About the role

We are looking for a Grounds Maintenance Operative on a permanent basis to join our Environmental Services team. This role is based in Merseyside and successful candidates will work in local teams and are not required to report to a depot each day but attend when require for team meetings and replenishment of supplies.

The purpose of the role is to work as part of a mobile team to deliver a wide range of landscape maintenance and improvement works, resulting in a consistently high-quality environment, which improves our schemes and estates to create positive spaces for customers.

The Department of Tropical Disease Biology (TDB) is a leading national and international research and teaching department with a focus on translational research of tropical infectious diseases. We are seeking a dedicated Research Technician to join our dynamic team to contribute to groundbreaking research aimed at understanding and mitigating the impact of tropical diseases on vulnerable populations worldwide.

The successful candidate will join the team dedicated to investigating the infection pharmacology of various human pathogens relevant to human health, particularly in low- and middle-income country (LMIC) settings. The primary responsibility of this role is to support an ongoing Medical Research Council (MRC) funded project focused on elucidating the antimalarial mode of action of 8-aminoquinolines through a range of in vitro biochemical, cell biology, molecular, and infection-pharmacology experiments. Additionally, the successful applicant will contribute to similar laboratory investigations concerning the infection pharmacology and therapeutics of other significant human pathogens, including but not limited to Mycobacterium, SARS-CoV-2, and antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) bacterial pathogens.


Key role responsibilities include:


Technical responsibilities: Prepare, maintain, and store adequate laboratory records of methods, sample details and results; Provide an efficient and effective technical service to research teams; Conduct in vitro biochemical, cell biology, molecular, and infection-pharmacology experiments; Collaborate with researchers and scientists to design and execute experiments; Participate in laboratory management tasks.
Data Recording: Collate and assess data using excel, R and other appropriate software; Prepare written data reports and presentations for line manager and funders; Provide initial analysis of data and draft sections of reports and manuscripts.

This role will involve working in a team of 2 carrying out grounds maintenance tasks, the removal of fly tipping and general cleaning tasks including clearing of properties, replacing fencing, paving, landscaping and general caretaking duties across various sites in the North West. The role of Estate Technician will include:

Your new role
Your new role is a multi-skilled maintenance engineer on site, to ensure all machinery is running efficiently while minimising downtime. The role is very varied, working on a range of mechanical / electrical equipment across the site, maintaining all equipment through planned maintenance and reactive breakdowns.
You will have H+S standards at the forefront of all work, delivering to a high standard.
The site operates a 24/7 operation, and so this role operates around a 4 on 4 off shift pattern, working blocks of 4 days and then 4 nights of 12-hour shifts.

What you'll need to succeed
You will need a good background in engineering, ideally apprentice trained holding an HNC / NVQ or similar qualification
Experience working within the chemical, renewables, FMCG or oil/gas industry
Experience with ATEX and working within a hazardous environment is a real benefit to this position
You will have a good understanding of maintenance processes and activities.
Knowledge of maintenance management systems.

Following the recent expansion of our fleet, we have a fantastic opportunity at our Liverpool Regional Distribution Centre, Vehicle Maintenance Unit for an experienced Vehicle Technician to join our team.

We are Blue Rated Operator of over 400 trailers and over 100 powered vehicles which are all maintained internally at our state of the art 7 bay repair unit.

Our VMU is a 24 hour operation with over 20 technicians, apprentices and support staff. We have a modern fleet of vehicles and trailers to include Scania/Volvo diesel and CNG powered trucks. Our trailer fleet includes over 300 double deck trailers and 400 standard trailers all fitted with various types of tail lifts.

As a Vehicle Technician you will report to a Shift Supervisor and spend most of your time in the VMU as well as completing off site repairs. You will be part of a VMU team which delivers excellent service to our wider business and maintains the fleet to the highest standards, complying to all health and safety procedures as well as DVSA requirements.

Working closely with other members of the team as well as the wider VMU and Transport team, you will make sure resources are aligned and a smooth-running operation is achieved. We are looking for proactive individuals who can identify and resolve problems swiftly and who actively strive to continually improve team performance.

Job Overview

Our Vehicle Maintenance Technicians:

• Carry out preventative vehicle maintenance and servicing, MOT preparation and repairs to a high standard
• Inspect vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately, using computer-based diagnostic equipment
• Repair or replace broken or defective parts and resolve defects
• Road test vehicles to check repairs
• Maintain VMU equipment and working areas to a good, clean condition
• Use hand tools and general garage equipment
• Tail Lift maintenance and vehicle body work repairs, fabrication and basic welding processes
• Complete administrative tasks and reports as requested

Minimum Criteria To Apply

Essential

• Min 3 years’ proven experience as a Vehicle Technician with trailer maintenance experience
• Level 2 City & Guilds or BTECH National in HGV Motor Vehicle Engineering or equivalent UK recognised qualification
• UK Driving licence (HGV category an advantage)
• Experience in fault diagnostic equipment, e.g. Tech tool, MULTI/STAR and JAL and including trailer systems
• A desire for delivering the highest possible standards of work with respect to quality and compliance
• Must own standard tools - more specific tools will be provided

Desirable

• IRTEC inspection licence along with any tail lift inspection certification
• Main dealership experience
• Tail lift experience
