South London Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN) is looking for an enthusiastic Research Nurse to join the Agile Workforce team.

The Research Nurse will play a key role in ensuring that any research undertaken within the Care settings department safeguards the wellbeing of the patients and is conducted according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trial) Regulations 2004 and Amended Regulations 2006.

Working collaboratively with the clinical trials team and the wider multidisciplinary team in the management of research patients. They will also act as a patient advocate providing support and assistance as required and assist in the coordination and management of a portfolio of clinical research studies.

The post holder will be required to work flexibly across sites within the RDN: South London geography. The employing Trust will be Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

If applying as a registered nurse you must have appropriate UK professional registration.

The post holder will be responsible for delivering an agreed number of portfolios of clinical trials within the Secondary, Primary Care and Community settings across the South London region. They will work flexibly across the disciplines to ensure the success of the clinical research projects they are assigned to. ● Responsible for recruiting to, and following up, patients within studies. This includes both randomised clinical trials and other high quality clinical studies. The role will involve working closely with multidisciplinary clinical teams
● Act as a patient advocate enabling patients to make informed choices concerning their involvement in the clinical trials and ensuring advice and information is provided.
● Ensure there is sufficient skill mix of staff for patient safety during clinical trials and ensuring that they are carried out within the Trust and Centre's policies and clinical trial protocol.
● Assist in clinical trials including venepuncture of volunteers when necessary ensuring that they are carried out within the Trust’s policies, research governance, Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials Regulations) Regulations 2004 and Amended Regulations 2006 Incorporating International Conference on Harmonisation of Good Clinical Practice (ICH GCP) Data Protection Act and Human Tissue Act.
● Undertake clinical tasks such as phlebotomy, analysis of blood specimens, drug administration and clinical observation etc.
● Assist and advise staff, both registered and unregistered in the delivery of care to the volunteer.
● Ensure that written informed consent has always been obtained for any treatment provided for, or any sample or data taken from a Volunteer which will form part of a research study, in accordance with the Trust research governance arrangements and Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials Regulations) Regulations 2004 and Amended Regulations 2006. Incorporating International Conference on Harmonisation of Good Clinical Practice (ICH GCP)
● Have responsibility for the correct administration and custody of medicines according to Trust policy.
● Maintain all data and case report forms relating to clinical trials in accordance with the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials Regulations) Regulations 2004 and Amended Regulations 2006 Incorporating International Conference on Harmonisation of Good Clinical Practice (ICH GCP) and the Research Governance Framework.
● Report any deviation from normal practice to senior staff and implement agreed changes in care programme.
● Deal with concerns raised by volunteers and visitors in a proactive manner and take remedial action as necessary.
● Act as the volunteers’ advocate.

Administration

● Plan and organise workload in order to meet studies and volunteer needs.
● Ensure that nursing practices comply with Trust policies and procedures
● Communicate effectively at all times and maintain a harmonious working environment.
● Maintain a safe environment in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act.
● Assist managers and senior nurses/practitioners in managing incidents, accidents and complaints in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.

● Ensure equipment is in good working order, and report appropriately when defective
● Participate in audits, EG those undertaken by the Medicines and Health Care Regulatory Authority (MHRA) nursing audits and clinical benchmarking exercises and suggest any change to improve standards
● Ensure the economical use of resources
● Contribute to the overall RDN CRN or departmental budget by identifying areas where cost improvements can be made
● Ensure the safe custody of volunteer’s property in accordance with Trust policies.
● Actively participate in and support the development of the clinical research facility.
● Promote and participate in the implementation of policies within the Centre and to ensure compliance with Trust, Government and EU Directives.
● Maintain accurate documentation in clinical trial documents and patient notes.
● Ensure that clinical trials are effectively archived as required.
● Assist in the process of gaining local regulatory committee approval (ethics and R&D approval).

Short summary

The Quantitative Stem Cell Biology lab, headed by Dr Silvia Santos, is seeking a Senior Laboratory Research Scientist (SLRS). The successful candidate will investigate spatio-temporal control of cell division and cell cycle remodelling during cellular differentiation using 2D and 3D stem cell-based models of human gastrulation. The postholder will drive a research project and contribute to collaborative projects within the lab. The postholder will benefit from excellent mentorship and training.

The research group
The Quantitative Stem Cell Biology lab, headed by Dr Silvia Santos, was established in 2018 at the Francis Crick Institute. The lab’s primary focus is understanding cell decision-making. Current areas of research include understanding regulatory mechanism regulating cell fate specification, cell cycle remodeling during cellular differentiation and the interplay between metabolism, cell cycle and cell fate. There is a strong focus on single cell analysis and advanced live cell imaging. The lab uses a variety of model systems: mouse and human embryonic stem cells (ESC), 3D organoid models of mouse and human development and mouse embryos.
The team is multi-disciplinary, diverse and currently composed of three PhD students, two post-doctoral fellow and one principal laboratory research scientist. The Santos lab promotes independent and creative thinking and all members are committed to providing excellent training and mentorship.

Working with children within Key Stage 1 as a SEND TA, some of your duties on a day-to-day basis will include:

Actively participate in continuous professional development and take part in the Train the Trainer accreditation required by the Trust. Analysis and judgement Ensure attendees are appropriately booked; slots on courses are fully utilised, and attendance records/training outcomes are recorded accurately and timely on the Learning Management System (LMS), working closely with other Trainers, Application and Configuration teams and the Training Administrator(s) as required. Accurately update and maintain the LMS with course information. Assess user competence during training identifying and taking action where staff fail to achieve the required level. Actions include completing a report or recording a risk.Ensure both the Training Manager and appropriate Line Manager(s) are informed and record using agreed processes. Identify complex user queries and take appropriate action to resolve these in conjunction with colleagues/Super Users/Training Manager. Fully participate in peer observations, offering supportive and constructive feedback to Training colleagues. Responsible for ensuring formative and summative competence assessments are developed for each course. Assessments should be in line with adult learning styles for the relevant module to demonstrate achievement of course objectives and level 2 Kirkpatrick evaluation. Management Work in a complex and unstructured multi-disciplinary environment; be able to act with minimum guidelines. Be an expert in the application area. Line management responsibility for IT Trainers and Junior Trainers, ensuring the quality and adherence to the standards and agreed criteria. Work with Lead Analysts and other Principal Trainers to incorporate feedback from training sessions into future developments or make urgent changes to build as appropriate. Assist with training colleagues in the application area and deliver specialist training when required. Deliver specialist training and demonstrations to staff. Planning Project management experience or relevant experience is required to formulate the long term and complex training plans for the Trust and its partners. Responsible for the planning and scheduling of Trust staff into appropriate training sessions for their role. Ensure training provided meets the needs of the service and can be delivered to the timescales agreed. Provide support based on expert knowledge of EHR applications/modules and operational processes in order to deliver high quality, effective and timely training to multidisciplinary end users. Travel to required locations on Trust sites to deliver training and support to staff based at GSTT and all partner organisations. Setup IT training equipment at training venues (lifting and carrying is involved). Provide cover in the event of sickness and/or annual leave to ensure the continuity of service is maintained across all sites and cancellation of training sessions are kept to an absolute minimum. Respond effectively, and within the Trust agreed target timescales, to end user support queries logged on the IT Service Desk Policy/Service Level of Supervision Support end users to achieve required competency of the required application(s), using pre-determined course materials. Where appropriate make EHR and/or local managers aware of areas of concern. In conjunction with the Training Manager, ensure effective training timetables are implemented and user attendance is reported accurately, according to relevant processes. There will be a requirement to deliver training outside of normal working hours, evenings and weekends. Review and evaluate end user feedback, identifying constructive ideas for improving future delivery/content. Ensure changes continue to meet business needs. Produce and ensure course/lesson plans are relevant, up to date and in line with current practice and policies. Maintain accurate training records for audit purposes.
