As an ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN, GS-0856-11, you will perform the following duties:

1. Certifies assigned systems and sub-systems to ensure compliance with USAF and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) established standards and safety requirements. ATCALS cannot be used unless certified by the employee. These systems include (insert specific system(s) here). Installs, modifies, tests, repairs, overhauls, calibrates, maintains, evaluates, and certifies performance of complex integrated and interfacing electronic systems. Ensures systems are operating at peak efficiency with minimum interruptions by performing optimization, analysis, periodic testing, and corrective procedures. Makes overall evaluation and determination as to whether or not the facilities are operating within prescribed standards and tolerances. Required to assist in formalized inspections of facilities and equipment. Assists in flight check inspection and joint acceptance of newly installed equipment and/or major modifications to the system(s) as required. Participates in the installation, modification, and final testing of all newly installed ATCALS and weather equipment. Collaborates with FAA flight inspection personnel regarding in-flight and/or ground check tolerances and makes on-the-spot determinations as to what actions to take to return system(s) to operable condition. Provides advice to supervisor on significant issues and problems related to work accomplishment. Develops and recommends changes in procedures and technical instructions to ensure more efficient operations and/or reduction in maintenance time. Maintains inspection and certification records that are required by technical orders, applicable regulations, and operating instructions. Annotates modifications on historical reports and records. Documents maintenance and training using computerized and manual methods. Analyzes equipment historical documents and maintenance records for trends, prepares reports on trend analysis, and recommends corrective actions. Carries out supplementary assignments that improve the performance of the assigned systems.

2. Determines when equipment malfunctions warrant shutdown of various systems. Acts as expert technical consultant to determine whether systems are operationally acceptable and safe within the prescribed standards and tolerances for air traffic control and air navigation. Diagnoses cause of equipment degradation and malfunctions through application of electronic theory, system analysis, use of test equipment, schematics, wiring diagrams, and mathematical analysis. Troubleshoots equipment to localize, isolate, and accomplish necessary repairs. Determines when equipment malfunctions warrant shutdown of various systems. Depending on the system involved and the impact of its loss, immediately notifies controlling sources such as air traffic controllers, weather forecasters, and the military chain of command. Performs corrective maintenance by diagnosing, isolating, and repairing complex system(s)/subsystem(s) malfunctions to restore services with a minimum delay.

3. Provides technical guidance, training, and assistance to other technicians and conducts on-the-job (OJT) training to apprentices in all phases of work. Conducts and documents OJT in all phases of equipment maintenance. Certifies task qualifications and schedules task training. Performs quality control inspections, analysis of trend data, and recommends corrective actions. Coordinates with civil and military agencies on matters affecting equipment operating specifications, procurement of components and test equipment, standardizations, modification, policy, and procedures. Submits technical order improvements, modification proposals, and deficiency reports as needed.

4. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing. Follows Federal and state rules when storing, using, handling, labeling, and disposing of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with environmental standards. Performs clean-up duties such as cleaning equipment, sweeping, straightening, and lining up tools and other property in the assigned area.

5. Performs other duties as assigned.

Duties:

• Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations on multiple areas of the body, including, but not limited to thyroid, salivary glands, pancreas, liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, portal and hepatic veins, spleen, kidneys, bladder, scrotum, uterus/ovaries/adnexae (transabdominal and transvaginal), and soft tissues.
• Performs routine and complex vascular ultrasound examinations, including, but not limited to, upper and lower extremity (r/o DVT), carotid arteries, pseudoaneurysm evaluation, renal arteries, abdominal aorta, and inferior vena cava.
• Advises radiologists of significant abnormalities that would require their immediate attention and visualization while the patient is undergoing examination.
• Participates in the training of physicians so that they may acquire an understanding of the principles of ultrasound and how it relates to other diagnostic exams and the proper acquisition and ordering of ultrasound examinations.
• Coordinates and performs ultrasound orientation and competency of new sonography staff, which is a shared responsibility of current sonographers, to ensure new staff contributes to team production as quickly as possible. Sonographers shall advise radiology supervisor of the new staff's orientation and competency status. Instructs new sonography staff on imaging techniques, protocols, procedures, equipment use, etc.
• Protocols ultrasound orders for appropriateness. Makes recommendations to ordering provider for appropriate order based on clinical indication(s). Gathers related information via patient electronic medical record so that correlation of examinations to other studies may be made by the radiologist in diagnosis and recommendation of treatment.
• Develops and maintains patient preparation procedures and reminder letters so that outpatients and inpatient wards understand the proper preparations for ultrasound examinations to minimize delays of examinations.
• Maintains effective control of the ultrasound area by coordinating, planning, and help organizing the daily work potential to expedite workflow patterns within the departments. Uses medical center software to help aid in job functions.
• Maintains a quality assurance program of the ultrasound scanning equipment and monitor. Exercises extreme caution in the handling and safeguarding of all equipment. Perform operator preventive maintenance and care of equipment. Must recognize and report major equipment malfunctions within a timely manner to the radiology supervisor.
• Complete daily gel warmer temperature log. Take appropriate actions if temperature is out of normal range.

Major Duties: This position serves as the Lead Supply Technician (Medical) for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System. As a Lead Supply Technician, you will ensure supplies and materials are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics to provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets, and equipment. Major duties and responsibilities include:

• Distributes and balances workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization and assures timely accomplishment of assigned workload;
• Monitors status and progress of work and makes day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities;
• Maintains current knowledge and answers questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, or other guidelines as necessary and obtains needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems;
• Maintains stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services, including pulling stock inventory and material from inventory for delivery, replenishing stock inventory, interacting with customers to resolve issues, maintaining records on stock levels, etc.;

• Full working knowledge of the maintenance functions associated with roads, trails, and grounds, such as filling potholes in roads and parking lots, installing drainage structures on trails, and various landscaping tasks.
• Uses a variety of equipment such as pneumatic tampers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, push and riding mowers, 4-wheel drive trail vehicles, and other various hand and power tools.
• Operates gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles up to 26,000 pounds GVW while pulling trailer up to 10,000 pounds GVW.
• Performs maintenance, construction, alterations, and repairs on structures such as footbridges, boardwalks, staircases, picnic tables, benches, signs, parking lot wheel-stops, repairing and maintaining roads and parking lots using dump trucks, wheelbarrows, asphalt cold-patch, gravel, and sand.
• Maybe involved in constructing and maintaining trails using chainsaw and/or pole saw, heavy-duty push mowers, various rigging equipment, Pulaski, pick mattock, and shovel.
• May be involved in assisting in maintenance of way of work on the Cuyahoga Valley National Scenic Railroad which includes equipment operations, mowing along the railroad, clearing line of sights, tree trimming and removal. Incumbent doing maintenance way of work is subject to mandatory pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and random drug and alcohol testing per the regulations established by the Federal Railroad Authority.
