Research Project Support Officer in Marine Environmental History/Marine Historical Ecology

Applications are invited for a fixed-term full-time Research Project Support Officer in Marine Environmental History/Marine Historical Ecology in the School of Ocean Sciences as part of a cross-disciplinary research project integrating history and marine ecology to inform modern-day sustainable fisheries and marine ecosystem management.

Duties will include assisting in: the organisation and performance of a variety of desk-based research, with an emphasis on data collection and management; research work with primary historical sources/in archives; fieldwork interviewing fishers and other stakeholders; extracting data from a range of historical and biological/environmental sources; and organising workshops and stakeholder engagement.

Candidates should be educated to degree standard (or equivalent) in either history/environmental history or related fields (e.g. archaeology, geography, history of science) OR natural sciences (inc. ecology, marine biology, fisheries).

The successful candidate will be expected to commence on 1st November 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter and the post is available for 24 months.

This role will be located in the School of Ocean Sciences in Menai Bridge. Postdoctoral Research Associate in Space Reactor Fuel Development

Applications are invited for a temporary 12-month, full time Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) in Space Reactor Fuel Development working in the School of Computer Science and Engineering's Nuclear Futures Institute, working with Rolls-Royce and the UK Space Agency.

Duties will include developing novel material manufacturing processes based on chemical vapour deposition methods for materials to be used within a power generating space micro-reactor. In addition to the manufacture aspect of the project, non-destructive testing analysis of the material forms produced will be assessed. The duties will also include dissemination of information and the attendance of regular meetings with key stakeholders.

Candidates will have a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or a similar engineering discipline (or be close to completion) or possess equivalent experience relevant to the role and have previous experience in manufacturing of materials, ideally nuclear fuels but not limited to those with nuclear experience.

Candidates will have experimental experience in material manufacture, particularly related to composite ceramic/metallic (CERMET) materials. Applicants with experience using advanced deposition methods (including vapour deposition) will be looked upon favourably but training may be provided for those who do not possess the expertise. Similarly, training can be provided to those who do not have experience working with uranic materials in a research capacity.

The successful candidate will be expected to commence as soon as possible.

Bangor University is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to its Centre for Health Economics and Medicines Evaluation (CHEME). Applications are invited from post-doctoral researchers with a record of research accomplishments to join the Pharmaceutical Economics, Policy and Prescribing Research (PEPPER) group within CHEME.

This post offers an excellent opportunity for career development and progression, with the successful candidate gaining experience by assessing the cost-effectiveness of health technologies alongside clinical trials. Research will focus initially on personalising treatment to improve kidney health in people living with heart failure.

The successful candidate will be a motivated Lecturer who will contribute to teaching at undergraduate and MSc level, run tutorials and support field courses, conservation degrees and project students as appropriate. The successful candidate will join the dynamic conservation science group at Bangor University.

Be responsible for promoting the appropriate referral and recruitment of patients to clinical research studies. Work with research teams and investigators to develop strategies to overcome barriers to recruitment and to solve other problems relating to specific studies. Coordinate and run study visits including off site visits whilst adhering to the lone worker policy. Work with other departments within the UHB to ensure that trial specific investigations and procedures are undertaken as required by the trial protocol, in order to establish eligibility and safety of patients within research. Contribute to the accurate costing for research studies and appropriate negotiation of required financial support to deliver studies. Ensure clear, accurate and concise records are kept for research projects in accordance with all regulatory requirements including the Data Protection Act. Ensure that data is transcribed accurately where required and assist with the maintenance of the Trial Master File. Respond to data queries generated by the study coordinating team within a timely manner. Ensure the recording & reporting of adverse and serious adverse events that occur whilst the participant is in the research study to the study co-coordinator/Principal Investigator (PI) and R&D office in line with the study protocol, local policies and regulatory requirements. Assess and evaluate the progress of on-going studies, maintaining accurate records of the status of studies and providing regular updates to the department on the status of the studies. This will involve ensuring that the Local Patient Management System (LPMS) is updated with key study data and validated efficiently. Escalate on-going study performance issues to the Senior Research Nurse/Team Lead. Co-operate with external and internal audit, data monitoring and quality assurance by working with R&D, sponsors, study monitors and external bodies. Assist in study close down and the preparation of results of research for presentation as posters, abstracts, papers or scientific presentations.

Applications are invited for a permanent Lecturer or Senior Lecturer working in Bangor University’s dynamic and world-leading Nuclear Futures Institute located in the College of Science and Engineering.

We wish to appoint an academic in mechanical engineering (at lecturer or senior lecturer level, depending on experience) who will complement our existing research interests (see www.nubu.nu) and be willing to engage in multi- and interdisciplinary collaborations across the School of Computer Science and Engineering and with our many national and international industry and national lab stakeholders.

Candidates should be educated to PhD standard (or equivalent) in mechanical engineering and have previous experience in industry and/or academia. We particularly encourage those who could contribute to research in one or more of the following: sustainable mechanical design, nuclear engineering, thermal hydraulics, and robotics and dynamic systems. Complementary skills in computational modelling, neutronics/physics modelling and machine learning are also welcomed.
