The role of the paediatric research nurse is to: Provide specialist research and clinical care to research participants. Assist in the management, coordination and implementation of research programmes in accordance with the International Conference on Harmonisation/ Good Clinical Practice (ICH/GCP) and the UK Policy Framework in Health and Social Care Provide clinical supervision to other staff and students. There is no set shift rotation but the majority of the time you will work Monday to Friday 8-4 pm; however we expect that you will also work a variety of flexible hours including long days, nights, and weekends on an ad-hoc basis as per your research study requirements. The post holder will be a car driver, with a full driving license and must be willing to travel to various locations in and around Hampshire and Dorset. The CRF has adult and paediatric ward beds plus consulting rooms, a physiology lab, a temperature-humidity controlled room and a bronchoscopy suite. The majority of research patients come from the Wessex region however the CRF is a national dosing centre for advanced therapy medication so patients come from all over the country for this treatment. University College London Hospitals (UCLH) undertakes world-class research across many specialities including early phase, cancer, haematology, and neurology. As a senior research pharmacy technician (or Science Manufacturing Technician) you will be part of the pharmacy clinical trials team facilitating this research. Your key role is to set up new studies, maintain current and historical studies, and oversee the storage and receipt of clinical trials medicines. You will also be an important part of the team providing a high-quality dispensary service to our patients.


The postholder will acquire a broad overview of injectable research medicines, research delivery, dispensary management, and research governance, therefore would suit anyone with an interest in these areas. Prior experience of clinical trials or hospital pharmacy is desirable but not required.

Ideally you will be a GPhC registered pharmacy technician with 1-2 years’ experience although all training and support will be provided by our supportive team including our education & training lead. Those wishing to enrol on formal training courses can do so via external (on application) and in-house learning & development programmes.

Your new role
You will be part of a dynamic team of scientists, working collaboratively on a variety of R&D projects to further develop the company's technology, reporting into the senior leadership of the company.As part of the preclinical team, this role will work across in-vitro and in-vivo development, overseeing both in-house and outsourced work, eg at CRO or industry partners.

• Lead a team of biologists, providing scientific leadership and technical expertise across various assay systems from early discovery work through to translational
• Identify key areas for internal growth and external partnership and lead initiatives on this, eg hiring new staff
• Collaborate with internal teams, eg on process development and optimisation
• Manage external work done by CROs or collaborators/partners in academia or industry, including managing timelines and milestones

What you'll need to succeed

• An advanced degree (PhD preferred) or equivalent experience in biology / immunology / biochemistry or a similar field
• Strong track record of developing and conducting both in-vitro and in-vivo projects for target ID and validation, preferably within the large molecule / biologics space (eg for antibody therapeutics)
• Significant experience with a variety of biochemical techniques and assays, ideally within a drug discovery environment, eg flow cytometry, immunoassays, cell based assays, microscopy, IHC, etc
• A deep knowledge of protein-based therapeutics, with experience of working on these across the entire discovery and early development/preclinical lifecycle a distinct advantage
• Experience working with CROs and/or managing external collaborations with partners in academia or industry
