This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-9. • Provides orientation and situational technical advice to physicians regarding VA policies and procedures.
• Assists medical center staff with medically related problems, including involuntary commitments, orders of protective custody, and management of unruly or severely disturbed patients.
• Performs for administrative matters as the MOD does for clinical matters, working as a team to carry out top management responsibilities during other than regular working hours.

Major Duties include:

The incumbent will have knowledge of the processes for Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) as required by this position. The incumbent will be required to maintain current knowledge of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) which document the processes and procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and preparation of RME appropriate to this position. The incumbent will be able to demonstrate their ability to utilize an acceptable proficiency in the use of RME appropriate to this position.
The employee is under the supervision of the Chief/Assistant Chief/Shift Supervisor, Sterile Processing Service (SPS).

• The supervisor and/or Service Chief will assign work with standing instructions on objectives, priorities, and deadlines, and provides guidance for unusually involved situations.
• The employee will work as team member with other Medical Supply Technicians of various experience to carry out the daily work utilizing the written standard operating procedures and/or manufactures written instructions in accordance with instructions, policies, previous training, or accepted/standard practices.

The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) interact with both internal and external customers providing exceptional customer service and ensuring overall customer satisfaction. Duties included, but not limited to:

• The Licensed Practical Nurse works under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) and reports to the primary care nurse manager. The Chief Nurse executes leadership that is characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility and accountability for population groups or integrated programs that cross service and/or discipline lines, influence organizational mission and health care. The Nurse IV is responsible for administrative functions of their assigned nursing units/programs. Functions as an administrator, educator, and consultant utilizing management theory in collaboration with VISN, Chief of Staff, Patient Care Services and other services. • Operates and unloads two 400-pound washer/extractors, one 200-pound washer extractor and two 85-pound washer extractor.
