The Cambridge Breast Unit provides multidisciplinary and comprehensive care in the management of a full range of benign and malignant breast disease and is a tertiary referral centre for flap-based reconstructive procedures.

The Addenbrookes palliative care team is fully multi-professional, providing face to face cover seven days a week, 09:00-17:00 for patients attending and admitted to Addenbrooke’s hospital in Cambridge. The department comprises Consultants and Residents (both Trainees, IMT3s, and recently Foundation Trainees), band 6 Specialist Support Nurses, band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialists, Psychologists, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy, and excellent administrative support. In the last three years we have been working hard to increase the visibility and presence of our team across the hospital, with an 18% increase in our referrals, and we have grown links with other specialist departments whose patients commonly present with life-limiting conditions and specialist palliative care needs.

We now have established links with inpatient Oncology, Haematology (Myeloma), feeding issues MDT, Hepatology, Vascular Surgery, Neurology, Respiratory wards and Renal Medicine - and our team is recognised to be a helpful and responsive service. In the last year we received over 2,600 inpatient referrals with excellent feedback from patients, families and colleagues alike. The department also delivers outpatient and community services in the form of outpatient Enhanced Supportive Care (ESC) Clinics for Oncology and Hepatology patients, and the internationally renowned Breathlessness Intervention Service (BIS) that is mainly community-based.

Organisationally, the palliative care department sits within Division C, and is based specifically within the directorate of Integrated Medical Services. In addition to providing specialist palliative care support to adult patients, it also supports the broader end of life care agenda through strategic involvement and development of models of care and education. The CQC rated Addenbrookes hospital as “Outstanding” overall for end of life care, and “Outstanding” in the Caring and Well-Led domains in 2018-19.

The Consultant team has undergone a significant amount of change in the last 3 years, which has created opportunities for more engagement with teaching, with audit and quality improvement, and with research. The team members are already active in teaching and training and the successful candidate would be expected to share this enthusiasm too. We are also keen to develop technology-based innovations to enhance palliative care delivery in the hospital, as well as our team’s audit and research portfolios, and although these posts are primarily clinical we are hoping that the successful candidate will also have an interest in at least one of these areas in order to help our team further its strategic objectives.

We are looking for a Respiratory Apprentice to join our excellent team at CUH Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Ely.

The Respiratory Physiology team at the CDC work alongside the CUH Lung Function Department to provide a diagnostic service of respiratory function tests to both CUH outpatients and the local community via a Direct Access service for GPs.

CDCs have been developed across the country with the aim of providing diagnostic testing to the patients closer to home and to reduce waiting times for the tests required. Therefore, the development of the CDCs brings new infrastructure and equipment to keep up with the demand. Pathways for GP access respiratory tests have been developed and are being implemented with high uptake expected.

The respiratory service at the CDC offers a wide range of services including full pulmonary function tests (PFTS), reversibility, FeNO, spirometry, field walk tests and overnight oximetry.

The post holder will be working full time within the respiratory service for the full training period. The apprentice will receive a minimum of 20% off the job training which will allow completion of e-learning, assignment writing and evidence collection, the other 80% will be on the job education where they will be expected to support service delivery under supervision.

The main duties would include but not limited to:

- Perform and report a range of basic pulmonary function tests on a wide variety of patients.

- Perform calibration and quality control procedures on all laboratory equipment.

- To maintain accurate clinical records.

- To contribute to team and service development.

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow Higher (ST6+) in Paediatric Retrieval (PaNDR) at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This post is available to commence from 03 February 2025 until 01 February 2026.

This post has previously been occupied by a number of overseas Trainees who have found it beneficial to have exposure in Acute Paediatric Retrieval in a Tertiary Unit.

This post will also be appealing to senior Trainees including post CCT holders who are wishing to gain further Acute Paediatric or Paediatric Critical Care experience guided and supported by the national PICS-ATG transport Passport Curriculum. It would be particularly suited to those wishing to gain experience at middle grade level in a centre of excellence before seeking their first Consultant post.

Fellows and Trainees with at least two years of experience in Anaesthetics, Intensive Care Medicine, or trained in Emergency Medicine are also encouraged to apply.

The post holder will participate on the Middle Grade rota which is a full shift pattern and regulated by the European working time directive (EWTD).

Support for study and professional leaves are built in the job plan and participation in research and audit activities is strongly encouraged, although the training opportunities associated with this post will be equal to those for the Specialty Registrars in the department.

PaNDR serves the region of East of England (EoE). This Service is co-located with the existing Neonatal Service based at Addenbrookes Hospital and serves 15 large non-paediatric specialist district general hospitals in addition to Addenbrookes Hospital.

PaNDR has been covering the region of the East of England from 01 April 2022 in-line with the existing neonatal team 24/7. The department of Plastic Surgery provides for the management of all aspects of plastic surgery including an emergency workload. It provides specialist surgery including breast reconstruction, head and neck cancers, complex hand surgery and cleft lip and palate surgery.

We are looking for a trainee with an interest in pursuing a career in plastic surgery, and this post would be an ideal position for a trainee who has plastic surgery experience and wishes to further their experience.

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow (Higher ST6+/Senior) in Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine and Paediatric Retrieval (PaNDR), commencing on 05 February 2025 until 03 February 2026.

This post provides an exciting opportunity for senior doctors to work in a 50:50 split role with PaNDR (Paediatric and Neonatal Decision Support and Retrieval Service) and with a Helicopter Emergency Medicine Service, Magpas Air Ambulance.

The post incorporates induction, training and Consultant supervision necessary to undertake both roles. Successful candidate will be rotating between the posts in three-week cycles.

Candidates may apply as a stand-alone post, a post CCT fellowship, or as an OOPE, from an accredited HST training program.
