocrine disease group include hepatocellular carcinoma, pancreas cancer, biliary tract cancers [cholangiocarcinoma and gallbladder cancer] and neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs). The group has an active clinical research programme (Phase I-III), with close links with basic research laboratories in the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute. There are around 500 new patient HPB/NEN referrals received per year and approximately 25% of all patients are entered into clinical trials.

This group has an international reputation in the treatment of patients with NENs and is accredited as a Centre of Excellence by the European NET Society (ENETS). The fellow will have the opportunity to gain clinical experience in the management of patients with a HPB and NEN diagnosis in this world-leading specialist centre. In addition, the candidate will be encouraged and supported to become actively involved in the research activities of the unit and to undertake audits, service evaluation or quality improvement projects, develop proposals for grant applications and become involved in on-going clinical and translational research, and will be encouraged to develop their own projects and clinical trials, with the goal of presenting this work in abstract (national and international) and manuscript form.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



Clinical Research Co-ordination

· Work under supervision in all areas of practice relating to clinical research.

· Understand and deliver care in accordance with regulatory approved clinical research protocols.

· Understand the process for obtaining NHS permissions (R&D approval) and for conducting clinical trials at site.

· Has an awareness of the requirement to ensure that all clinical trial activities are recorded in appropriate systems in a timely manner.

· Support the research team with the conduct of studies within set competencies and in accordance with regulatory approved clinical research protocols.

· Attend clinical trial related meetings where appropriate.



Clinical Service and Professional Responsibilities

· With the oversight of a senior clinical research nurse understand protocol design and be able to deliver care in accordance with a clinical trial protocol.

· Support patients and their carers when receiving complex and sensitive information in relation to their treatment and prognosis.

· Demonstration of research knowledge when caring for patients receiving treatment within the context of a clinical trial protocol.

· Report incidents using hospital systems and be aware of appropriate health and safety policies to refer as required.

· To act as a contact point for the clinical trial patients and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

· Responsible for maintenance and development of professional knowledge and practice by attending mandatory and specialist training in accordance with local policy.

· Deliver care in accordance with trial protocol, local policy, NMC Code of Practice Conduct, GCP and current best practice.

· Maintenance of a high-quality service by:

Ø The safe administration of all licensed and unlicensed medicinal products within the context of a clinical trial.

Ø The assessment and evaluation of treatment toxicities + escalation of concerns as appropriate

· Assist in the provision of education and support for non-research staff in the delivery of protocol driven treatment for all patients.

· Participate in monitoring and audit activities within research team as required

· Have an awareness of the risk assessment process in relation to clinical trials.

Personal Education, Training and Development

· Maintain professional development whilst evaluating own specialist knowledge and practice through a process of appraisal, reflective practice and personal development planning.

· Support senior colleagues in raising awareness of the role of the clinical research nurse as an integral part of the healthcare system.

· Maintain awareness of current advances in cancer treatments, research and nursing practice thereby maintaining the highest standard of care for patients with cancer and implementing evidence-based care by continuing professional development.

· Participation in trust-wide education programmes and study days.

· Obtain clinical supervision as appropriate.

· To keep up to date with departmental, Trust, UK and EU developments for the management of clinical research ensuring timely, effective implementation of changes.

· Attendance at team and clinical research nurse meetings.



Staff Management and Development

· Support the development of specialist study days within own research team.

· Assist in the provision of specialist education and training in relation to clinical trials to all key stakeholders including student nurses.

· Disseminate information by attendance and /or presentations at meetings where appropriate.

· Contribute to the development of members of the research team
