This post is to provide support to staff, students & members of the community within all types of Council properties.

To undertake all duties relating to the operation, security & maintenance of the building & surrounding grounds, ensuring facilities/equipment set up for users, reactive cleaning, portaging duties & litter picking duties. You will receive all the training required to carry out the Janitorial function.

Monday – Thursday 08:30 – 15:30 (1 hour unpaid each day)

We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised person to join our busy Science Faculty.

The role will involve:

• Preparing materials, equipment and science areas for use by teachers and students.
• Assisting in demonstrating the use of equipment and apparatus
• Designing and constructing equipment and apparatus for use in experiments.
• Maintaining an adequate range of stock and efficient stock levels. This includes maintenance of a stores system and completion of purchase orders for final approval by the Principal Teacher in line with Council Purchasing procedures.
• The postholder will also ensure that the stores are well organised and hazardous substances are labelled and kept in a safe place.
• Ensuring that materials and equipment are maintained in good order and in a safe condition.
• Ensuring that the preparation rooms, fume cupboards and laboratories are kept in a safe and tidy condition. Where applicable, may supervise Technician(s) and Learning Assistants within the Science Department and utilise the requisition system.
• Monitoring stock levels, reordering and issuing work sheets as required.
• Assisting the teaching staff in the support work necessary to prepare and operate TAPS/Standard Grade laboratories and computer aided teaching methods within the science area.
• Undertaking relevant administrative duties i.e. statistical returns, diaries, equipment lists and inventories etc.
• The post holder will undertake any other relevant duties, as required by the Principal Teacher, Business Manager or Headteacher.

Good working knowledge of IT systems both hardware and software is desirable.

Candidates may be asked to provide basic first aid. A suitable qualification in first aid or experience in this area along with a willingness to undertake any necessary training is desirable.

Trainee Field Technician responsibilities:
• To assist in detailed surveys to identify the type and location of water leakage
• Assist repair gangs by providing leak detection services
• Assist in survey work/project work not normally associated with day-to-day leak detection
• To assist in adequate and accurate completion of all paperwork (including time sheets, survey forms, leak details and other duties as required
• Possess basic computer skills as you will be uploading data onto a laptop
• It is essential that you hold a full and valid driving licence as you are required to drive for the role
Full training will be given on the following:
• EUSR Water Hygiene Training
• Unit 2 Street Works
This Trainee Field Technician role would suit candidates with the following:

Tynecastle High School is a six-year comprehensive secondary school which has served west-central Edinburgh with distinction for over 100 years. The school moved to a fantastic new site in January 2010 and has first class educational facilities. The school is thoroughly rooted in its local communities, with learners drawn from Craiglockhart, Dalry, Stenhouse and Balgreen Primary Schools. The school roll is currently around 850. The school offers a wide range of subjects and successfully presents students for SQA exams at all levels. There is a strong sense of pride in the school demonstrated by students, staff and parents.

We are currently recruiting a Science Technician to support our Science Teachers in the preparation of science experiments / projects across our year groups, in addition to ordering materials and maintaining the department budget. The candidate should have strong organisational skills and be proactive in working with the department to solve issues. The successful candidate will be able to use their skills, knowledge and experience to manage the storage, preparation and disposal of materials necessary for the delivery of experiments within the full range of teaching delivered by the faculty. The Science curricular area consists of a curricular leader, nine members of staff.
