DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Identify and undertake business development projects for the surgical service within the directorate working with other departments to ensure service delivery and improved productivity is supported by robust business cases and options appraisals. To support the clinical lead and the service manager in the management and development of a wide service portfolio and to deputise for the Service Manager and Directorate Operations & Performance Manager where necessary. To support the delivery of high quality, cost effective provision of these Services to the Trust, local Primary Care Trusts and the health community. To ensure that performance targets for these services are effectively monitored and achieved. This will include the identification of risks and actions required to mitigate such risks to ensure timely delivery of the objectives. Support services through the production of effective systems and procedures which enable the delivery of services and reporting of activity information by operational staff, linking, where necessary with other departments to co-ordinate arrangements and continuous improvements. Provide teams with information about performance and systems and ensure that such information is clearly understood to develop ownership and commitment to service delivery. Maintain adequate controls on expenditure through the implementation of good budgetary practice for designated staff through effective monitoring. General troubleshooting and dealing with departmental matters and correspondence not dealt with elsewhere. Delegated responsibility for managing budgets on behalf of the Service Manager where appropriate. Investigate complaints and clinical incidents relating to the service, ensuring that they are appropriately managed and necessary action taken, including changes in working practices implemented, where required. Attend appropriate meetings ensuring the views of the department are conveyed and actions are implemented. Work closely with other managers to introduce new processes and improvements within the department, division and across the Trust. Develops and advises on business cases to enable services to remain financially stable and responsive to the demands placed upon them. Performs detailed and complex option appraisals in order to inform decision making process, to include redesign of service, capital projects. Co-ordinating responses to consultation documents and special initiatives Support the development of strategic plans for the clinical development of departments Liaise with the Information and Data Quality Team regarding patient waiting times and investigate and resolve any potential waiting time breaches. We have an exciting opportunity for a Cancer Care Co-ordinator’s to join our clinical oncology Head & Neck team.

Full Time position – Head and Neck Team

The successful candidate will be passionate about making a difference to patients diagnosed with head and neck cancer. If successful you will be offered an opportunity to work within this oncology speciality across varied clinics and patients.

Excellent communication, organisational and prioritisation skills are essential.

The post holder will work alongside the Head and Neck Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) /Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) teams, their responsibilities will include
• Assisting the CNS /ACP team with the facilitation and implementation of Holistic Needs assessment within the disease group.
• Responsible for triaging phone calls and emails to the CNS /ACP service.
• Providing support with administrative services including referrals to Macmillan and District Nurses.
• Attend relevant clinics with the CNS/ACP team and interact with patient and relatives.
• Willing to undertake relevant training days within the disease group and cancer pathway.
• Willing to attend relevant MDT sessions if needed.
• Signposting patients to relevant services

You will be part of a core team of CNS and ACPs within a wider team of consultants, registrars, speech and language therapists, dieticians, and research staff.

The Head and Neck team provides a comprehensive service to patients at all stages of their cancer journey. These patients may be receiving treatment with curative or palliative intent as well as best supportive care.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide administrative support to the CNS/ACPs.
• Maintain the patient Database and ensure all of the information is up to date and accurate
• Order supplies and patient information as requested by the CNS/ACPs. Assist the CNS/ACPs with the management of the patient pathway ie ensuring that appointments have been requested and booked.
• Organise and prioritise the designated workload in order to meet the needs of the service. Assist the CNS/ACPs with handover of patient care to other teams in order to facilitate safe and effective transition of care. Communicate effectively with a range of patients and health and social disciplines. This may include a variety of methods, such as electronic or in person.
• Triage telephone and email enquiries, using criteria agreed with the core team.
• Ensure patients/carers know how to contact the service when their condition / needs have changed, including out of hours.
• Provide general information and support about cancer services, using Trust approved literature. Sign-post patients and relatives/carers to appropriate services such as Maggie’s and Macmillan in order for them to speak to professionals who are able to discuss issues knowledgeably and impartially.
• Demonstrate the ability to recognise situations that require rapid response from a health care professional (CNS/ACPs or doctor) and respond appropriately. Evaluate outcomes of care delivery with the registered practitioner.
• Act as an advocate and facilitator for patients; linking with CNS/ACPs to resolve any issues.
• Ensure accurate documentation of patient care in accordance with hospital policies and standards.
• · Assist the CNS/ACPs with the roll out of Holistic Needs Assessment and electronic patient outcomes (eproms) within the disease group



Professional/Clinical Leadership:
• To act as a role model to colleagues, and be an effective resource to patients, carers and colleagues.
