MDI System Administrator, Massive Data Institute - McCourt School of Public Policy - Georgetown University

Job Overview
Georgetown University is seeking an MDI System Administrator to help continue to develop and support the Massive Data Institute (MDI) infrastructure. Their primary role setting up and maintaining big data infrastructure components on Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services, and Microsoft Azure; setting up and managing accounts; and helping MDI faculty run analyzes on these systems.
We will also create an on-campus GPU cluster that the Administrator will maintain.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Administering systems and applications, big data environment, and systems built on cloud infrastructure like Azure, AWS and Google
- Developing on-campus GPU compute facility
- Evaluating system problems of workflow, organization, and planning and develops appropriate corrective action
- Assist in the formulation of technical strategies and processes for administered systems
- Provide support to faculty working groups using the MDI infrastructure
- Write, interpret and analyze technical documentation related to system administration
Work Interactions
The MDI System Administrator supports use of MDI computing facilities for faculty across campus interested in using MDI’s computing infrastructure for interdisciplinary research.
Reporting to the MDI Director, they work with the new hire to maintain and extend the infrastructure, assuring they learn all of our existing protocols and work with faculty and graduate students to help them use the MDI computing environment. Currently, more than 30 faculty use the infrastructure.
As well, the Administrator supports the overall research mission of the university.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline – preference degree in an applicable system or an equivalent combination of education and technical certifications or training work experience with RedHat, Linux, Hadoop, and system administration
- At least 3 years of system administration experience
- Experience with Linux and Unix operating systems and provisioning applications - Big Data environments such as Hadoop and Accumulo and provisioning software – preference for VMWare hypervisor environment and provisioning software
- Experience with Cloud Providers – such as Google, Azure, and AWS
- Experience with GPU system administration
- Experience with networking
Preferred qualification
Multiple System certifications in provisioning technologies - such as Red Hat Certified, Linux+ or Security+

The salary range for this position is $54,616 - $90,000.
University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity and external market pay for comparable jobs.
