The Integrated Procedures Unit (IPU) has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, organised and experienced Healthcare Assistant to join our core nursing team.

This role is for 37.5 hours per week, worked over 4 days. IPU is open 07:30-19:30 Monday to Friday, so this is a great opportunity to achieve an excellent work-life balance whilst joining a dynamic nurse-led service.
• Under the delegation of the Registered Nurse, undertake care delivery for patients across all the services on IPU including the procedure team, outpatient clinics, admissions, recovery bays and DOSA.
• Act as a clinical role model for new staff, reflecting the philosophy, beliefs and standards of the department.
• To effectively communicate with all members of the multidisciplinary team to promote a positive working partnership across all IPU services.
• To maintain clinical competence in a wide range of clinical skills including venepuncture, cannulation, ECG, line access/care and support of ascitic drain care.
• Rotate onto the day of surgery admissions unit.
• Rotate into the endoscopy unit to support care delivery with cystoscopy lists.
• Escalate concerns in a patient’s condition to senior members of the nursing team, medical staff.

The Integrated Procedures Unit (IPU) is a nurse-led, fast-paced and dynamic service. The unit consists of a procedures unit, interventional radiology unit, ultrasound room, surgical dressings clinic, outpatients clinic, day of surgery admissions unit, an operating theatre and second stage recovery bays.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Clinical:

1. Assists with the care of patients by:
• Under the delegation of the Registered Nurse undertake care delivery, record the patient interventions carried out utilising the patients nursing records. These records must be countersigned by the Registered Nurse who delegated the duties.
• Demonstrate respect for the individual patient, ensuring religious, cultural and social needs are considered at all times and acknowledge their individual rights.
• Where required, assist nursing staff if they are conducting procedures or investigations.
• Assisting patients in gaining access to, and in the use of, appropriate toilet facilities including catheter care, measuring and recording body waste/fluid balance accurately.
• Ensure patient’s nutritional needs are met by assisting in the preparation of patients prior to meals and beverages, giving help and assistance in feeding/drinking as necessary.
• Assist, direct and escort patients/visitors where and when appropriate.
• Ensuring a clean and safe environment for patients and escalating any concerns.
• Fluid balance monitoring.
• Handling patient’s personal possessions, ensuring money and valuables are kept securely.
• Specialing one-to-one as appropriate.
• Carrying out of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation as required

2. Complete all appropriate documentation relevant to care provided and update patient’s named nurse / shift coordinator where required.

3. Perform and record patient’s vital signs as directed, reporting findings to Registered Nurse on duty, or in their absence to Medical staff. Perform and record temperature, blood pressure, respiration and pulse, oxygen saturation, modified early warning scores, height & weight, urine testing (including Midstream Specimen, 24Hr urine collection, etc.) as per Trust policy, reporting results to a Registered Nurse.

4. Provide a clinical phlebotomy service demonstrating expertise according to Phlebotomy guidelines and ensure that the samples and specimens are forwarded to appropriate laboratory services. Perform venous cannulation. Carry out central venous catheter bloods and central line care as per trust policy. Have a basic understanding of normal and altered blood values and escalate results as appropriate.

5. Perform electrocardiograms (ECG) in line with Trust policy and reporting to the Registered Nurse and/or medical staff once completed.

6. Assist patients in their mobility requirements, help move and position appropriately to maximise their physical comfort utilising equipment as directed by the multi professional team. Assist in the care of patients’ pressure areas and prevention of pressure sores. Assist patients to improve and maximise their mobility, utilising equipment as directed by the multi professional team.

7. At the delegation of the Registered Nurse transfer the patient/client from one care area to another, i.e. ward environment to discharge lounge/ other ward. Chaperone the patient as required ensuring appropriate support.

8. Welcome and orientate patients, visitors and others to the ward/department and ensure that all communications result in effective customer care.

9. Communicate well within the team at all times. Demonstrate a pleasant and approachable manner and help create and promote a good team working relationship. Proactively help patients and carers to take an active role in care delivery.

10. Assist in the correct procedure of duties relating to last offices for deceased persons. Ensure that all religious and cultural wishes, obligations are adhered with, in line with Trust policies and procedures.



Clinical Support:

1. Assist the Registered Nurse in the process of undertaking clinical risk assessments e.g. recording height and weight, updating the nurse on any changes to a patient’s condition/circumstances. Responsibility for undertaking the risk assessments lies with the Registered Nurse.

2. Appropriately record and monitor dietary intake of patients, informing relevant staff of progress and/or any difficulties relating to dietary/fluid intake.

3. Actively support and assist in alleviating distress and anxiety of patients or carers, consistent with their personal beliefs and preferences.

4 Record patient’s items of property, ensuring valuables are correctly placed into safekeeping.

5. Prepare trolleys for specific clinical procedures in line with trust policy utilising aseptic non touch technique practices.

6. Recognise and report abusive behaviour to an appropriate member of staff, documenting the same.



Environment Support:

1. Be responsible for self and others through identifying risks and undertaking work activities in a safe manner.

2. Maintain cleanliness in the work environment, ensuring a clean and safe environment for patients, adhering to infection control policies and guidance in line with Trust health and safety policies.

3. Prepare and maintain environments for clinical procedures.

4. Contribute to the general tidiness and cleanliness of the clinical environment including the correct disposal of waste.

5. Assist with the checking of ward linen stock, where required. Contribute to the supply and maintenance of materials and equipment to ensure the efficient running of the clinical environment.

6. Assist with the checking and recording of deliveries to the clinical areas against original orders. Ensure stock rotation is undertaken to minimise the risk of equipment becoming out of date.

7. Assist in the transfer of materials and equipment as requested, including the maintenance of equipment as appropriate.

8. Report faults on the Unit as necessary.

9. Reports all accidents and complaints according to the agreed policy to shift coordinator or senior staff.

10. Contributes to the continuous improvement of services. May be required to demonstrate and assist more junior staff to gain clinical experience, skills and knowledge.

11. Undertake all training required to perform duties effectively to the requirements of the post, including but not limited to attending all required mandatory training courses.

12. Maintain own professional portfolio in accordance with personal development plans.

13. Demonstrates the agreed set of values and accountable for own attitude and behaviour.



Administration:

1. Assist in preparing patients notes, relevant charts, nursing documentation and identity bracelets prior to, and on admission.

2. Undertake clerical duties as directed by the Registered Nurse in relation to all verbal and written communications, ensuring messages and communications are passed to other team members, storage of patient information and retrieval of such information.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Clinical:
• To assess and triage patients appropriately, seeking intervention from other members of the multidisciplinary team as necessary.
• Assessment of the needs of the patient and family, ensuring provision of patient centred care which focuses on the promotion of health as well as illness.
• Ensure accurate documentation of patient care in accordance with hospital policies and standards.
• Maintain safe practice according to Hospital Policies and Standards.
• Ensure all prescribed drugs and treatments are given in accordance with Hospital Policy.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment for immuno-compromised patients.
• Ensure that blood products are administered correctly and in accordance with Hospital Procedure and Policy.
• Administer chemotherapy and bolus chemotherapy via established central lines and peripheral cannula in line with hospital policy and UKONS standards.
• Liaise with external multidisciplinary teams (eg: district nurses, Macmillan nursed, hospice staff)
• Provide a supportive service to patients and carers/families from diagnosis through all stages of the disease.
• Monitor results and bring to the notice of appropriate medical staff if abnormal to minimise risk to patient
• Arrange patients follow up appointment or admission dates for next course of treatments
• Work closely with ward manager and specialist nurses to facilitate seamless transition for patients from inpatient to outpatient status (and vice versa)
• Establish and maintain close collaboration with consultant, medical staff to facilitate the best possible patient care.



Managerial:
• To rotate through the units and coordinate day to day running of the haematology day unit and Young oncology day unit ensuring that standards of care are maintained.
• Liaise with Senior Sisters of the department (HTDU & outpatient clinics, apheresis, YOU day unit).
• Keep Senior Nurse Managers/Lead nurses aware of pertinent issues in the clinical area.
• Help foster a supportive working environment and maintenance of staff morale, promoting a culture where staff feel valued and are able to reach their potential.
• Act as preceptor/mentor to new ward staff and Pre and Post registered Nurse.
• Work with Senior sister to ensure clinical standards of care are achieved and participate in audit of clinical care.
• Be aware of responsibilities with regard to Health and Safety at Work Act. Maintain and develop an environment and culture that improves health, safety and security
• Supporting the Senior sister in initiating and implementing change, and in promoting an awareness of professional accountability.

The clinical fellowship in Neuro-Oncology is a 12-month post, which may be extended to 24 months. The role is to support clinical research and to provide specialist experience and training for the successful applicant. ORGANISATIONAL ARRANGEMENTS
This post is for 40 hours per week to support specialised neurooncology disease-related treatment and research across The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust. It will provide the appointee with an excellent opportunity to gain specialist training in advanced radiotherapy and in the clinical management of oncological patients.

Key interactions: The neuro cancer team consisting of patients, clinical oncology consultants, surgeons, pathologists, research nurses, therapists, registrars, radiologists, radiographers, and trial managers.

This position is suitable for an enthusiastic and research-motivated applicant with a medical degree, who is pursuing a career in Clinical Oncology and have an interest in gaining research and clinical trial experience to further pre-operative treatment experiences for brain cancer patients.

• Audit: Fellows play a key role in Clinical Audit as a member of The Christie Medical staff.
• Clinics: Research fellows in Clinical Oncology usually attend a number of patient clinics per week (seeing new referrals, follow-ups and patients on clinical trials) and are expected to undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of these patients. They will be involved in the clinical management of brain tumour cancer patients receiving radiotherapy.
• Clinical Governance: Fellows are expected to participate in all relevant aspects of clinical governance, including maintaining up-to-date protocols, guidelines and clinical audit, under the supervision of the Consultants in the team.
• Education: There are numerous courses organised annually by the School of Oncology at The Christie. Please refer to The School of Oncology website: http://www.christie.nhs.uk/school-ofoncology.aspx.
• Professional Development: Fellows should maintain a level of continuing professional development consistent with the recommendations of the Royal College of Physicians. Appropriate arrangements for study leave will be made in conjunction with colleagues. There is the potential to attend international meetings to present research work and fellows are expected to be involved in writing papers and reviews, and will also be required to undergo an annual appraisal.
• Protocol Development: Fellows may also assist with the revision and development of evidence based clinical trial protocols for patients.
• Research: There are excellent opportunities for research within the Department. Fellows will be expected to contribute to current research projects within the Department and/or set up new projects. The Manchester Cancer Research Centre has been established to bring together the expertise, ambition and resources of partner organisations, which include the University of Manchester, the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute, Cancer Research UK, in addition to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.
The post holder is committed to delivering at least four of the following:
• Actively participate in at least one national or international meeting (abstract presentation).
• Successfully publish at least two first-author peer-reviewed manuscripts.
• Aid income generation through assistance in development and writing of investigator-led studies/grant applications for research projects.

Role Planning
The post entails a maximum of five clinic sessions per week focused on primary brain tumours. The clinics will give wide exposure to the holistic treatment for patients with brain cancers. The clinic exposure will also include reviewing of patients participating in clinical trials and study-related procedures. The position will provide opportunities for clinical research within the neurooncology team with previous clinical fellows having developed clinical research projects, or contributed to translational research studies, etc. These opportunities have often led to presentations at local, national and international meetings and peer reviewed publications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

CLINICAL:

1. Assessment and prioritisation of the needs of the critically ill patient and their family, specifically tasks such as patients requiring respiratory support invasive and non–invasive, cardiovascular support, renal support, cardiac/invasive monitoring, inotropic support. The ensuring of provision of client centred care which focuses on the promotion of health as well as illness.

2. Ensure accurate documentation of patient care in accordance with hospital policies and standards. Develop and maintain communication with people about difficult matters and/or in difficult situations.

3. Assess educational and informational needs of patient and family, providing up to date information enabling them to participate in the planning of care.

4. Enhance care within the clinical area by using relevant research outcomes when planning and delivering nursing care.

3. Help foster a supportive working environment and maintenance of staff morale, promoting a culture in which staffs feel valued and able to reach their potential.

4. Act as a preceptor/mentor to new unit staff and Pre and Post Registered Nurses.

5. Work with unit Sister to ensure clinical standards of care are achieved and participate in audit of clinical care.

6. Be aware of responsibilities with regard to Health and Safety at Work Act. Maintain and develop an environment and culture that improves health, safety and security.

7. Supporting the unit manager in initiating and implementing change, and in promoting an awareness of professional accountability.

The role:** Our in-house Legal Team are looking for an experienced Solicitor to provide expert legal advice to the Bank's corporate & commercial banking teams, supporting in complex lending. To be able to provide the best support there is a requirement to work from our Manchester based office once per week.
Key Accountabilities: * To provide impartial, accessible and commercial legal advice in relation to facilities provided by the Bank to corporate, commercial and SME customers. * To provide advice in relation to lending products offered by the Bank in the corporate, commercial and SME sectors, including future product propositions. * To provide advice to the C&CB team, with the standard expected to be on a par with the leading law firms (including negotiation and agreement of facility and intercreditor documents, where appropriate). * To deputise for line manager, as and when required, to preserve the continuity of advice and support to the Bank's Senior Management and Executive community in relation to transactions, proposals and disputes. Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required: To apply, you will need to be a qualified solicitor with experience PQE gained from an in-house legal team or leading a commercial law firm. You will also require the following: * Specialist knowledge, capability and experience in lending to, and operating accounts for, corporates, businesses and charities, coupled with the ability to think broadly across all specialist areas across the Legal team. * A recognised specialist with the ability to advise and negotiate as appropriate. * Committed to the continuous improvement of systems and processes. * Ability to contribute constructively as a member of and, on occasions, as the leader of project teams relative to technical and, in certain cases, high profile and high value matters. * A well developed sense of strategic/commercial drivers to be applied to the majority of transactions/disputes encountered. * Articulate and persuasive communication skills; an ability to adapt communication style whilst retaining professionalism and effectiveness. * Ability to challenge without being perceived as a barrier to the business accomplishing its goals. * Highly motivated individual committed to the development of the role, the team, the department and the Bank.
