The successful candidate will assist in the provision of legal services and support to the Housing & Litigation Department. The role will ensure that work is done at the right level. The lawyers in the team are currently dealing with their own admin and low-level legal work. The role will drive efficiencies and enable the lawyers to respond to the large increase in disrepair claims and other cases in a more timely and efficient manner.
The Housing, Civil and Prosecutions department deals with Civil Litigation, Prosecutions and Licensing. The housing team deals with a wide range of housing law - from possession claim, homelessness Appeals at the County Court, Judicial Review, Anti-Social Behavior, general Injunctions proceedings and Disrepair claims.
The role is critical to ensure that the team has the capacity to manage the volume of legal work, especially current increase in disrepair (or more properly "housing conditions") claims.
The department has always been a busy department and our objective is to build a knowledge, proactive and interactive department which at its heart we build positive productive relationships with our clients and other legal colleagues.
To undertake the role of Legal Support Officer, providing paralegal support (including opening case file, court bundling, redaction, compliance with the relevant Pre-Action Protocol requirements, corresponding with client, opponent and other third party, assisting with Court proceedings and other case management functions, updating case schedules, spreadsheets periodically and assisting with general admin duty as and when required. You will be required to:
- Work effectively as part of a team and on own initiative.
- Manage relationships with Senior Management and officers in other Departments effectively and proactively.
- Assist driving the performance management framework.
- Assist on the implementation of best value, quality initiatives and improvements to client care.
- Collate and analyse data.
- Assist in driving forward IT and e-government objectives in Legal Services.
- Grasp and assimilate new information quickly.
- Work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Adopt a proactive approach to providing legal support.
- Relate the Council's key policy objectives to the provision of the legal service.
