ABOUT THE POSITION

The Chief Counsel advises the heads of regional operating and staff divisions on Department programs administered in the region and is the Regional Director's chief legal advisor. Provides legal advice to the General Counsel on formulation, coordination, revision and execution of administrative policy and programs at the regional and national levels. Drafts, reviews, and clears important letters, policy statements, and similar communications by the Regional Director and other region officials on significant program and policy matters which require sensitivity to legal, public relations, or State relations implications.

Serves as a member of the top management team in the region and collaborates with the Regional Director, the General Counsel, and other high level OGC and region managers to establish and articulate legal positions, organizational priorities, and operating principles. Consults with U.S. Attorneys and provides professional leadership for legal staff's activities involving investigating, preparing, presenting, and conducting criminal and civil litigation growing out of Departmental activities in the region. As a HEALTH TECHNICIAN (Title 32), GS-0640-6/7/8, you will serve as the functional expert for issues pertaining to Aerospace Medicine and Force Health Management programs. You will manage essential programs, which impact individual medical readiness (IMR) and personnel fitness for continued worldwide deployability.

The incumbent reports to the Chief of the service. Participates actively in the management of the office of the Section Chief Nurse by performing a wide range of administrative, analytical, and budgeting functions using office automation systems, which generate output of reports, database management, word processing, administrative forms, and organizing logistics for meetings and programs.

The Community Living Center (CLC) Minimum Data Set (MDS) Admissions Coordinator (AC) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to assigned residents and oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the setting. The nurse will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation. The Urology Physician Assistant (PA) is responsible for the care and administrative needs of the Surgery Service patient in both the inpatient and outpatient setting of the urology section. The PA also functions as a coordinator between the attending physician and the other team members to include Nursing, Social Work, Rehabilitative Services and Dietician. The PA will also be directly responsible to the Urologists for all clinical and administrative duties.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Provide medical and surgical care for both inpatients and outpatients in the urology section. These patients often have concomitant medical problems and are multi-symptomatic. The PA shall coordinate patient care programs based upon the admitting chief complaint and shall perform the following duties:
  • Admission History and physicals, admission orders, aftercare plans and discharge summaries under direction of Urologist.

• Plans, develops, and maintains a network of relationships with community resources and other advocates for the homeless to effectively screen and identify Veteran members of the homeless population
• Interviews potential clients, interprets VHA guidelines and eligibility requirements and completes a psychosocial history and assessment
• Initiates eligibility determination, and forwards to VA eligibility staff members

• Develops a treatment plan. Using known available resources and the initial assessment, makes initial and continuing decisions regarding the services available and referrals

Major Duties:

• Create, develop, produce, direct and edit audio/visual productions.
• Uses knowledge of a wide variety of principles, practices, and techniques for communicating information through audiovisual means.
• Ability to utilize specialized equipment, develop props and scenes, and direct numerous staff to assist in all major production functions.
• Ability to take existing materials (ex. videotapes, audiotapes, film slides, and photos) to develop projects.

• Produces live broadcasts and serves as the lead point of contact.
• Ensures finished products are polished, grammatically correct, and meets the needs of the agency graphic standards, pain language, and 508 compliance.
• Utilizes a variety of digital cameras and lighting setups.
• Creates high-resolution, high-quality still digital images both in indoor and outdoor settings
• Responsible for labeling, categorizing, and archiving raw and finished audiovisual products.

Duties/Tasks:

• Performs a broad range of laboratory procedures including all testing and tasks of the medical laboratory technologist occupation. In addition, performs advanced and complex laboratory procedures; recognizes deviation from expected results; analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles.
• Evaluates and solves problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis taking into account physiologic processes and requirements.
• Maintains and documents the optimal functioning of laboratory equipment. Uses, calibrates, identifies malfunctions, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment. Diagnoses deviations in test performance due to instrument malfunction.
• Performs and documents quality control and assurance activities and corrective actions related to test performance using statistical principles and theories of performance improvement.
• Adheres to practices and regulations governing biosafety and biosecurity in the workplace.
• Identifies discrepancies, solves problems, and presents solutions.
• Answers inquiries regarding test results, methodology, test specificity, test sensitivity, and specific factors, which influence test results. Interprets results and suggests follow-up test selection or procedures.
• Evaluates and implements new techniques and procedures in the laboratory in terms of equipment, method comparison, and establishment of reference intervalsusing statistical methods and theoretical knowledge. Interprets findings and makes recommendations.
• Incorporates principles of educational methodology in the instruction and training of new employees and students and in the laboratory's in-service/continuing education program.
• Communicates effectively and courteously while working as a healthcare team member. Provides excellent service as defined by the customer (health care providers, patients, and others). Gives direction and guidance using underlying principles of laboratory testing.
• Organizes work and sets priorities to meet deadlines.

• The department supervisor outlines assignment parameters, deadlines, and priorities and provides advice on how to proceed when unusual problems are encountered.
• The technologist plans and carries out the procedures necessary to complete the work assignment and handles problems and corrects errors in accordance with established protocols or accepted laboratory practices.
• The supervisor reviews the work reports for the technical soundness and conformity to policy and established requirements.
