What is the job role?As a Principal Building Control Officer, you will oversee the delivery of the building control service and ensure the quality and performance of the team.
You will represent the service at senior management meetings, strategic partnerships, and external forums. You will also lead on the development and review of building control policies and procedures and provide expert advice and support to the council and other departments on building control matters.
You will be responsible for leading and managing a team of Building Control Officers and Technical Support Officers, ensuring that they provide a customer focused and efficient service to a range of clients.
You will be involved in complex and high-profile projects, liaising with developers, architects, engineers, contractors and other stakeholders to ensure that building work meets the required standards and safety measures.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to the development and improvement of the Building Control service, implementing best practices and innovative solutions.
You will be acting as the principal technical advisor and expert on building control matters and be responsible for technical and legal compliance with the Building Acts, Building Regulations and Safety at Sports Grounds legislation.
Who are we looking for?To be successful in this role, you will need to have a relevant degree or equivalent qualification in building control or a related field and be a full member of a recognised professional body such as RICS, CABE, CIOB or ABE.
In addition, you must already be validated to or working towards validation as a Building Safety Regulator Class 3 Specialist Building Inspector.
You must have substantial experience working in building control, including dealing with complex and high-risk projects and supervising and mentoring staff.
You will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure and prioritise your workload. You will also need to have a valid driving licence and access to a vehicle, as you will be required to travel to various sites across the city.
