The Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice (CRPP) at the Office of Education Research (OER) in the National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore, encompass 5 programme research areas in:
- Cognitive, Emotional and Social Learning (CESD)
- Lifelong Learning, Cognition and Wellbeing (LLCW)
- Learning Sciences & Innovation (LS&I)
- Schools, Leadership and System Studies (SLSS)
- Teacher Professionalism and Learning (TPAL)
Since 2002, CRPP has led efforts to spearhead programmes grounded in the principles of advancing research, development and innovation at NIE. CRPP is committed to producing high-quality education research with impact on policy and practice.
CRPP’s research is guided by the Research and Development Framework – a policy-driven, evidence-based framework that guides academic and research staff to improve the quality of teaching and learning in Singapore schools and to build on NIE's standing as a leading international research institution.
CRPP therefore aims to conduct rigorous, relevant multidisciplinary research and development that inform policy, pedagogy and practice in Singapore and internationally. With a strong focus on advancing knowledge in the 5 programmes above, CRPP provides researchers with valuable research opportunities and platforms to enhance their global academic profile.
Position Summary
CRPP is looking for Education Research Scientist / Senior Education Research Scientist to join their research efforts in the priority area of Teacher Professionalism and Learning (TPAL).
TPAL researches the various acts of teaching and the interrelationships that occur within, between and beyond the contexts and situations of teacher education and learning.
We are interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Teachers’ professionalism and learning
- Pedagogy and pedagogical adaptability
- Different professional development models and designs
- Teacher leadership in professional development and learning
- Other related areas
Candidates with appropriate qualifications and relevant research experience are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will work with a team of driven researchers with highly cited publications.
In addition, CRPP provides Senior Education Research Scientist with valuable research opportunities and the platform to enhance their global academic profile. The Office is dedicated to their interests by providing grant opportunities such as the Education Research Funding Programme (ERFP), a pool of research funds administered by the Office and supported by the Ministry of Education (MOE), Singapore.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (i.e. teachers’ professionalism and learning, pedagogy and pedagogical adaptability, teacher leadership, and related areas);
- Preferably with 5 years postdoctoral experience or equivalent;
- Experience in cutting edge teacher, teaching and learning research and addressing challenges in education;
- Demonstrable track record in the following areas:
Research leadership in a research group or center
High quality publications (i.e. quality and impact of academic publisher, citations and ranking of journal publications etc.)
Writing of or contribution towards research proposals which are submitted for peer-reviewed funding processes
Independence in research (i.e. senior authorship/sole authorship of high-quality publications and invited presentations at conferences);
- Attainment of funding through a competitive peer-reviewed process;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and
- Experience working with Government stakeholders
- Minimum 5 years postdoctoral experience;
- Demonstrable track record in the following areas:
Research leadership in a research centre or in a large competitive, peer-reviewed research grant
Supervision of undergraduate and/or graduate students
- Experience engaging with diverse stakeholders including Government stakeholders, Community Organizations and the Public
Responsibilities
- Take a leading role in the further development of research programmes and in seeking and pursuing appropriate external funding;
- Apply for and conduct quality research and work collaboratively to charge new directions for teacher, teaching, and learning research;
- Disseminate the outcomes of the research including in peer-reviewed academic publications of international standing;
- Participate fully in the wider research and service activities to OER/NIE;
- Take responsibility for, manage and conduct administrative and management tasks associated with your programme of research
- Mentor junior faculty and research staff in CRPP;
- Supervise students by research and/or dissertation (i.e. supervise M.A. / M.Sc. students and / or co-supervise Ed.D. students)
