Major duties include:

• Program administration and clerical needs of the Nurse Education Program, i.e. Basic Life Support/Advanced Cardiac Life Support Program (BLS/ACLS), Nurse Call, Safe Patient Handling Program, and the nursing educational needs for the El Paso VA.
• Responsible for the coordination of administrative duties for the Nurse Education Program in an effort to guarantee the primary goal of optimally ensuring the certification of all the BLS for Healthcare Providers, BLS for Heart Saver and Advanced Cardiac Life Support is obtained.
• Coordinates course for Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification; scheduling the classes, managing instructor and participant schedules, obtaining required supplies, and distributing required materials for the courses.
• Orders and maintains an adequate supply of training resources (e.g. space, textbooks, equipment and supplies)
• Responsibility for managing the Nursing & Patient Care Services Website, uploading documents and updating material on the internet.
• Responsible for recording committee minutes, ordering office/medical supplies, placing work orders, and assisting with filing and record-keeping.
• Serves as the initial point of contact via phone, or face to face encounter, using accepted, first-rate customer service techniques.
• Responsible for fostering and maintaining good public relations which requires a considerable amount of tact, diplomacy and a genuine concern for BLS instructors, veterans and VA staff and their problems.
• Receives phone calls and determines the nature of their needs, questions or complaints and answers questions, provides information, if appropriate or refers them to the Nurse Educator, or re-directs the call as needed.

• Monitors resource levels of all office supplies and utilizes them prudently.

• Utilizes the TMS system as a Tracking System to ensure that all employees who are required to be BLS, Heart Saver, or ACLS certified are up to date.
• Assists with responsibility for serving on various committees and performing other administrative duties, such as recordkeeping, filing, tracking, data gathering, coordination, and documentation in support of and in an effort to extend the ability of the Nurse Educational Program.
• Will use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook to coordinate and schedule certification courses, other nurse education activities/programs, and meetings.

This position utilizes knowledge of policies and procedures for delivery orders and small purchases and knowledge of commercial supply sources and common business practices related to sales, prices, discounts, units of measurement, deliveries, stocks, and shipments. The Purchasing Agent maintains responsibility for work leading to the purchase of a wide variety of complex and highly specialized services, supplies, equipment, and systems that support the full range of programs and activities. Major duties and responsibilities include:

• Purchasing Support - Conducts purchasing under the micro purchase threshold; reviews and edits purchase requests; resolves issues to ensure requests and bills are processed accurately and in a timely manner; identifies needs or problems and determines corrective action; utilizes federal and agency acquisition regulations to identify possible sources and other pertinent information related to purchases; tracks obligations/commitments and monitors expenditures to support recurring budget forecasts and identify potential fraud, waste and abuse based on procurement history and purchase trends; and,
• Procurement Support - Procures supplies and services to meet the purchase, rental, or lease needs of the organization; develops unique selection criteria for each purchase; Prepare and issue contract modifications for changes in delivery schedule and sends formal correspondence to a variety of customers such as inventory management specialists, other service line contacts, and contracting officers as appropriate for the purposes of auditing documents, processing receiving reports, and payments.; conducting open market research and sole source small purchases for highly specialized medical items with critical product requirements; and,

Disruptive Behavior Committee (DBC)

• Responsible for coordinating/managing a multidisciplinary committee DBC, which may include Police, Patient Advocates, Patient Safety Personnel, Physicians, Pharmacists, etc.
• Coordinating/operationalizing DBC and ensuring compliance/collaboration with local facility and VA Central Office WVPP initiatives
• Conducting risk assessments for violence risk using structured professional judgment as an evidence-based best practice
• Using findings in collaboration with DBC members to assess/manage risk for violence and other safety-compromising behaviors
• Engaging best practices in threat management to prevent violence in the workplace in accordance with applicable State, Federal, local and Tribal laws, directives and policies
• Responsible for management of computer-based flagging systems for identifying potentially violent or dangerous veteran patients
• Working closely with executive leadership and service line leadership to ensure DBC is adequately staffed/resourced and that information pertaining to organizational safety is communicated effectively/efficiently

• Collaborating with PMDB program. As such possess or acquire and maintain PMDB facility trainer status
• Providing consultation and guidance to colleagues, role model effective social work practice skills, teach or provide orientation to less experienced social workers and develop innovations in practice interventions

• Administering information and analytical systems to evaluate and enhance the quality of service provided to Veterans, families, Caregivers and VA employees impacted by intimate partner violence
• Developing and implementing information systems to track service activities including visits, referrals, demographics, equipment utilization and Veteran satisfaction.
• Advising and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams throughout the medical center on workplace violence and risk management issues.
